My cat Max went missing 6 years ago. He was chipped but I had lost the paperwork to know how to find him. I went to the shelters and local vets with no answers. I started getting Facebook messages saying I have your cat. It caught me off guard and being a woman I didn't know how to find out if it was him. Finally I messaged them back and went to see if he was there with my husband. As soon as I walked into this ladies house he heard my voice from outside. He came running into the house, jumped on the back of the chair purring and nuzzleing me. Then he got on my lap and put a paw on each shoulder letting it be known that I was his. I had him for 4 more years before he died from cancer. He was 14 years old. He chose me when he was a 8 week old kitten. i now have 3 calico kittens., all sisters. they just turned 1.

That’s where hubby and I found Shadow, our lovey kitty. She was the first cat I saw when we went to the local animal shelter. She was found homeless wandering around Leisure World, a senior housing community. We took her home that day and she’s been with us since April, 2024. She sleeps with us but really she sleeps by my feet. She’s now sleeping next to me on our sofa. Shadow bonded with me from day 1. It’s like she knew it was me who picked her. She’s a gray tabby who’s 2-3 yrs old. I love her so much. And she gives back her love to me 10x’s over.

If my boy got loose (he's an escape artist we do our best but every once in a blue moon he gets an outside day, hence him being spayed, chipped and has collar tags) and didn't come back in a few hours I'd be driving all over and hanging up fliers and visiting anywhere he might be and looking into online resources and just doing literally anything I could think of to find him. I don't think the owners really tried honestly.. barring something like chronic illness that would prevent going around looking for him, they would've had him back if they'd even called shelters in the area and asked about a cat with his description. The same thing happened with my cat. I found him and the first thing we did was check for a chip and then the shelter put out a found cat thing and we wanted him after the hold so we let them know and then we went out and put up found cat posters near every shelter in the area with the info on where he was. No one ever called. It took years for a neighbor to tell us it was common to dump cats I the area and we'd just lucked out and got him before the coyotes could. You're one of the top comments at the moment so I'm going to leave a tip about ID Tags vs Microchips, ID tags are great and Gerald could have been returned to their human immediately if he had one, but you can't lose a microchip like you could lose an ID tag on a collar, if not a collar entirely. Many city clinics will chip for $35 or so, which is about the cost of a collar and tag anyway. Register the microchip and bam! Proof of ownership that cannot fall off the animal

My husband must have been Air Tagged by the Cat Distribution System. He's rescued so many cats over the years, they used to come for us. Wild cat got a kitten with a nasty spider bite swollen paw, take it to those people, bang on the screen door at three am. Crawl into their car engine and yell bloody murder when the sun comes up, jump on them when they're hanging up laundry in the back yard. Just go have kittens in their back yard! We're on our last rescue cat, I swear! 2 weeks old, crawling with fleas, yelled at hubby to pick him up and take him home in the parking lot at work. He's 16 now and rules the house. Kittens need not apply. The last two attempts went to the no kill shelter and were adopted (they send out a congrats note to rescuers!). We broke the system! I think. 😂 Watch one show up tomorrow at 2 am. 😑

My grandparents, both in their 80s now, told me that they would not have another cat again. twice. now they're feeding the next stray that showed up and starting to coax him inside with food. they named him Peter but already use cutesy nicknames for him. we live 7 hours away and many friends and family are passing at their age so they get lonely and while they said they didn't want new cats, when they do get another one they always talk about them and how they bring joy into the house. there's just no retiring from the cat distribution system if it doesn't want you to 😂) edit: I love that they send a congrats, that's so nice. I'd definitely be following up on all our rescues, but we've managed to adopt all of our found cats and dogs out to loving homes ourselves, no shelters involved, so they are with friends or at least friends of friends and we get updates on everyone directly.

They were bottle babies and 3 of the one's found on a route, were siblings, not even three weeks old, so I bottle fed them too. We take them all to the vets and get them their wellness checks and inoculations. Our vet is awesome and gives us discounts and even freebies, including a free surgery for one of our babies, for her teeth. She seems pretty old, she's a baby rescued from our yard. I have no idea why people don't get their pets chipped! Someone lost out on a very sweet little boy because they didn't spend the insignificant amount of time and money to chip him. That's how I got my boy 10 years ago!

I've just had mine chipped and from my experience they'll chip at the sametime as doing a neuter/spay. Considering Gerald wasn't neutered tells me he most likely got out and got lost.
@andreacook74317 ай бұрын
One of my girls isn't. I got her as a kitten from some people and my vet wanted enough to chip her I could have either gotten her spayed or chipped. All my others came chipped from the shelters.

Sometimes it's an extra hundred bucks and if someone is poor they may choose not to. Since he wasn't neutered I'm guessing this was a "free kittens" situation. So it sounds like Gerald got to a better home than he left
@TheNomadicJamaican7 ай бұрын
@@RainAngel111 People seem to forget that there are people out there who may love their pets but can't afford to microchip them or spay/neuter them. Or, they are ignorant of these things and their benefits. To label pet owners who don't think and do the same as themselves doesn't help.

Jackson seems to have a great affinity with cats. He totally understands them. We have 4 cats, ourselves and they all get a lot of attention. We recently adopted 2 of them from the RSPCA shelter (that's what they call them here in Australia). They all get along really well. I'm really glad that Gerald has a happy life with you guys.

Hi Tony. I'm from Melbourne and have 2 rescue Cats. One 2.5 male called Olly. And a 2 year old little girl called Rocket. Olly was found with a badly broken leg, but they were able to save it. We adopted him from the Lort Smith Animal Hospital in December 2022. Poor little Rocket 🚀 wasn't so lucky. She lost her rear right leg. They thought that by the nature of the injury, she may have gotten hung by something. She still chases her brother around the house, and we've trained them to walk on harnesses out in the yard. I have a 15.5 year old miniature Dachshund that I rescued way back in 2013. Everyone gets along well. Just thought I'd say hello to another Aussie. 🇦🇺❤

I'm known as the cat lady off the neighborhood. I have been feeding 20 of my house cats and around 30 ferals. Before 2020 with help I managed to fix 21 ferals. I still feed them. At this time I'm feeding a kitten that is about 18 days old. I found him on the floor of my garage.

What a shame the original family did not find him (he had a collar!!). But nice that Gerald found a new loving home. Rescued cats are the best (sure, it can take them a bit of time to get over their trauma, but be patient). It is so rewarding, for them and for you. The rescue centre was concerned about my adoptee (two failed adoptions, and 8 months in the system), but she is now so loving and adorable. It was a slow and gentle road to get to this point, and I think she will blossom even more in time, but she is happy and settled, and loved of course. I let her pick me (oh don't remind me of the subtle rejections I got from other cats in shelter, even though I am a 'cat person' and 99% of cats love me - they know who they should be going home with). Always let the cat pick you! One of my previous rescue cats absolutely demanded that I take her home with me, I had little choice!

Wonderful story, I'm so happy for Gerald. Three years ago we had 2 kittens come out of the woods to the house crying so loud and scared. Now Champy and Nasha are great boy's that have added so much to our home. Three weeks ago we had another kitten come out of the woods and crying to get in the house. She's so sweet and loving I named her Precious. Just got her spayed and we're in the process of introducing her to the boys. People around my area frequently dump cats off in the forest. The one's that find their way to the house find a forever home.

My cat found me. He was a neighborhood cat. People took him in, but none took him to the vet. We had seen pictures of him on the Nextdoor App for our neighborhood, but one night he came to our house. My daughter and I fell in love with him he was so sweet and loving. We decided to keep him. Took him to a vet for his conjunctivitis. My daughter took him to TCAP (Texas Coalition for Animal Protection) to have him neutered and vaccinated and chipped. He follows me around and wants to be with me, no matter where I am. He is about a year old, and our biggest problem with him, is that he likes to bite. We've had him less than a month.

A happy ending for this Cat! Yay! I’ve been taking in strays for 52 yrs & all on my own funds( we don’t have a no-kill shelter here) I’ve found homes for most & adoted some that weren’t adoptable due to age or health issues & also other great Cats/Kittens-even whole litters!( like my Manx family that I didn’t want to see abused for shows or breeding! I’m 69 now so not as much $ to help them, but I still will if they need it. It’s the best thing I can do as a former RN & a life spent owned by Cats!😺♥️🐈⬛

I am so glad that you helped him find a forever home. I can't go to the local shelter, I keep taking in cats from outside. I have gotten two feral cats taken in since November. They were too sweet to leave out on their own. The prior cat before that was a stray that followed my son home from the post office, he had a brother with him that we unfortunately lost a few years ago to a lung infection.

So last night I heard meowing outside and thought it was the stray that we feed. Nope it was a kitten stuck inside my engine bay of my car. Had to remove my wheel and pull him out. Immediately he started purring and rubbing on me. I was adopted. The crazy thing is I’ve been wanting a cat bc I’ve been dealing with my anxiety over the last few years. It’s been hard to work through things in therapy. I truly think this kitten was sent to me. So happy 😁

My little house panther was found and even micro chipped. But her previous humans changed their information and didn't register with the micro chipping company. As a result, she sat in the shelter for nearly 2 months. To top it off, she was 8 years old, so very few people wanted her. When I got her home, I gave her 2 cuddles for every day that she was in the shelter. She was a little skittish when I first brought her home, but she was also very social. After a while, she came to realize that attention wasn't always negative, and she became, what I called, a FOMO kitty. Maybe Gerald is better off in his new home. While his previous owners bothered giving him a collar, they didn't seem to bother getting him fixed.

I was kind of surprised to see them do all the vaccinations right away before the hold was over. If the owner came forward and it turned out he already had all his shots, would it have been OK that he had them twice? I'm glad he has a happy & safe home now. Wonder how he ended up outside where he was, but with a collar.

All of my cats are rescues. My ex liked the kittens but I go for the adult cats. Partly because they're harder to place but also my house is in No Way kitten proof. Merlin was 4 when he adopted me, Nica was 4ish, Sylvie was 10. The current crop are Paprika, adopted at 4 and now 9, and Holly, adopted at 8 and now 13. Opinionated and spoiled, and so are the cats. My overlords purr. Beautiful story, Jackson.

Someone took my cat a couple of years ago, she was allergic to collars and went missing the morning she was going to get microchipped. Sometimes if they look well cared for it’s best to leave them alone. I was so depressed at that time I just sat in bed crying for a long time.

I live alone in my 2 story New England house and I have 2 "Strays" living here. The "Mamacita" of the house, Sheena, who basically runs things, and my Feral boy "Damien" that I finally (after 15 months!) got to a point that he likes to be touched and petted. They're both all black. She's a gorgeous long-hair and he's a sleek shorthair parlor panther. I got her from Defenders Of Animals when Covid took her owner and Damien. was at my local shelter. He'd been found by animal rescue trapped in a dumpster while scavenging for food. I got him first, then her to. help him socialise and keep him entertained. They're the best. He LOVES her too. It's funny to watch him swoon over her.. So yes, adopt. You'll likely save a life and make yours so much better.
