I rather prefer the Ghemor-class Flight Deck Carrier... it feels like real successor to Keldon... as if tailored for very messy business. You see, there I was, taking care of my negotiation business on a Federation outpost near the Cardassian border. Then this one Human doctor with vivid imagination accused me of being a spy! A Talshiar no less! Called me a pointy-ear at one time, Federation inclusion at its finest if you ask me. Do not get me wrong and pardon my old bones but that situation made me laugh. But then he claimed to recognize me from some far away Nebulae and it started a very sorry mess. If it was not for my friendly Cardassian friends nearby, I would have feared for my life as this doctor was quite insistent, armed with his colorful wild accusations. It almost spoiled my business prospects that day ... and that would be such a shame. Oh well, that day It turned out he was smuggling bio-memetic gel back in his younger days. Last I heard, he was out of his own health business shortly after. So you see, I tend to not mix into other peoples business, you never know who is watching with wild accusations to ruin your day.

I always forget that Cardassian Keldon classes could fit Cloaking devices. Like sure they might be lower tech then the big 3 but even if they got cut off from Romulan devices, they likely could get their hands on some klingon devices to retro fit and reverse engineer them. The Keldon actually could work the way the show talked about the Galor in that it could drop cloak and fire is spiral wave guns at point blank. And that actually would do damage. You know the Order likely has Caches of these things all over the place with the cloak gear. Knowing them there is no way they sent them all to the raid on the founders.
@biggaymike1983Ай бұрын
By 2410 the Keldon have been mostly retired, replaced with a suite of vessels designed from the ground up to be on par with modern competitors. Part of that being the integration of their own Cardassian designed and built cloaking devices, and expanded and improved intelligence and reconnaissance functionality. They were instrumental in coordinating alliance forces against the Hurq, and in combating the founders attempts to subvert and mask their involvement. The Damar class dreadnought was the more direct successor to the Keldon, but was significantly larger, more heavily armed, and equipped with top-of the line sensor suites and scientific facilities. Whilst designed to be capable of long-term surveillance and deep-space assignments, these vessels were not expected to work alone however, but to coordinate with the flight deck carriers, escorts and frigates that were designed alongside it, a whole new replacement fleet to act as a shining example of a New Cardassia, free from the insidious control of the Obsidian Order, where secrets were not hoarded, but shared.

It still feels weird to me that the round end is the front. I only remembered ever seeing them stationary before your videos, so I assumed the split tail was the front, with the bridge in the rear overlooking the entire ship. Feels like a dagger pointed at the enemy, with everything aggressively pointing forward, which feels very in line with the Cardassian approach to foreign cultures. It would also play into the imagery, orienting their vessel so whoever they're facing is effectively "beneath" the figure, staring "down" at them from the bridge. Instead its round head and backwards-facing "fins" make it look like a dugong...

I wonder if Eagle Moss has a model of this beast, it looks cool enough I want one for my shelf. That said, it's nice to see that, at least in-universe, the Cardassians are finally trying to catch up on technology compared to their neighbors, it's about time they look security seriously.

Cardassia was my favorite Star Trek civilization, but man do I think they have some lame looking ships personally. The Keldon does look a bit better than the Galor though. The addition of the top section helps make the parts of the ship that stick out on the front and back not look so janky.

Comparing the Keldon's variable warp geometry to the Intrepid makes a lot of sense to me, as the Keldon would presumably have been made with the Badlands in mind, and where did Starfleet send the USS Voyager? well, to the Badlands, where speed and the ability to adjust your warp bubble seem to be very useful

Thank you for presenting this series on the Dominion ships. It was quite helpful for me in my Dominion War game project. One ship is missing, however. I was hoping you would do a video on the Hideki class. The Hideki is a bit confusing because sometimes it is depicted as a shuttle or runabout type vessel and other times as a type of fighter according to some sources. I figured you will get around to making a video on this class eventually, but I hope it will be soon. Thanks in advance.

The Cardassian Military was infamous for using Duridium shadows to manipulate enemy sensors into thinking the shadow was the Cardassian Ship. This tactic was frequently used in the Cardassian/Federation and Cardassian/Klingon wars. The Holographic Technology mentioned in this vid from STO would be a superior version of this tactic unique to the Keldon due to the advanced systems in its design compared to the rest of the Cardassian Fleet.

5:05 5 meters per deck , seems a tad excessive in scale . 5:13 a ship that size should only be 900,000 metric tons even with thicker armour ( which would need to be at lest 3 meters thick for 2.23M mt.
@casbot712 ай бұрын
Do the warp coils being in thick chunky wings instead of being delicate nacelles exposed on pylons give any disadvantages? Is that why Cardassian ships can't reach as high a warp factor as Starfleet, or is that down to other factors like less advanced technology? Because if it's just a cultural quirk without a performance hit, then it's a better basic design paradigm from the perspective of the warp drive systems not being as vulnerable.
@crownprincesebastianjohano70692 ай бұрын
From a military perspective the Cardassians are smart to protect their nacelles. Also, Cardassian ships were not that slow. They may not have been as fast as the latest Starfleet ships in 2370, but they were capable of Warp 9.3+. The limitations are likely their warp cores being not as powerful. But, the Obsidian Keldons, that are later made standard once the Central Command took over Orias following the fall of the Order, had better warp cores. These Obsidian Keldons were faster than the Defiant.

Watching DS9, I was under the impression that the Keldon was the upgraded replacement for the Galor, but that they were for military use only, and that they were in no way intended for use by the Obsidian Order, as they were forbidden to possess military equipment. The Order got their hands on some anyway, being the little shits that they are, for that endaevour with the Tal Shiar. Where do we learn that this thing was purpose built (you'd assume by the Central Command) for use by/with the Order?
@crownprincesebastianjohano70692 ай бұрын
We know the Keldon Class existed since the late 2360s and was introduced as a heavier ship than the already quite effective Galor Type III. We can infer the Order built theirs from scratch because there are shipyards in the Orias System and because they have better systems. Gul Dukat said the Obsidian Keldons were much faster than *any Keldon he'd seen.* This tells us that the Keldon Class was already in service with the military despite the viewers never have seen them. Considering the Obsidian Keldons were able to chase down the Defiant at Impulse, and was quickly gaining on the Defiant as they chased them, we can infer that the Obsidian Keldons had a top speed of either 9.6+, or 9.8+ depending on what one believes the max speed of the Defiant is. This suggests that the Obsidian Keldons were all a step-up from the regular Keldons in military service, as well as having cloaking devices.
