I’ll probably keep my R5 and spend the money on some new glass. To keep things in perspective, the jump from 5d4 to R5 was a different planet. To R5 II though as someone who takes photos as a hobby and does a little video… the R5 is still fantastic. Apart from long exposures, mine is riddled with hot spots. I was actually thinking of complimenting my R5 with a Panasonic GH7 because it opens up a world of cheaper lenses. And when you’re not making money or claiming VAT, money matters.

Hi Hugh, I enjoyed watching that video. Like you, I have the R5 and I have ordered the R5II. I recall watching your video in relation to the RF 200-800 and as far as I can recall, you cancelled your order. I have one and it is an outstanding lens for wildlife photography and videography. I traded the RF 100-500 against it and I have no regrets. I use the RF 1.4 extender with it at times and it works really well. I have it since April and even of these dull cloudy days I have no difficulty shooting images at 1600 iso or even 3200 iso without any issue. I thinks it is a fantastic lens. It took a bit of getting used to in the beginning. Regards and thanks for the video.

As someone who has the R3, bought it when it first came out, I'm getting the R5MKII. It does all the things I love about my R3, but it's in the smaller body which is preferred on a gimbal, plus it has better video than the R3. The only concern is battery life - the larger battery of the R3 is fantastic and I love how I can easily get through a day with just one battery. The tradeoff of the smaller body and lighter weight is worth the tradeoff of battery life.

Eventually the R5C will become history and retired. It was Canon's answer to the overheating. Its became a mere place holder while Canon worked on the R5II and improve it with a new stacked sensor. Makes no sense for Canon to use resources to manufacture another R5C. Canon has paired the R5II video menu system to the their C400 series cameras. I suspect there will be time code via HDMI since they chose for the full size HDMI vs a dedicated time code port.

@@pickleydoo It's unlikely the R5C would have sold as much as the R5, I would imagine. I'm not sure if Canon have a plan to update it but they really should. At best it'd be next year. But when the R5 2 is now more capable, the lines are crossing a bit, so it's pointless having a camera that's almost similar. The R5II is a great upgrade for the R5, but not the R5C. For video I don't think there's going to be a massive improvement and for all modes from 4k50p up the R5II is line-skipped and not downsampled like the R5C (except 120p). Looks like the only improvements over the R5C is autofocus and IBIS, but then you lose so much eg cinema OS, no overheating etc. And I wonder if they'll have the face only priority AF mode that the R5C has I rely on that all the time for my talking head video. I'm hoping there'll be an R5CII at some stage p.s 'get to the choppa'!

always appreciate your R5C content! just curious, why don’t you consider the S&F mode + audio mode on the R5C the same thing as 4k120 with audio? it’s not ideal that it records to the SD slot for the audio but it works fine . also, I actually prefer it pre-slows down the footage (vs the 4k120 in the R5II shooting 4k120 as “realtime” 120 and requiring slowdown in post, from what I’ve seen) anyway, after almost two years with my R5C, it would take a lot to get me to upgrade to a new R5 camera. really hoping this new battery unlocks a bunch of power improvements for the R5C 🤞🏼🤞🏼
