It’s even more terrifying when you look in to why this album was made and the context of it, it’s basically the caretakers take on mark fishers suicide and the fog that clouds a person’s thoughts during the decision to take one own life. Sorry if this comes across as morbid but it’s important to know the context so we can all understand depression better, and hopefully conquer it together.

@Alia DeVous it’s a representation of Mark Fisher and his work, and his grim outlook on life that inspired Layland Kirby (the caretaker) and vice versa. Mark fisher took his own life on the 13th of January 2017 at age 48. This track is dedicated to him and all earnings from physical sales go to mental health charities

In 2006, “Theoretically pure anterograde amnesia” saw the release of a 6xCD box set, with each CD holding 12 tracks, making 72 tracks in total. Also contained in the box set was a small pamphlet with writing by “k-punk” (also known as Mark Fisher) explaining the deviation of the Caretaker’s focus from the haunted ballroom and into amnesia. The final sentences of the pamphlet read as follows: “Take care. It’s a desert out there…”

That would be hard. To listen to this thinking that it's simply celebrating the life of someone who died naturally. Only to discover that Mark Fisher hung himself. What makes it even more sad is that apparently the album name is something that Mark Fisher said himself as part of an earlier Caretaker album.

Mark suffered a lot with depression, a lot of his works are perfect embodiments of the political economy we are stuck with today, despite all of this however, this really shows how he was able to inspire so many people, and his book “capitalist realism” is a beautiful book, rest in peace mark, and for anyone else out there, unable to find anything which seems possible to do, I’m here with you, and so are many many others. I'm trying hard, but nothing is possible anymore but everything is still expected. I fucking hate it. (Edit: just to add on, it's extra expensive and impossible for me in particular just because being trans in america is fucking undoable. You want a body that doesn't actively make you have suicidal thoughts? Too bad. I met Mark thanks to this album. I couldn’t meet him personally, but I think that these videos and music albums were the perfect introduction (this one in particular). After 2 years, I have finally read all of his books, and it was all thanks to you. What began as a trending meme about “the darkest music album of the internet” ended up being a journey that changed my life forever. From capitalist realism to acid communism, from hauntology to lost futures, from Fisher’s concern for mental health and the End of History to Everywhere at the End of Time. It all made sense all of a sudden. The future has been cancelled. The ones who have been slowly but steadily losing their memories were us all along. You did the best you could have done Leyland. I hope Fisher won’t be ever forgotten. Take care, it’s a desert out there…

@@BlissBee it's quote from writer, media critic and phisopher Mark Fisher. Mark Fisher collaborated with James Kirby (The Caretaker) on a few projects. In 2017 he commited suicide after having dealt with depression for his whole life and in response to that Kirby made this in dedication of him ("take care, its a dessert out there" is the final sentence in a pamphlet Fisher wrote for/about Kirbys album "theoretically pure anterograde amnesia") The quote is about how we need to stop seeing the spike in depression in the last 20 years and other mental illnesses as an individual problem solely caused by (a lack of) chemicals in someone's head and instead see it as a product of people not being able to handle todays extremely fast paced late-capitalist world. He wrote about this in his books Captalist Realism and Ghost of My life

If you look at the painting, it looks like a parent figure attending to their children. The children sit upon a platform for which the parent supports but the parent also feels the children are a great part of it and are a grounding for the parent's life. But, look at the head on the parent. On the right is a shadowy head of a someone looking as if they are crying out in agony. This is the conscious of the parent yet the parent mostly keeps the children looking down at the ground, and to not look at the problems of their parent. Knowing that Mark was a father and a man who took his own life makes this art piece surreal and disturbing.

I think this might have something to do with Mark's suicide, or the absence of consciousness he experienced afterword. Either way, Mark Fisher did not deserve to die, especially in the way he did. I find his words inspirational, and he did not deserve the backlash he got from his statements. Also, apparently the title has something to do with Fisher himself. He wrote commentary about some of the Caretaker's earliest work, and the final sentence said “Take care. It’s a desert out there…”, which is obviously the quote this album was named after. I actually find this very respectful, and at the same time kind of chilling, with the fact that it was at the very end of the pamphlet he wrote his commentary on. This artwork actually feels like visualized Lovecraftian horror, which is actually really cool. It's unrecognizable, slightly human-like, and bizarre to lay your eyes on. No matter how many times you look at one of those paintings, you can't name a single object in the image. (But I guess EATEOT Stage 1 is kind of an exception, it's just a rolled-up piece of paper.)

@dreaminsepsis2542
@dreaminsepsis2542 Жыл бұрын
@@regulate.artificer_g23.mdctlsk I’m glad you asked. His stances on communism is the thing that would be expected to be the most hated, but it was actually his criticisms of online call-out culture, specifically in his essay “Exiting the Vampire Castle” from 2013. He believed and wrote that call-out had created a space that made solidarity impossible, but guilt and fear omnipresent (this is almost a verbatim quote here, a lot of these words are actually in the essay). The backlash could have started anywhere from the mention of orientation around economic classes, to the use of increased leftist solidarity, to the very mention of disagreement with and departure from the phenomenon of call-out culture. Either way, the backlash was big, and I’m sure it must’ve haunted him one way or another. That’s not to say there was no praise for it, though.

I don't really see this as a part of the EATEOT timeline. I just see this as a tribute and nothing more. If I really had to come up with a way to work it into a narrative, I would think this is a direct mirror of the real events; the Caretaker is grieving over a recently lost loved one. If it absolutely needs to be part of the timeline, I think it'd be before or near the start of EATEOT. Either before or between the first two stages. Anything later and the Caretaker would be too deteriorated to properly grieve
