Wrestling Bios Presents - The Career of "Texas Tornado" Kerry Von Erich
Kerry Von Erich proved to be one of the most popular wrestlers to come out of the Von Erich family. While WWE fans will remember Kerry as his time as The Texas Tornado, other fans will know that Kerry established himself as a main player in World Class Championship Wrestling in Dallas.
Kerry joined his brothers in the Dallas territory and became an instant fan favourites, just like all the Von Erichs during this time period. Kerry would have the most success out of all the brothers though, capturing the NWA World Heavyweight Championship before making his way to the WWF to become the Intercontinental Champion. His Summerslam match with Mr. Perfect is still fondly remembered today.
In this mini documentary from Wrestling Bios, we take a look at one of wrestlings most promising stars and an instant fan favourite; Kerry Von Erich, the Texas Tornado. Topics covered include:
01:33 - Kerry Von Erich begins his sports entertainment career with his brothers in Dallas
04:31 - Kerry's main event push after defeating former NWA Champion Harley Race
06:12 - Kerry Von Erich becomes NWA World Heavyweight Champion
09:41 - Kerry Von Erich and The Motorcycle
11:04 - AWA Superclash 3 featuring Jerry Lawler vs Kerry Von Erich
13:24 - The Texas Tornado WWF Debut
14:26 - The Texas Tornado vs Mr. Perfect at SummerSlam
Much More!

In 1985, my family and and I were at a restaurant in the Dallas area when Kerry accompanied by a lady walked in. As they entered, the whole restaurant went quiet and everyone stopped what they were doing and all eyes were on Kerry. As Kerry and his companion were seated, the place went wild and people all gathered around his table to shake his hand, get an autograph and several had cameras and got pictures with Kerry. Kerry was very gracious and friendly with everyone and on his way out I ask Kerry for his autograph. He smiled and gave his signature and even took time to talk to me for a few seconds and shook my hand. As a 10 year old kid at that time, to me Kerry seemed like a real life super hero and had a great look, body and personality and was in person a super nice man. We miss you Modern Day Warrior!

Cool story! Hope U still have the Signature atleast..I was fortunate to buy 1 of those WWF Promo pictures with His Auto on it..I framed it and put it with rest of my Collection..He Pillman Owen and Sting were and are my favorites! I also like Dino Bravo as well..To me, Dino Bravo amd Kerry were WWFs biggest what could have been! Dino was the Strongest they ever Had or atleast close to it..Maybe Warlord was Stronger?! Kerry had best look that made Ultimate Warrior look less impressive! Both should have been pushed better! Today, they'd piss all over Brock Lesnar

That's how you know someone is a Real Kerry Von Erich fan when they aren't afraid to point out his greatest most obvious weakness, his mic work. He would get better as he got older but even then he was still average at best. But he more than made up for it with his Movie Star Looks & in ring charisma

The Von Erich boys were very good people . Kerry was a dear friend of mine and he is greatly missed by myself and millions of others. So many things happened to those boys way to fast and some of the decisions that Kerry made were not thought through and didn't turn out very well...... If he had stopped for a minute and thought about how many people that he would hurt and how many lives he would have devastating affects on, he would have not taken his own life. He was VERY dedicated to his family, friends and his fans, he was a Christian. He did not ever want to disappoint any of us. He loved his girls Holli and Lacey so very much, I know that he is very proud of the strong beautiful women that they are today, and he's watching over them and their families RIP KERRY GENE ADKISSON aka KERRY VON ERICH You're very loved and missed my friend ❣️

I got to go to the Sportatorium once in the mid 80s...living in Louisiana, I was a Mid South/UWF loyalist but I became a fan of the VonErichs that weekend!! The relationship the fans in North Tx had for those boys cannot be fully put into words. Flair was huge in the Atlantic South and Japan, the Road Warriors were a huge deal all over the US and in Japan, Hogan was super human in the North East and mid west...but the Von Erichs were as popular as any of the previously mentioned wrestlers but they were also truly loved by those people...the Von Erichs WERE those people. The Von Erichs went to the same schools as some of the fans, they hunted the same lands, ate at the same restaurans, loved the Dallas Cowboys with the same fervor...Denton, Tx wasn't a phony hometown...those boys were from that exact patch of dirt, same as their fans and they were loved for it. God fckn' speed, Kevin!! All love and respect to you, the soul survivor of the great Von Erich dynasty.

As a former pro wrestler, I love watching the von Erich family wrestling each and every weekend on world class championship, that's what made me want to become a professional wrestler. Kerry was my all-time favorite, this kid had it all, looks, size and was a great athlete, I always hope to meet Kerry when I was on the road wrestling not only with the wwf, but on the Indy shows also, unfortunately that never happened. I was grateful to meet Kevin years later with the iwccw. Still today I watch his videos, and say to myself this kid was awesome, I'm still saddened by his tragic death and wished someone reached out to him, but sometimes people hide things so good that we can't tell what's going on ,on the inside. He will be a lasting memory in the wrestling business, as well as in his family, and many, many wrestling fans. May you rest in power, my brother.

In 1988 Kerry wrestled Iceman King Parson in my hometown out on our football field. He was the WCCW champ at the time. A big crowd of fans gathered around Kerry as he walked to the ring. Everyone was yelling KERRY!!!! KERRY!!!! At the same time the belt was being passed around the crowd of people. My cousin and I got to touch the WCCW title. It was a crazy brawl of a match that ended up in front of us outside the ring and they beat the hell out of each other with steel chairs. I was 7 years old at the time. A picture of the steel chair brawl made the front page of the local paper and you could see my little blonde head in the picture. Great memory!!!! The Missing Link was also at the show. He had a big long Lincoln or caddy with long horn horns on the front of the car.

I really hope his family positioned the state for ppl to actually get help instead of lengthy, school of hard knocks, prison sentences for drug charges. Real change was needed and still is.most ppl never have empathy for ppl like this and will even say they deserved it for breaking the law. Most humans self medicate when there is no other option and your pleas for help are ignored. Especially from traumatic experiences. This guy was a local legend! He deserved so much more.

I remember well when the Von Erich's were the toast of World Class Championship Wrestling... which got syndicated down to San Antonio and replaces Southwest Championship Wrestling, which was local. I grew up watching that first and fell in love with wresting then, but the Von Erich's, and in particular, Kerry were fun to watch. Very tragic thing that family suffered. He was something special, that's for sure.

Looking back at the Kerry vs Mr Perfect match, you can tell Kerry was very limited with Mr. Perfect but Curt had the athletic ability to make magic in the ring with anyone who was stiff as long as Kerry just provided the strength and power, Curt would provide the acrobatics.

Damn, imagine if Kerry was able to build his Modern Day Warrior moniker to be the next guy to replace Hogan (instead of Ultimate Warrior). He sure as hell had the physique for it. He was a hell of an athlete and could run the ropes better than Ultimate at the least.

Atris AJ much deserved The Von Erics absolutely , positively , 💯 % deserve everything bit of shine they get and IMO they should get some shine or brought up on a weekly basis , The Von Erics were all my heroes but Kerry Von Eric was definitely my #1 by a Far margin over his Siblings even though I loved them as well , Kerry was just above and beyond and this man could Handle anything that was put in front of him it’s just sad that we never seen the Prime Careers of any of the Von Eric brothers because of overdoses and suicide , that hurt me more than anything as a fan that these Young Studs that everyone wants to Praise and to just have had the chance to be HUGE FANS of Kerry Von Eric and he goes and takes to much of a drug and was no longer able to entertain us anymore , but we have videos like this that we can always sit and watch and NO ONE can take the Replays of the careers of Kerry and his siblings ... RIP to the very BEST Wrestling Family in History , along with the Hart family they were also amazing

Very tragic, I believe Kerry could've had a comeback had he not thought he ruined it, he could've went to rehab, and I think everyone would've embraced him, but addiction was viewed a lot differently then, and sometimes still misunderstood. RIP

I can't speak for his time prior to working in the WWF, but even if you were not aware of the foot amputation, you can spot something slightly off with Kerry's legs despite him having real tell in the moved around in the ring; simply look at how his boots fit his legs: The left boot conforms to the curves of his leg, not so much with his right leg as the boot didn't quite hug his leg, appearing rather squarish. I think it's why he wore the tassels on his boots as it would somewhat visually obscure the differences between the two boots.

Kerry always looked like a million dollars, well before his WWF years, Curt Hennig always sold like a champion he was, that Freebird-Von Erich rivalry is a feud in wrestling history that can't come close to being repeated.
