Even though this was the anthem during a dark and ugly time in South Africa’s history, it’s still a beautiful anthem, and maybe one of my favorites out of them all.

In thy power, Almighty, trusting Did our fathers build of old: Strength then o lord, their children To defend to love to hold That the heritage they gave us for our children yet may be Bondsmen only to the highest And before the whole world free As our fathers trusted humbly Teach us, Lord, to trust thee still: Guard our land and guide our people In Thy way to do Thy will

Its true, the then prime minister, John Vorster tried to stay away as far as possible because he knew this will nit be good for our Calvanistic family values. Saying with the first broadcast, "This is the beginning of the end of our people" And he was proofed correct over years.

While the flag and anthem both predate apartheid, you gotta remember in the eyes of the majority it's still the same flag their oppressors waved and the same anthem they sang. They aren't being logical but rather emotional... Same way white South Africans call Nkosi Sikeleli Afrika a terrorist song when in fact it was made as a church hymn LONG before the ANC even existed and adopted it.
