The Sims 4 got a free update in May 2023 and we need to talk about it... Caliente refresh!

I'll be in 80's xD Just turned 30 LMAO. Honestly whenever I start a new save, I delete the townies I hate and aways edit the ones I want to keep with CC, then I let MCC do it's job. I can't stand Neigbourhood stories. Even if I turned off have babies/adopt children/pets for everyone, I come back in a few hours and legit every single household has about 6 pets or children.

I really like the new Nina, and Dina is good but bad makeup. Katrina is meh, and Don is just bad. I do, however, really like their updated traits and aspirations!! SUPER annoying they didn't add romance bars and sentiments between them though. I genuinely thought we'd get like neighborhoods at a time with each update. Going family by family is going to take forever.

1:33 Actually, they are twins. This was established in TS2. Now, they might not be identical twins, but they definitely are twins. 4:18 When I make TS2 sims in TS4 I divide the skins into four sections and pick any skin tone that fits into the fourth their TS2 skin tone was from. This allows me to stay more or less true to their TS2 skin tone while still allowing much more variety at the same time.

@@KingBookWorm I didn’t do anything special. I just counted how many were in each section of the skin tones (45 each in warm, neutral, and cool, if you’re wondering) and divided by 4 (which is 11 with one remainder, so one in each section is kind of whichever between two sections). That gives me 33 skin tones to work with for each of the TS2 skin tones. When I am working on making a TS2 sim I count to make sure I am in the right range and then find a skin tone I think looks best for them in that range.

I don’t get why EA are refreshing townies. Were simmers asking for this? Instead of these ugly townie refreshes, why don’t they fix routing? I’m referring to the Welcome Wagon, especially the Caliente/ Lothario household. Any time I’ve placed one of my sims and a house in Oasis Springs, across the street from the Caliente/Lothario, they come with their fruitcake from the other side of my sim’s house. Why don’t they come from the direction where their house is located?!!

The new Calientes weren't hitting for me. So I went a head and revamped both the sisters completely, I changed Don's eyes, and deleted Katrina. Which took me an 1 and half because I'm picky. Not to mention I went into the actual world and made some lore had Don romantically involved with both sisters and in his own house. Not to mention I cheated their skills, and found all of them jobs that fit their personalities. You're telling me it took the Sims team an entire year to just change them in CAS? That's straight up ridiculous.

I saw somehwere that the Caliente girls are meant to be middle eastern and latina, which is the reason why people were saying they're "too white", but without that context I understand the reaction haha. But they just basically changed them up to look more like their intended ethnicities, and Don is Italian so I guess that I see where they were going with it? Like I understand it about 10%

Hot tip (jaja) for non spanish speakers, when you're describing the weather, you don't say caliente, you say caluroso. caliente is something hot that you can touch (a stove, a fire, a heater...) while caluroso is something you can't (like the weather)

I don't like don as a person but his old look was attractive. Also i'd always see him at the gym and i loved his workout outfit before. As for the girl some outfits improved but for katrina i'm gonna put her hair back to the original red. Not gonna lie guys starting new playthroughs gets exhausting cause i gotta fix so many lots. Fix npcs, add townies, and a dozen other things. Does anyone else hate that when you start a new game you have to make a family? You can start with a in game family or edit town which i hate

I think the faces look good. I appreciate that the Sims team tried to show their Middle Eastern heritage with their facial structures and skintone. They don't look like their Sims 2 designs but CAS was not nearly as advanced and many sims at that time shared the exact same fave template, so designing their faces uniquely in TS4 is good. Don is very tragic looking, though. He looks great if you tweak his eyes. But their outfits are all so ugly, and overall they look really bad especially from a distance when all you can see is their clothes.

Dina and Nina ARE twins. Look through the P'view photos and their memories, and you will see shots of them growing up and aging up at the same time. Plus, when the infant update was released, they were represented as twins there.

I think the skin issue is due to the fact that it's pretty obvious that the Sims 4 developers assumed that the Caliente sisters are Hispanic based on their names, but looking into their history and family in The Sims 2, like many long-time players would have, you'd pretty quickly realize that they're actually of Mediterranean descent.

The skin tones of the Calientes and Don Lothario isn't all that much darker now, but they have switched to a colder tone, which makes absolutely no sense if they are supposed to be Hispanic or Middle Eastern. People from those parts of the world typically have warmer olive skin tones.

The Calientes are (in TS2 lore) of Mediterranean and Arab descent (because Katrina is NOT their mother). I think that’s why people say they look too white. They are better now post-refresh but still not great.

I never played the older Sims games, but from my understanding, the Caliente's were brown skinned and Hispanic, thus the name. The fact that they are now very much white in the Sims 4 is the issue. I'm gonna say the Caliente's revamp isn't that bad. Their skin and Nina's hair aren't sitting with me, but personally, it's a bit better. On the other side, players had more than enough time to replace the Calientes with more authentic/other copies, including me and probably many more, who made them entirely from scratch and without Katrina. The Sims 4 team is a "bit" late for this.

So, Don has been a bit of a staple for many players to donate good genes to make reliably cute babies. Now I wonder if he'll still be holding that position. Traits were changed on all of them too, and that usually changes their autonomous personality. That doesn't matter to a majority of people, but I'm big on autonomy. I guess it's time for a new save wooing Don to see.. lol

Nina and Dina are twins 💖but well, they didn't consider that while changing their apperance! ☺ I like how the racial aspect of our sims is getting more and more advanced cas wise, as someone said in one of the comments: they don't look like white people cosplaying Calientes hah 😅
