Have the exact same compressor I've had for years and had been sitting for a long, long time, so I decided to try to get it running again. The motor was shot on mine and you are right almost impossible to find parts, so got a motor and pump together on ebay for a bostitch mini air compressor not exactly the same, had to do a few modifications to fit it into place, but got it working. Nice video!

Hey GS, glad the video helped. Sounds like your compressor issues was a bear. Just be sure to get those gaskets in the correct order an tighten everything down good. Mine is a better compressor now and I expect to get many more years of use out of it. I hope!

Thank you for the very interesting video. I have a compressor with the same problem. It is a 150psi compressor and will only pump up to 75 lbs. It seems that the parts are so expensive that I may just buy another used compressor. Thanks again.

Thanks for posting this, I watched the whole thing and gained some insight...Not sure if it's worth spending that kind of money on parts when it's bound to break again in short order. Mine has seen no hard use and it sounds like something big broke loose in there and only pumps to 40PSI.... Thanks again for the video.

Unbelievable ! ? I have the same compressor in a different size tank and I had the same problems. I bought it in 2005 an one year to the day it sounded like it was destroying itself and I stopped it, the fly wheel bearing came off and caused the piston arm to crack. A metal holding the motor brace had broken so the motor to vibrated so much as to cause the bearing out of its conic housing.. I replaced the motor and the flywheel next I had the broken piece welded and the compressor worked. .

Great video, well explained. It's such a shame you have to buy the entire piston and cylinder though. But, you said the thing was free initially so you are at least $100 ahead after your repairs. Good going! And, learned something in the process which is always valuable too. I'm wondering if that mount/bracket that failed caused the failure of the rest of it? From excessive vibration. I am considering a free Campbell Hausfeld compressor (5 h.p., 26 gallon) offered on Craigslist that apparently has the same problem. Bad piston ring. I was thinking perhaps $20 for a ring and some gaskets but maybe that project would cost more. So, I'm very thankful for the heads up that a simple piston ring is not available. Did you ever get the mangled copper tube optimal? Replace it? Thanks again. Best to you! Happy fixing!

Hi Mark, I am still using the repaired Campbell Hausfeld compressor. I fashioned a new copper tube, but it could use some more work. Sadly these compressors are becoming dinosaurs if not already. Some of the replacement parts are obsolete now and unable to find. If you get a free compressor, keep in mind that you may not be able to find the parts to get it working. Though, I hope you have luck with your find and are able to repair it. Thanks for the Great Comment!

Easy find at jacks small engines . Buy a whole new piston and cylinder for 30 bucks . That’s what I did today .

Steve, I need help I am replacing the gaskets etc on my ch compressor it's like yours except 25 gal and it's upright and the exploded diagram from ch doesn't jive with one of the gasketsi

Thanks very much for all your hard work. I for one will never buy one of Cambell Hausfeld products after seeing what it is made of. Such junk indeed. Looks like it's designed to fail. Sorry you had to invest so much of your hard earned money into a losing project. I sure wished the company could see this video.

Hi Kenneth, I like the oil compressors much better and I think they are much quieter as well. This was a yard sale one and it is still working after my repair. It serves its purpose, and is still working very nicely--but for how long? Thanks for the comment, Steve

the compressor worked next the piston arm broke, so I replaced and it worked. Then the Pipe was cracking so replaced it and it looked just like yours. Then the pipe started leaking so much cause the pipe is not regular to find. The Blessed pipe broke three more times and I decided the vibration was doing it I found a hose to take the temp and the pressure. Now I have to change the gaskets again. I have put so much money in this POOR quality compressor. I wish Housefeld would read this..

Why would you spend $75 on that ? If you catch it on sale at Harbor Freight you can get a new one for $75 - $100.

Hi William, and thanks for the comment. I stated on www.yardzoo.us that "The Campbell Hausfeld Air Compressor repair was made for financial reasons. It would have cost a minimum of $150 to replace this WL6500 series 20 gallon with a similar model." I recently checked HF and the 21 gallon compressor is $165.00. It would be nice to have a newer model, but for the money (my original cost was $0), this repair repair cost was more inline with my finances. Plus, I got a chance to use my video camera. By the way, it is still functioning perfectly--the compressor. Again thanks for the comment, SteveAZ711

Hey Steve, I got a H/F flyer sitting here in front of me and it has a 2 hp 8 gal Central Pneumatic for $99. I am glad you guys make these videos. You guys have helped me out more than I can say.
