There's really no one else covering the real world timeline of the game. And some sources make a lot more sense when it's clear they're setting up or "updating" something else.
@BoisegangGaming19 күн бұрын
@Tacsponge The meta-narrative of 40k is perhaps the most interesting element of the setting for me. 40k as a setting should be obtuse, self-contradictory, and filled with unanswered questions. Seeing how different writers and authors handle this can be fascinating but also frustrating at the same time (ex: anything relating to the T'au) The T'au in general are filled with absolute nonsense like "they didn't have FTL" (despite them needing to have it with the timelines established), "their ideology is actually the result of brainwashing" (which is funny because the Imperium does plenty of brainwashing but it's only bad if aliens do it i guess), and other additions meant to make them more "dark" when the appeal is that they're supposed to not feel like they fit into the setting. Having every faction be "morally gray" ends up just diluting all of them. Early T'au were far more distinct and interesting than just "discount imperium of man but it's run by blue cow people".

What I think is most likely for their origin is they and the Ashen Claws are both from the exiled Dust Clad, but after the Heresy they split apart with those still loyal becoming the Carcharodons, and those not loyal became the renegade Ashen Claws. Hence why they seem to work together as they have a shared kinship in their (perhaps forgotten) origin. And would explain why two different groups of marine seem to have the same specific roots.

I think the two chapters are different groups of Exiles, the Ashen Claw were exiled pre-Heresy, whereas there were chapters exiled following Istvaan that included red-armored terminators called Deliverers, one chapter of them being the Pale Nomads. Honestly, "Space Maori that stalk the void between galaxies" is such a fascinating concept and it's a shame they're rarely explored. They're a lot more interesting than the dime-a-dozen space marine chapters because they don't have this "false nobility" of the Blood Angels, Dark Angels, or Ultramarines. They're weapons, not even really human anymore in either sense of the word. The Astartes are at their most interesting when they're monstrous enforcers of a dead and bloated and rotting empire long past its expiration date, a regime that sees human lives as little more than resources to be exploited. The Imperium and its astartes should be horrifying, the end result of a self-destructive fascist state, where humanity itself is vestigial.

I don't know what ADB is up to but in the short story The Long Night, its heavily implied that Sevatar is in some way associated with the Charcarodons. In one scene he dreams of "the sightless sharks of Nostramo's black oceans." He also muses, "The rim is where the true enemies of mankind can be found." He even has a "pet" Raven Guard in Prince of Crows. I think his story is not yet over and I'll wager he'll be taking himself and the remnants of his band to Shark Turf (tm) at some point.

If it can be of any consolation, the Carcharodons almost surely have Night Lords geneseed in their ranks. During the Heresy, the Ashen Claws raided the Nostramo Sector, including the gene-seed of the defending Night Lords, and it's quite likely that it was used for the Carcharodons as well.

We don't know much about Fal himself, but we do know that a portion of his command went blackshield during the Heresy, under the command of the famed Praetor Nerat Kirine. They were the Ashen Claws, and they still exist as a separatist faction out in the Halo Stars. During the Heresy, they scoured the Nostramo Sector between 10-11.M31, after the Thramas Crusade, far from the Heresy's front lines, neutralising the threat of the Night Lords as a single coherent Legion. But they fought for resources, not for the Emperor, because they also attacked and robbed some Ultramarines on the planet of Desperation. From what we can gather, the Space Sharks are the portion of Arkhas Fal's forces that refused to abandon their oaths to the Imperium, as opposed to the Ashen Claws. All this is from Horus Heresy Book 6 - Retribution, by Forge World.

The only thing that separates them from renegades is their force of will to protect the empire, and their insistence that their edicts justify whatever actions they take. The 11th raven guard chapter in the heresy kept the name "pale nomads" and was the terminator elite that corax hated. The 18th chapter specifically was the ashen claw, the 11th were kept around because the deliverers (terminators) were useful to a point While the 18th were exiled / abandoned earlier at gate42, The 11th pale nomads would be sent off in a seperate exile. Make of that what you will. A chapter mostly made up of Terran terminators Source: breaking of the perfect fortress - gw

My homebrew chapter does a similar abduction where they abduct guardsmen and other tough humans as chapter serfs or to settle their homeworld. They also sometimes collect undesirables to give to their local Forgeworld.

Have they directly replaced the Ashen Claws? Whom I seem to recall once held sway over a great deal of similar lore. And that's why you watch the whole video before commenting.

Nahh, the Ashen Claws are still around, one of their books involves them haggling with the Ashen Claws for support in exchange of materiel

The ashen claw are descended from arkhas fal and are still independent. The heresy books name the ashen claw blackshields as the 18th chapter, while the deliverers of the rg legion stayed on in the 11th chapter pale nomads and were sent out after the heresy was under way
