Sabaton History

5 жыл бұрын

The Swedish Kings had to rely on the quality of their armies, often facing foes that had superior numbers. A special soldier class was created. Admired in Sweden and feared on the battlefield, the Caroleans were the secret weapon of the Swedish army. The Sabaton song 'The Carolean's Prayer' is about these remarkable soldiers and their heroic status.

Alex As usual when someone invades Russia. The Russians lose big time, despite vastly outnumbering their opponents, retreat, burn everything. Then counter attack with a force 5 time larger then the invaders. Who are on supplies and over stretched. The Winter would have hurt most armies more but the Swedes were used to it.

IIRC, the sound was made with a wooden cutlery holder and Joachim shaking it infront of the mic, making it sound like thousands of men marching. I do believe they used that technique before Carolus Rex aswell, but I can't remember which song it was. Also, that bit with Joachim was released in one of the recording videos on Sabaton's own channel when they did the recording of Carolus Rex (DUH!).

@Erikaaaaaaaaaaaaa
@Erikaaaaaaaaaaaaa 5 жыл бұрын
I've been a bit sceptical of the concept of this channel to be honest. I've always been very careful with pop history. But you know what? I was wrong. It's not just that your research is top notch, but also that you _approach_ whatever story the song is about from the right perspective, focusing headfirst on both quantifiable facts but also on the interpersonal culture and societal feelings surrounding it, which is so critical. When talking about the Thirty Years' War, for example, it's easy to get bogged down in talking about Dutch innovative infantry formations or the short-sightedness of the Imperial Doctrine, which leaves out the much bigger surrounding picture of the conflict being, proportionately, the most destructive in European history. I've literally never, in my entire time on this earth, seen any KZbin video talk about the Caroleans and the Great Northern War in an accurate way (Partly because Swedish sources are almost never translated) but you guys did it. You made an accurate video about the Caroleans. For the first time in ages, I don't have to write a 10-paragraph comment explaining the fundamental errors of a video about Caroleans. Thank you, so much. Like, when discussing the overwhelming _shock_ of a Carolean charge (Voltaire summarised it quite well: "All who have served with the Swedes know that it is nearly impossible to resist their first charge"), you _can_ include the fact that Caroleans had a habit of loading two or three smaller bullets instead of one regular one, essentially turning their muskets into primitive shotguns, or that the standard distance was between 10-20 paces from the enemy, but it doesn't really matter for the overall point of what Carolean tactics encompassed. I really do appreciate the emphasis on the personal motivations and discipline that was required for the execution of Swedish Shock Tactics. It's important to remember that soldiers are not faceless clones whose sole purpose is to do battle. Great job guys, really! 🤘 Jag undar, tittade någon av er på Armémusets dokumentär om Slaget vid Fraustadt under forskningen för den här videon? (Eller, framförallt, den eventuella framtida videon om "Killing Ground"?)

I've a plaesure to participate in the reenactment of the second battle for Narva, where ve've "fought" on the "russian" side against "karoliners" in this tigt formation musket battle. Although this wasnt real, it liiked like a dumbest way to fight. you get an order to march on, and you stroll slowly, with your musket in hands towards an enemy fire, as your comrades fall besides you. No way to hide, run, retreat. Taking cover was not an option. You were standing tall in the open, under fire. I can only imagine how hellish it was for the actual soldiers in the real war. You just accept your faith and march on....

YES! Thank you for finally doing something from Carolus Rex, my favorite Sabaton album. If I were Swedish I would start a petition to make the entire album my country's national anthem and make it mandatory to broadcast it daily on state radio.

Fader vår som är i himmelen helgat varde ditt namn Tillkomme ditt rike, ske din vilja Såsom i himmelen så ock uppå jorden, ge oss bröd ock idag Och förlåt oss våran skuld This is my absolutely favorite moment in a Sabaton song, because of you I know this prayer by heart now. Thank you for this song.

If you tell the average American college student that Sweden was the most feared country in Europe for an eighty year period, he/she will look at you with doubt. If you tell the same student that the Baltic Sea was once known as the Swedish lake, he/she will think you're misinformed (without having the ability to point at the Baltic on a map). If you suggest that the last two kings to die in battle were Swedes, the defer to google. Please continue informing our youth about the importance of Sweden in the early modern period and in United States history.

I was in Vancouver, BC seeing Sabaton for the 5th time and we were given the option to choose between "Carolean's Prayer" or "Long live the King" and the crowd chose the latter, I was really hoping to sing along with the Carolean's Prayer as I took the time to learn the Lord's prayer portion of the song in Swedish. I hope when you return to Vancouver we will be given another chance to sing!

Man I love this channel, only problem is it is hard to read a history book on any event that Sabaton has done a song. Now with the their history channel to help fill in even more information it is no contest!! Still I love the the fact that the people not the events are glorified in their songs. The ordinary person caught in extraordinary events are remembered and honored as it should be!!!

@@americanday2142 Well, as a US Navy Veteran, Sabaton has done several songs about the US Military, and they are very Honorable to the US Military's portion of History. They're just not on one single album. But there's enough to make a nice mix playlist!
