The Ultimate Warrior was one of the true legends of professional wrestling. During his time in the WWE / WWF, Jim Hellwig was able to capture the imagination of millions of fans, become a worldwide fan favourite and becoming one of wrestling's most recognizable superstars. The unique character of the Ultimate Warrior was truly what the late 80s and early 90s was all about.
The Ultimate Warrior started his career tagging with Steve Borden, better known to wrestling fans as the legendary Sting. Jim Hellwig decided to go solo and become The Dingo Warrior in WCCW. It wasn't long afterwards that the WWF came knocking on Warrior's door, and he was brought into the company and eventually renamed "The Ultimate Warrior".
The Ultimate Warrior became a huge star in the WWF, exciting fans as he rushed to the ring with high intensity for his matches. His theme song and entrance became just as important as his matches as he rose up the WWF ranks, eventually winning the Intercontinental title from The Honky Tonk man and having storied matches with Ravishing Rick Rude. Eventually, The Warrior was able to capture the WWF Championship in a well remembered WrestleMania moment. At WrestleMania 6, The Ultimate Warrior defeated the face of the WWF, Hulk Hogan.
This mini documentary from Wrestling Bios looks at the career of The Ultimate Warrior from his WWF debut year of 1987 all the way up to his departure in 1992. Topics covered include:
02:23 - Jim Hellwig and Steve Borden begin their wrestling journey
03:55 - The Debut of The Dingo Warrior in WWF
06:12 - The Ultimate Warrior vs Hercules
07:08 - Ultimate Warrior vs Honky Tonk Man Intercontinental title match
08:02 - The Warrior feuds with Rick Rude after the Royal Rumble Super Posedown
10:08 - The Ultimate Challenge at WrestleMania 6
12:44 - Macho Man Randy Savage vs Ultimate Warrior Retirement Match
14:46 - Ultimate Warrior holds up Vince McMahon at SummerSlam 1991
17:05 - The Ultimate Warrior returns at WrestleMania 8
- Much More!

The 1990 Royal Rumble was not just Hogan inadvertently eliminating the Warrior. During the Rumble at one moment, all other participants were cleared out by Hogan and Warrior and only those two briefly in the ring one on one. It was electrifying and the crowd stood in attendance, to witness something that had not been seen on PPV. The two top babyfaces facing off.

I still own Wrestlemania 5 on VHS. My favourite part of the match is right at the start when Rude goes to knee Warrior in the gut, but he sells his knee because he actually hit the IC Title belt that Warrior still had around his waist. It's the little things that go a long way. The whole rivalry between Rick Rude and the Ultimate Warrior is definitely worth a watch.

Great video. I found it when trying to show my young son the Warrior's entrance. I remember when I saw it first, we had the WWF at the time in Dublin but it was his "first" entrance on that, I think they said he was a newcomer to the WWF. The energy, music, run, shaking the ropes, smashing the opponent, it was iconic. I think I was about 12 at the time but he seemed super human. He looked a level above everyone else. Totally crazy. Instant hit. Thanks for video.

You know it's gonna be a great video when Wrestling Bios' intro music is the same music played on Smacktalk's YT channel.... I'm probably not the only one that noticed this lol Anyways, great video!

Really? It's a random license free song I found on KZbin Sound Library. One of the many reasons why I don't like using songs there, but it did sound very fitting

@@WrestlingBios I know it's a royalty-free KZbin song. I was just making an observation. I like the song regardless of what channel it is on.

Randy Macho Man Paffo Savage and Jim "Warrior" Hellwig, two of the best of friends in real-life. I met Warrior while I lived near his home in Scottsdale AZ in the mid 90's until 2012. I have to say, Dana and Warrior were the nicest people that has ever walked this Earth. There will be no one else more inspiring and wise, who cared for people to believe in themselves like Warrior. Heck, his KZbin videos were motivating, very intellectual and articulate just like him. No other wrestler ever reached out to his fans or simply to those who needed an injection of pure inspiration quite like him. In the end, all he wanted and be was a real good father, a mentor and a role model to his kind-hearted daughters Indiana and Mattigan. Rest in Peace Warrior! Thank you for making my teenage years fun and Ultimate!

@@ed-roc2054 DVD. Sorry. The one I never got was the one warrior released himself in response to Self Destruction because i couldn't find it anywhere but I think SD is on KZbin somewhere. The fact that it's so blatantly negative only seems to add (to me) to the mythos of the character. Almost like he's portrayed as part of a horror film at times.

Back when Ultimate Warrior showed up in WCW, I remember a friend telling me that it wasn't REALLY the Ultimate Warrior. That original Warrior died, and the current one was really his brother. Apparently, there were people who really believed that at the time.

I remember first seeing him as a kid and was awe strucked, one of the reason I became a character and creature artist and was SOLEY focused on anatomy and muscles i had a plush of the damn guy as a kid.

I bought into the hype for this guy so much as a kid! I’d got into wrestling just before Mania 6 so I missed a bit of Hulk’s rise and this guy was like a living action figure or super hero! I know it’s easy to mock him now but as a kid he was The Man!

They did give Warrior a great feud as champion, when the Macho King came after him for the belt. It was a huge, HUGE mistake for the then WWF to have Hogan wrestle Slaughter for the belt at WM7, instead of having a championship rematch between Warrior and MK. Didn't make sense that Macho King didn't go after Slaughter for the belt. That match at WM7 would have been even bigger if the belt had been involved.
