This is probably my favorite of the Carpenters. I don't think I have seen her happier in singing this song. I also love "Sing a Song". That one is also quite beautiful.

So many people think that Karen was so sad in life and that her sad songs reflected that. She had a self esteem issue but she was a happy woman too. They don't give her credit for being able to interpret an emotional song so well. Very few artists had that gift. So when you react to her songs don't read more into them than the fact that she was great - not only for her beautiful voice but also for the way she sang them.

You two always give such heartfelt responses to the Carpenters (and everyone you review), and nail it every time! Thanks for the great reviews. Karen was truly angelic in voice and spirit. I miss her. Such a huge loss. Your energy and love for what you do, Shawn and Mel, just envelops us all. God bless you, as well.

Karen Crpenter had such a pure beautiful voice. This a very nice Country Pop song with a sweet melody. They wrote great songs back then in the '70's. The original was in the '70's. That is a nice reaction by both of you. It is good that you love to listen to good music. I have a request. The Carpenters ' Road Ode ' and ' Sometimes ' two very good songs.

Fun fact. Lynn Anderson who sang "I Never Promised You A Rose Garden", was talking to Richard & Karen. Richard played this song to her. Lynn asked if they were going to release it as a single. He said, "No". So Lynn recorded it. It was going up the Country charts. That's when Richard decided to release it as a single. Top of the world was a hit on the Country charts & the Pop charts at the same time. I Love both versions. This happened alot. "Delta Dawn" Country hit for Tanya Tucker, Pop hit for Helen Reddy. RIP Karen Carpenter, Lynn Anderson & Helen Reddy. You are all missed by us fans.

Richard wrote the song as an album cut for the "A Song For You" album in 1972. But it became a big hit for country star Lynn Anderson, so they re-recorded it and released it as a single over a year later and it rose to #1 on the charts! She is probably one of the best female vocalists of all time!

Did you know that she was also the bands drummer, and was never happier than when she was sitting at the kit. But, they didn't want to hide her in the back when she sang, not to mention drumming while singing isn't the easiest thing to do. Other singing drummers include Phil Collins of Genesis, Micky Dolenz of the Monkeys, and Don Henley of The Eagles. Plus, one of my new favorite bands, THE WARNING with Paulina Villareal singing many of their songs. I recommend checking them out because they are the future of rock and roll, and hard core musicians, in the surprising package of three sisters from Mexico.

He just suddenly jumped off stage and and went for it. His body guards went nuts trying to protect him and keep the fans from grabbing him!!!
