The "Scramble for Africa" also had the welfare of people in mind. Their primary goal was to end slavery. Even Leopold had to agree to this before he was granted access to Congo.

@@tyresejackson2601 Nope. Leopold was nowhere near as bad as he was painted to be in fairy stories such as Leopold's Ghost, which many scholars like to cite as a reference. If you want to be disabused of the outlandish lies, then I recommend Gillie's book, or I could recommend a dozen contemporary accounts which would give you a better understanding of history. But Leopold was the worst of them, which is why I chose him as an example. I was referring to the intent rather than the outcome. For example in the Berlin conference of 1884, the signatories had to give undertakings about suppressing slavery, not taking slaves, humanitarianism etc. I disagree with colonialism in principle, even if it does benefit the colonized people in the short term.

Colonialism is all about transferring wealth from the colony to the colonizing power. For example, from India to Britain. Other countries besides Britain did pretty much the same thing.

This video isn’t history, it’s hypothetical (and also AI) Most of the video is structured around a nonsense argument that posits “maybe colonialism was better than the alternative”, but there simply is no historical alternative. Colonialism happened and is still happening. A good historian analyzes what actually happened, not alternatives that didn’t. But the video doesn’t analyze what actually went down under colonial regimes because the reality doesn’t fit in their argument. The only piece of evidence used to support this claim is a fictional testimony, an invention of the author to support his own claim.
