Many people promised us that Formentera is the Caribbean of the Med: blue water, sandy beaches and palm trees. Well they weren't wrong! This place is incredibly beautiful and the water...
is like a swimming pool, even at 8 meters deep. Incredible!! But well, it's high season in Spain and the Spanish love their power boats and jet skis. So you either join them or glue anything that's not screwed in yet to the surface and jump in the water to get some time out from all the wobbling. And with water like that, it is no punishment to be swimming!
So today we'll show you the Balearics from a different side: HIGH SEASON! Last year we sailed around Menorca and Mallorca in autumn, but this year (due to well.. circumstances) we ended up in the Balearics in high season instead of spring. Was it a bad idea to sail over to Formentera and Ibiza in August? Time will tell! At least the water is to die for :)

Who are we?
We are a European couple from Germany (Alex) and the Netherlands (Mandy), sailing around the Med on our 36ft sailboat. 12 months ago we started our journey in Greece with little sailing experience, figuring things out as we go, thinking we know what we are getting ourselves into. Our goal is to circumnavigate the world on our 36ft Beneteau. Sailboat life is super different from land life. It is fantastic and pretty rough at times. see the little things tries to FIND HAPPINESS BY DOING THINGS THAT ARE HARD. Join us on this journey and let's find happiness together!
If you have any COMMENTS, suggestion, questions or feel to need to praise (or scold) us, leave a comment down below and we’d happily write you back :). Of course a THUMBS UP is ALWAYS APPRECIATED very much so and helps us a lot!

Another great video you guys, we love the chemistry you have together. Anchoring is so interesting to watch when boats arrive and yes it gets very noisy between people trying to communicate, we have now adopted hand signals (not rude ones) to get the job done. The intermission is great and very refreshing, this is the best channel on the tube.

Hi Alex and Mandy, there is no substitute for just being you raw and original, it is great. No fancy cinematic webby influencer wannabe nonsense, so thanks for keeping it real. Hey guys, love the video you just did. I try and take all my sailing blogs with a grain of salt. It’s entertainment not rocket science. My first boat I was a wreck, my wife and I struggled not to kill each other. In later years I must say that things have changed, and I’m glad. I’m sure most people could complain about something. I think of it as crayons. There are a lot of colors to choose from, but in the end, they are all part of the painting. To each their own. Love your stories.

Regarding your anchoring comment around 5 minute mark, my understanding is that the sea grass being protected in the Mediterranean usually does not grow below some 35m. So I guess that is why they allow anchoring in deeper waters. But I guess it all explained in some environmental protection document that the Mediterranean countries signed together some years ago. Thanks for nice videos.

Another gr8 video, it's so easy to see your chemistry :-) I have another recipe for you. Potato pancakes. All you need is to chop one peeled white potato and one egg. Then a spoon of chopped garlic and a spoon of chopped shallots and salt and pepper. It works the best if you chop together with a machine, but can be done with a knife, but you want everything to be like the texture of sand. Then spoon onto a buttered frying pan over medium heat, wait about 30 seconds and then flip over. These little cakes are amazing! Eat by themselves, or with yogurt or caviar, vegetables, whatever. Only 5 minutes from prep, to mouth

Hey guys! We loved this video and thanks for the Q&A time - it's reassuring to get your experience too. I wonder if you've had any problems/breakages during passages and how you dealt with them? Today we sprung a leak beneath the sink in our head and spurted 300l of fresh water into the bilges 2h into an 8h passage. Then the autopilot failed and started spinning us in circles while we tried to furl the jib in. It was an adrenaline overload! Trying not to be mad at our boat but feeling kinda sad. Wondered how you guys overcome these things. Big love from up the road in Gandía. Xx

We really love your videos, and have watched your journey from the beginning, your humour and the connection between you is lovely. The chat at the end of this video was excellent, the section on Anchoring had us both agreeing we would adopt it when we finally get a boat, I just downloaded your booklet which I look forward to reading. I am an armchair expert, but have very limited experience, so any tips from people that have learned along the way, have a lot more meaning to us. Depending on what happens in the world with Covid19, we should be buying our boat, and be out in the med next season? Keep living your dream? Pete (60) & Mandy (50) - (yes another one)

Great bikes, Canada West Strida it turns out is about two hours away..Penticton (home)- Grand Forks .... you talking about the fighter jets took me down memory lane, back to growing up on the Weser River, (Lauenforde) for three years in the 60's at which time the post war occupational forces, the allied forces carried out training maneuvers in the area it would be in the fall after harvest, and any damage that was done to the fields would be repaired before departure ... the fighter would come through skimming the roof tops, even if you were inside conversations would halt due to the deafening noise .. one night 240 (if I remember correctly) rolled through town, the house shook consistently for the duration ... my friends and I would be all over the place on our bikes, sometimes there was chocolate for the German kids and other times there would be this German Kid that spoke fluent English. the look on faces was always good, I was about ten, would show, tell sometimes where the opposition was dug in .. was a good part of my youth, have good memories of that period of my life .. thx for sending me down memory lane .... thx for sharing, like your addition of the Q&A section ..... as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans .....

You know, the water is so clear because the Posidonia uses up most of the nutrients and leave little to planktonic algae that make water greenish turbid. Something similar happens with the corals in the Caribbean although those are doing much worse due to pollution and climate change (not anchors)

Hi Ryan, we have a good 2.3hp Honda outboard. Indestructible, but louder than it is fast ;). And our dinghy is a 3D-Tender. It’s a French brand. and the SUP bottom is fantastic. Very very sturdy :) absolutely love it!

@@seethelittlethings Awesome. Do you wish you'd have got a 3.5/4hp motor? We've just boat a sun odyssey 33i in Greece ourselves and are going out to it tomorrow but still need to get a dinghy/outboard combination. Super interested by the inflatable floor dinghies but didn't know how hard they actually inflate to but it sounds from what you're saying that they're pretty solid like a SUP. Hate the slat dinghies as you always feel like you're gonna go over the side when you get in them (and I have! haha). I've seen a few 3d-tender dinghies actually and people generally have good things to say about them. Also what size dinghy did you get and are you happy with it or do you wish you'd have got a different size? Especially if/when guests come onboard? :)
@seethelittlethings
@seethelittlethings 4 жыл бұрын
We tested a mercury 3.5 and it’s much quieter and has a bit more oompfh. For Greece that would be fine. We would go for a 4 or 5hp on that one if we had to buy new. It’s the 230 V Bottom. Make sure you get V shape bottom. Check marinesuperstore.co.uk We can take 4 people if we have to / it’s fun and splashy. Riding alone we can get it to plane with 2.3hp. But we’re about 65kg.
@ryanjennings8132
@ryanjennings8132 4 жыл бұрын
@@seethelittlethings Perfect. Exactly the information I needed. Really appreciate that. People have been telling me to get a 2.6m dinghy max (so it'll fit on deck) even though I wanted a 3m really and to stick to a 3.5hp outboard so it'll be light enough to not make it a chore moving it around. Seems to fit inline with what you're saying and I'll definitely look at the vdecks, should add some more stability to the dingy for sure. Love what you guys are doing. If you ever head back to the Med be sure to give us a nudge. We're not going to liveaboard but as I'm an Contract Developer I feel like I should be able to spend some decent time over on the boat :). Don't suppose you can do a weekly spend at the end of each video. I'm not talking how much you spent on beer and so on more like. You motored for 5 hours used 10ltr diesel, replacing something that broke how much you paid for mooring up/permits. e.g. you went to two marinas and cost £30 each night 3 nights in marina 4 anchorage...... Just so I can get a rough estimate of what I would need to go cruising. I'm trying to work out if i'd need £50 a day on average or more like £20.....

I don't understand why people feel the need to make these comparisons: the Caribbean of this or that place. It is what it is.

I am living in Spain 25 years now and they are still less developed than Germany in 1996, it is a 3d world country with 21th century corruption. If you pass here in Marbella you can eventually dock here in Capobino and I invite you for some shower pool and barbecue

Almost all the sailing videos I've seen do the same mistakes. When you type words, the words are white and your sailboat is white so you really don't get to see what you are typing. If you have a dark background great but that is very seldom because dark colors absorb heat from the sun. So if you type words can you please put a black background behind the words?
