This woman is disgusting… first of all, you work at a gun store, where I’m sure requires training of how to handle a firearm & you claim it just went off? BS… then to accuse this guy of rape & abuse when you harassed him with nonstop phone calls & literally go hunt him down when he doesn’t come home?! Make it make sense… another case of injustice. As a psychologist, i can tell you that abused women do not track down their abusers with their car, and scream and yell at them out the window, and rage at them in front of their friends. They dont send 30 texts or 30 voicemails one right after the other trying to find them or accuse them of things. Abused women enjoy every quiet moment away from their abuser.
@annev7863

It's really interesting that you point this out. I am wondering if she even felt abused. I think she may have been so fixated on her 'pleaser' mindset that she didn't even see herself as a victim. She also has a fight response when afraid, rather than trying to escape or hide, suggesting that in trying to please him and not succeeding, she is frustrated. Yes I think she is abusive too Yes I think at least she should have been found guilty of manslaughter Are there more people out there like her that do not see themselves as victims and are therefore not seeking help?

Nope.. casey Anthony case was another level... This won't come near that... I have never seen a case like casey Anthony where I wish I wanted to put that jury in prison... In this case mistakes r done by police... moving the gun and fkced up with confession video which made jurors to have reasonable doubt... Even they agree she killed her and she is guilty but not in prison..and here the victim also toxic towards her....and she was also...But in casey Anthony case... Innocent child died..and the beach got away and roaming free and giving interviews and shows for money

So true. Had to do that once--called a domestic abuse hotline. They were stellar. Had a young daughter and two dogs with me. I was able to relocate rather than go into a shelter, thankfully, but would have done what I needed to do. Then he tracked me down and had a couple years of stalking. Was told by abuse expert that it would be safer in my case to not get a PFA. Long stupid story. This was over a decade ago. Haven't dated since. Check about every 6-12 months to see if his address changes and for an obituary. (When he dies I can open my first-floor blinds again.) Daughter was affected but is living a successful mostly happy adult life despite my mistakes. Sure did learn a lot.

And that they had evidence of her pointing a gun at him.. she was allowed to accuse Steven of rape and abuse with no evidence but Steven had no one to defend him in that trial. She never cried. Not ONCE!! Never shed an actual tear. Never wiped her eyes cuz there was no tears to cry. She played victim from the beginning with her fake frantic hysteria. She changed her story multiple times, which is a sure sign of deception. She never said anything about self defense because she wasn’t attacked. She made up stories to paint Steven as a monster when she was the real monster. And most damaging is that she actually admitted to killing the poor guy. Those jurors let a monster walk free, and she has NO remorse. When I look at her I see an insecure and jealous woman afraid of a man leaving her, and she acted out in anger when she realized he was done. He looked kind and sweet and like he put up with a lot from this woman. Unfortunately he didn’t get out soon enough. I’m so sorry for him and his family… I really hope they push for a retrial. Moral of the story don’t stay with someone because you feel sorry for them, or feel guilty because they guilt trip you into staying. Just leave and don’t look back.

ALL of the Jury must agree whether you are guilty or Not guilty. If there are any hold-outs, then it's a mistrial because guilt or innocence has not been determined by every member of the Jury. So for a Guilty/Not Guilty verdict, the entire jury is in agreement. If a single member of the jury does not agree with the other members of the jury and there can be no resolve, then it's declared a mistrial. If the jury verdict is Not Guilty they can not have another trial aka double jeopardy.... but if there is a mistrial then another trial can happen if the prosecution decides they want to go out it again. The Double Jeopardy Clause in the Fifth Amendment to the US Constitution prohibits anyone from being prosecuted twice for substantially the same crime.

He admits to breaking their TV out of anger from her constantly with holding their son and coming at him. I don't condone him breaking anything but humans lose their temper. It's been a constant battle for the past two years with her. She doesn't allow any of the family to see the baby. No one has been nasty to her, as much as we'd like to. Men often are seen as monsters and not believed that they were abused simply because they are men. My kids were all taught to not strike a partner. Fights happen but violence is not the answer on either part. It just stinks that my son is in jail and the ex is the one that did the abusing. She's 4'8 and he's 6'3. He'd honestly hurt her had he ever struck her. He'd also catch the wrath from us for doing so. This trial was a mess. Yes the confession was messed up but she changed her story so many times. She cried crocodile tears. Why get up on the stand and accuse your deceased husband of rape and abuse when you have never told anyone about it before.

Taking the self-defense angle after the officers on the scene moved the gun was smart. Where it may have been when they arrived can't be proven, so it makes it more difficult for the prosecution to dispute the claim of self-defense.

@@cig35661 It's widely known that Muricans aren't always the sharpest tool in the box. For instance, the US is 146th in the World for literacy, just behind Zimbabwe and Zambia. However, trial by jury is something inherited from Britain under the system of Common Law. The right to be judged by your peers. The alternative is to be tried by a Judge or panel of Judges. Though trial by jury, isn't going away, any time soon. In the 12th century, Henry II took a major step in developing the jury system. Henry set up a system to resolve land disputes using juries. A jury of twelve free men were assigned to arbitrate in these disputes. And this is still what operates today.

His text messages showed his intention to harm her if she didn't obey She was not necessarily innocent but was found Not Guilty because her guilt was not proven beyond a reasonable doubt. If Steven had done nothing and the abuse was all hers, he wouldn't have stuck around long enough to get himself killed. He participated in the so-called "relationship". He one-upped her and threatened her with violence. That was obvious in his text messages. Maybe he just liked the drama. Ever think of that? We'll never know. Anway, the accused is convicted -- or not -- on evidence. The jury found reasonable doubt, which essentially means not enough evidence to convict.

I think he probably meant that she might have indeed killed him intentionally or by accident, but that the prosecution didn't prove their case by beyond a reasonable doubt. Our criminal justice system is designed to minimize the possibility of wrongly sending an innocent man to jail. In so doing, it acknowledges that there will be cases where truly guilty men walk free. It's a trade off, the lower the hurdle rate to send someone to jail, the more innocent people will end up in jail. The higher the hurdle rate to prevent innocent people from going to jail, the more guilty men will walk free. Which kind of society would you rather live in.
