they gave an update. Mabrey seems to be enjoying Madison a lot. so Longo leaving might not mean that he'll leave. you'll hear no guarantee from anyone about Mabrey though

Mabry should be starting next year,. sure we haven't seen it, but if Luke is a good talent evaluator and is able to coach this kid up, then things should be ok.

Could he convince McIntosh to bring the band back together? The way he talked about being multiple sounds like ND type offense. Then when he brought up in his own possibilities of a separate qb coach. It would cost them butDenbrock and Gino comes.

Pro style doesn't mean under center. It’s using multiple concepts. The “under center” & return to old school crowd doesn't know football. Whether you are under center or not doesn't matter. It's your run block concepts, development of OL & overall commitment to the run game that makes the difference. It's reflexive to want to go backwards because we haven’t had success- yet, but we didn't bring in Fickell to keep hitting the same ceiling as a program. I would love to see the Go Go offense. As a former college LB, I wouldn't look forward to preparing for it. It's far from a gimmick. It's power, triple option, and rpo wrapped into one with west coast & verticle passing concepts. I would call it very multiple & creative. It also plays into historical recruiting strengths at RB b/c it runs two back sets.

Is Wisconsin going to get any difference makers from the portal? The few that might be out there especially at QB are going to sell there services to the highest bidder and that won't be Wisconsin. Most of the guys in the portal are guys that were not playing elsewhere looking for another opportunity or don't fit the scheme being run at the current program. Just look at most of the guys leaving Wisconsin via the portal well it's the same at other schools. At best your just plugging in guys with one year of eligibility for a year to try to plug a weakness and hoping they mesh with the team and what your trying to do. It can't be easy for a coach to put together a team these days. That said my big concern with the state of the program at this point in time is what I have seen from the head coach. In two years he has already fired both the offensive line coach and coordinator. I am not sold on the defensive scheme they are playing. I prefer an aggressive attacking defense. They just don't create negative plays on defense. The coaching staff seems slow to make adjustments during the game for example in the Iowa game they just ran the ball down our throat the entire game and Wisconsin didn't make any adjustments to bring more guys into the box and sell out to at least stop the run. Dumping the Air Raid and now on defense its lets get bigger guys but keep the same scheme. I thought before they were trying to get faster guys on defense. It's like being on a merry go round. They just seem to be constantly changing and it makes you wonder does Fickell have a clue of what he is doing? This is big time football and we should not have a coach learning on the job. Fickell is in charge so the buck stops with him especially given the amount of money we are paying him. I tell you one thing it will be a total disaster if our starting QB next year is the one that finished this year.

Here's what it boils down to. Longo said the right thing. If the defense stacks the line...pass. If the defense plays to stop the pass...run. The problem is we need an OC with a great playbook and the ABILITY to adapt. Longo's philosophy was good, but he sucked at implementing it. Whoever is next, must be able scheme, adapt, and teach our players. Is there even anyone available with those qualities?

If Wisconsin trots out Tyler Van Dyke as their starting QB next fall, prepare for the worst. Pretty sure a number of NFL teams have a 'do not draft' injury flag on that player already due to the number and type of injuries he's had to deal with. They have to find another player in the portal or be prepared to go with one of the young guys.

If fans could just shut up and stop calling for Fickell to be fired, we could put a freshman on the field and let him learn. Who is even available in the portal that didn't somewhat suck where they were at?

If they aren't doing things because of what the fans are doing (or would do), then they've already lost. Fickell didn't keep Mabrey Mettauer on the bench this year for fear of being fired from bad results. He's got at least two more years unless McIntosh is fired first (seems very unlikely), or maybe if 2025 is a 0-12 season. All the noise from fans calling for him to be fired means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things.
