Re: Falling unconscious from damage 1. If the attack brings you to 0 hit points, AND the remaining damage is equal to or exceeds your current maximum hit points, you're dead. 2. If the attack doesn't kill you as per rule 1, you are "unconscious" at 0 hit points. 3. At the TOP of your turn, you roll a death saving throw: 1-9 equals one failed death saving throw; 10-20 equals a successful death saving throw. 4. If you are attacked while unconscious, then you gain one failed death saving throw; attacks within 5 ft. of you are automatic critical hits, AND they count as two failed death saving throws. Additionally, if any damage taken while unconscious equals to or exceeds your maximum hit points, you're dead. Otherwise, refer to rule 3. 5. If you accumulate 3 failed death saving throws before 3 successful ones, you're dead. If the opposite is correct, you are stable and will wake up with 1 hit point in 1d4 hours, unless you are healed by other means. Rolling a 1 on a death saving throw equals 2 failed death saving throw; if you roll a 20, you regain 1 hit point and are conscious again. Hope this helped.

During the end, as soon as Matt described them as having mechanical components inside I was so frantically going "please, someone have heat metal! *Please!"* because that would have fuuuuucked up all the components inside them. Different metals have different thermal expansion coefficients, springs would be hooped, oils and grease have an optimal temperature range for their purposes AND their outer shell was ceramic so that heat would have been insulated inside them! Then you could have had it to where they needed to like open up their skin to vent the heat giving an opportunity to get up in there... That's all probably outside the scope of D&D to consider but studying to be a mechanical engineer, I can't help myself. XP

As per suggestion, for the curious. Crawford says: "Verbal components are mystic words (PH, 203). The spell’s suggestion is a separate, intelligible utterance."
@shinniehildebrand5 жыл бұрын
Actually, the exact wording in the PHB is "Most spells require the chanting of mystic words. The words themselves aren't the source of the spell's power; rather, the particular combination of sounds, with specific pitch and resonance, sets the threads of magic in motion. Thus, a character who is gagged or in an area of silence, such as one created by the silence spell, can't cast a spell with a verbal component." Which means, MOST spells have some special mystic words but as the words themselves aren't the source of power but the way they sound and the order and pitch, the Suggestion spell Verbal component could be as simple as "I suggest" said in a certain way followed by the actual suggestion. At which point it is subtle and unless the person knows the Suggestion spell and how it works I'd argue (as a GM) that they won't know it was cast. Not to mention that the Material component for Suggestion can be replaced by a spell focus.
@Alex-fn2hl5 жыл бұрын
@@shinniehildebrand, I'm just repeating what Crawford says. I would argue, however, that the 'most spells' refers to 'all spells with verbal components', which is indeed most spells. I think it's reasonable to say that you can't disguise verbal components of spells as part of regular speech, though I'd prefer a more specific ruling in the book proper.
@shinniehildebrand5 жыл бұрын
@@Alex-fn2hl Of course, there is always the difference between RAW (Rules As Written) and RAI (Rules As Intended). However, there is also the ages old golden rule of D&D that says: whatever you guys find fun, just go and do it as long as everyone's happy. It's ultimately up to the GM. I personally treat Suggestion as a very subtle thing. Just like the surface thought reading of Detect Thoughts. But other GMs may rule that the caster speaks a few mystical words and THEN speaks the suggestion, similar to Command. I prefer the subtle version because I like seeing the player trying to integrate it naturally into their IC speech.

@24:00 The Primeval Thule campaign setting (by Sasquatch Games) actually advises DMs to hand out XP for treasure. It's a heavily pulp-inspired setting (drawing particular inspiration from Robert E Howard's stuff) and the idea is to encourage the players to be very acquisitive and greedy in their outlook. Which is really the key thing: XP is pretty much the most valuable thing in the game. Players will tend to pursue that which grants XP. If you want your players to favour a certain style of play, give them XP for it. This is why most modern DMs make sure they hand out the same XP for resolving an encounter using social interaction or creative thinking as they would for resolving it with brute force.

Invoke authority as an action works really well. If I understand it correctly, it allows you to cast action spells as a bonus action until the end of your next round. That means you can do the following: Action 1: Invoke Authority BA 1: Action spell as BA A 2: Non-spell action (say, attack) BA 2: Action spell as BA You get to take an extra casting action overall. The only way it doesn't work is if you want to attack every turn.

Thanks for the episode. Slim gets ever more interesting. Looking forward to them getting thrown out of their Inn. Also the reporter was a really nice trick. Just some rule things: 1. Paladins do not get ritual casting, so i think Illrigger does not get it either. 2. Jump lasts for a minute. 3. Shoving does only consume one of your attacks, same as the grapple. 4. Hex requires concentration. (I may have gotten this wrong, but Anna had it up on two creatures?) 5. Technically fall damage is 1d6 per 10 feet, but i like Matts rule much more, since it makes falling damage a much more dangerous thing. 6. Maybe Tom does not know that you do not need advantage to get your sneak attack. It sometimes seems that way.

@Dooley Versus I agree with these statements. I was talking in more of a narrative mindset. We have seen this cast of characters change at a rate that would have made a tabletop wargamer make a roll for group morale. The core of my statement was about the way which the people at the table, like you also see, have a group dynamic, but I would think that the characters' group dynamic to be a little different. This falls under the way that RPGs are game we play with those at the table and not a controlled fiction i.e. movie, book.

Some rules questions and comments, as of my having watched through around three and a half hours in, without respect to corrections or rulings from later in the episode: Did Phil double the dice from using Menacing Strike on his crit? If not, he should. Fall damage is generally 1d6 per 10 feet, capped at... 20d6 IIRC. Swapping an attack for a shove, when done as part of an Attack Action with the Extra Attack feature (or as part of a Multiattack Action) only replaces a single attack, so you can do multiple shoves, or a mix of shoves and attacks. This is especially important for Fighters with Action Surge and Extra Attack. Edit from c. 3:46, HP stops at 0. It never goes negative. But if you take a single hit that does as much or more damage as your total HP after it reduces you to 0 then you die instantly. Otherwise it's just knocking you unconscious (if it drops you to 0) or causing automatic death save failures (1 if it's a ranged hit, 2 due to automatically critically hitting if within 5 feet). Edit 2 c 4:30: Apparently magic missile has been ruled to only roll a single die and then apply it to each missile. This has implications for some abilities (such as Wizard things that add damage to one damage roll), but it's also one of the most ignored rules because it's simply more fun to roll each missile separately.

I suddenly and delightfully noticed the Fiend Folio behind Phil's head... with a githyanki just staring at the back of his head.

I agree that CR S2 had a slow start, but it's much better now.

It panders to audience demand more than s1, and everyone is trying to have an arc as dramatic as percy

yep, I still like CR, but the second campaign is way worse than the first one.

I feel like the CR season 2 lacks of things that the CR campaign 1 and The Chain have. In the Matt Colville world i can sense the danger for every PC (Hell we lost most of the original Chain members) and with the CR campaign 2 history i don't feel like the world is in war at all. And also ''The Mighty Nein'' don't have a main objective (here the objective is rebuild The Chain) and is making weak the story because is a group that goes random with no goal to be together. More than 50 eps and i don't remember any memorable arc or villain (maybe the dragon was the most dramatic one) in the history this far.. If you compare that with the CR campaign 1 and the Briarwoods arc or with the ep 1 of The Chain with the fall of them and the apparence of the main villain well you will understand why people feel like the campaign 2 is the worst or not interesting.

Watched 52 episodes of CR and it didn't get better - I was really hopeful. The plot armor is so strong that the characters feel they can do anything without any repurcussions - the stealing a ship and murdering an entire dock of officers was the start of a slippery slope into a complete loss of emersion. Slap to the face was returning to the docks without anyone so much as blinking. The Chain just feels alive.

During the chase skill challenge, if I were Copper I would tell Matt, "I lean forward in my saddle on big cat, whisper in his ear in Goblin. . . . Thruck (HIM). And big cat gets down low and Purrs (it sounds like a crocodile's below) and the he leaps after the thief. I'd roll Animal Handling check.

If I take away one thing from this episode, it's that sausage dipped in caramel actually sounds pretty damn good.
