Our national anthem is more like a prayer for Africa and SA in general, that's why most of time our players close their eyes when singing it.🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦

Trust me as a South African when you sing this song you can feel the togetherness in the room, the atmosphere is electric and it was honestly my favourite thing about Monday assembly in school. I love the song and I'm so glad out school took the time to teach us how to sing it and what the words meant. I still remember learning it in grade 4 and the teacher gave us a test on the meaning and just the sense of pride learning about our great nation.

The national anthem of South Africa is sometimes known as “Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika,” which means “God Bless Africa.” However, this isn’t an official name for the song. Despite just being adopted in 1997, the song’s history dates back to the 19th century. The anthem is a hybrid song that contains lyrics from the 19th century hymn, “Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika” that was written by Enoch Sontonga in 1897. This song was used by the anti-apartheid movement. The second part of the song was adopted from "Die Stem van Suid-Africa" (The Call of South Africa) that was used as the national anthem from the 1950s to the 1990s. The lyrics of the song are unique in that they feature five of South Africa’s eleven (now twelve) official language, including Xhosa, Zulu, Sesotho, Afrikaans and English. The national anthem has a strong religious theme, calling for God to protect the nation. It also exhibits patriotism by calling for all citizens to come together and stand united to fight for freedom. The national anthem has come under fire by some people because of the Afrikaans verse, which was originally used during the apartheid era. Other citizens defend the verse because Nelson Mandela wanted to retain the verse for the post-apartheid future. South African National Anthem [English Lyrics] •[Translated from Xhosa to English] -Lord bless Africa -May her glory be lifted high •[Translated from Zulu to English] -Hear our prayers -Lord bless us, your children •[Translated from Sesotho to English] -Lord we ask You to protect our nation -Intervene and end all conflicts, -Protect us, protect our nation, -Protect South Africa, South Africa •[Translated from Afrikaans to English] -From the blue of our skies, -From the depths of our seas, -Over our everlasting mountains, -Where the echoing crags resound •[This verse stays in English] -Sounds the call to come together, -And united we shall stand, -Let us live and strive for freedom, -In South Africa our land

When you read the translated lyrics for the Zulu, Xhosa, and Sotho sections, the anthem is a straight-up prayer or hymn. The Afrikaans section is just poetic genius (which also has a deeply spiritual vibe about it). An astonishing number of big and buff rugby players cry for this anthem, especially when they make their debut for the Springboks. It is not one of those anthems that you march into war with.

The anthem is a prayer and it's Zulu/Xhosa in the beginning then Sotho/Tswana followed by Afrikaans then lastly English out of the 11 official languages that South Africa has.

They used rugby because the stadiums are always usually sold out,but the atmosphere in the stadium during anthem time is something else you will only really feel it when you are in the stadium. Trevors skit was made years ago at that point of time most people couldn't speak African languages now days most people do especially the younger generation

OK. Here we go. Our anthem has the same tune as( oh boy I hesitate cause once I tell you, you won't be able to unhear it and I don't want to ruin it for anyone) as incy wincy spider. Don't know if that's how it's spelt. It's also the best anthem on earth and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise, except if they are talking about their countries anthem. That's a pass. Everyone is supposed to think their anthem is the best

Waooo!!!....Congratulations my new friends Jody and Nick!! ...I want invite you to give us your opinion, like music lovers, reacting to who is considered the best singer of the world...His name is Dimash Kudaibergen, a young singer who handle 7 octaves and 3 semitones of vocal range (An alien)...He has been singing since he was 5 years (he is 28 now) and he can sing in more than 15 languages...But if you decide to react to Dimash for the first time, please don't do it with his most recent songs ... I recommend that you go to the year 2017 and react to the song that made him a global idol ... I mean the performance he did of the famous French song called "SOS D'un Terrien en Détresse", when he participated in the famous Chinese reality show The Singer in that year 2017 ... With that performance Dimash earned the reputation of being the best singer on the planet, so I recommend you start with that one...You have to be prepared because you are likely to receive a flood of views, comments and new subscribers....And I have to give you a warning: Never react to The World Best videos, because they deceived him and treated him very badly.!...I hope to see you first reaction soon and if you don't mind, I'd like you to mention me as the person who recommended reacting to Dimash....Here you have the best high quality video of Dimash performing S.O.S. I'm so sad, cause "comedians" like Trevor, can just go about and make fun about trends and traditions, without repremanding. Now, I'm not the funny police. And I don't say that anyone is picking on any race, color or creed. So in that same thought of mind, saying that Pretroria is racists, because they sing the portion of the anthem, aka the "Stem", louder than the rest, its dumb and reckless. The reason why you notice a difference in delivery is because, we are trained professionals. "Nkosi Sikekel iAfrika", is a prayer, "Die Stem" is an anthem. Make sense? Sorry English is not my first langue, maybe I've misinterpreted myself. Happy reviews.
