I don’t feel the same with Part 2 I enjoyed the first half of the first arc until Fakesawman appeared, to me the story took a deep dive until the falling devil arc which was kinda cool. Nowadays I feel that the story doesn’t have a clear objective like part one had with the Gun Devil. I’ll keep reading it but if a part three happens I probably won’t be reading it.

I agree with the art point but hard disagree on the writing point. The problem with your analysis is you are analyzing it in “arc” terms but there are not arcs proper in the sense of other series. It is one long story. All the aspects of the past chapters are always in play. This makes it basically incomprehensible as a weekly read, because everything is building to one final payoff. The falling arc is a build to the church is a build to the raid is a build to this sushi arc is a build to the next is a build to the conclusion. There won’t be catharsis until it all comes crashing down. This is not how people write usually because, well, if you don’t give people some intermittent satisfaction, they’ll walk away. But I’m locked the fuck in.

When I was reading part 2 weekly I wasn't into it as much as I wanted. I still looked forward to the next chapter but something felt off. Upon taking a break and binging from the beginning, I loved it. Part 2 is just different to part 1. In fact, it's different to not only other shounen manga but manga in general. Manga are typically separated into arcs, cause its easier that way. It's hard to tell a single narrative over many years. Part 2 is a singular narrative that isn't separated into arcs. There aren't the climaxes you'd typically get in a story arc structure. Characters don't have their character development completed in the middle of the manga. It changes over the course of the entire manga, and that could be said for Asa and denji. BTW, it's actually incredible that fujimoto is able to bring in a new protagonist where denji has to share screen time with. I can't even think of another story where that happened. Maybe Game of thrones but seaaon 1 was developing other characters. Asa came in and took much of the spotlight and everyone loves her. The new villain (forgot his name) from the church is a great villain. His actions are comprehensible and very diabolical. He brought out a side of denji that we haven't seen. He's so detestable due to what he did to nayuta (which shows that fujimoto did nayuats and denjis relationship perfectly) and has such a presences when he's on screen. I really do like the church arc the more I think about it. It's kinda a deconstruction on superheros. Instead of the hero placing their values, instead the fans forced their values onto chainsaw man. Disfiguring what chainsaw man is about. which frankly is simple, but I think there's something there. It's just another way on controlling him. Where not only can his actions be controlled but his whole identity. It's why he had such a reaction to the TV screen, cause he's being controlled which any contact. Nailing Denji's and Asa's character was 80% of the battle to make part 2 good and fujimoto is doing just that. Fuck, I'm liking part 2 the more I think about it.
@scorpee6845 ай бұрын
i defenitely think the high paced abrupt style of story telling in part 1 is absent in part 2, something im sure got many fans hooked on the manga. but i think part 2 still brings a lot of new and interesting elements, it's more of a slow burn style, with more intricate dialouge and character dynamics i suppose. besides it'll take time for part 2 to build up momentum again after the ending of part 1, its naturally gonna feel a bit lackluster compared to the endgame of part 1. i would've liked to see more callbacks to part 1, wheres power ?? what about kishibe ?? kobeni ?? but overall i still think part 2 is different, but still entertaining.

Ultimately you bring many good points and what should have really ramped up CSM part 2 post Falling Devil arc, has faltered or have been lackluster. I'd say "Aimless" an a very apt way of putting it. There are numerous moments in the story post-Falling Devil where the story just seems to lifelessly drag itself along. It's not as exciting as it used to be, or as funny as it used to be, or as good looking as it used to be, all current Chainsaw Man has going for it right now is drama and even that feels handicapped by the lack of investment I have in the current cast of characters. The stakes are higher than ever, and despite that I'm nowhere near as interested. I don't hate Part 2, and I don't think Fujimoto's fallen off or anything like that, but if I'm being completely honest I think the ending to Part 1 could have been THE ending to Chainsaw Man and it would have been just fine.

Man, this video is a huge miss for me. But props for being honest with how you feel about it. I wonder if a reread would help? I think the church arc is great, I think the focus on Denji not being able to transform WAS some extreme justice. I think Barem is a genuinely super fun villian, with incredible dialogue and a real dramatic presence whenever he’s on screen. I think Denji and Nayuta’s relationship is beautiful and that all the subtle storytelling through the art, in their apartment, and in their mannerisms together display a bond better than words could. I think the rescue Denji arc was a little weak personally, but upon re-read, it’s light-heartedness is a nice break between how depressing all the story surrounding it was. And the current content is extremely strong as well, though I don’t think it’s fair to bring it up. Since it came out after this vid. Either way, I’d love to hear what you think after a re-read. Or how you are feeling about the manga now. Thanks for the vid, even if I strongly disagree

I really enjoyed this video, but want to share that I still really love chainsaw man part 2 lol Denji and Asa's relationship whether it ends up good or bad, is a dynamic that always kept me invested and I love the slower, yet more character driven feel of part 2 even though like you said some arcs don't always do much for certain characters like the raid for Asa. I actually prefer the pacing of part 2, idk something about it feels very controlled and I love how every chapter has unique set up and makes every chapter feel like a definded segment of an arc unlike chapters of other manga that simply just pick up where the last chapter left off. If you don't know what I'm talking about Shonen Ouji talks about this in depth in his 'What Chainsaw Man Does BETTER Than Jujutsu Kaisen' Video. There are certain aspects of the story that admittedly i don't feel too strongly about like the fami stuff and all that, but I feel like part 2 doesn't spend too long on certain plot points and I always feel like chapters will transition into the next thing or story beat pretty smoothly. I'm extremely excited for the upcoming chapters genuinely As for characters or gags you don't like, there's not much of a defense I have for them. I like them just fine or at worst just am unbothered by them. I genuinely don't feel bothered by any of the narrative or character decisions Part 2 has made up to this point, but to each their own. Two points that I think I can't deny tho are that the chapter release schedule is causing fatigue and that the art has honestly gotten worse. Especially the presentation, like damn I can't hear to music to most of these scenes tbh they don't have that cinematic feel. But yeh that's what I think

I think I agree with your points on Part 2’s (or the second half of it really), in a way that’s more objective than I usually see. Seeing the art back-to-back definitely kinda opened my eyes to it. Art and chapter pacing/content are the main problems. One of the biggest things about Chainsaw Man is that it functions best on a binge, and the weekly format obviously doesn’t help. They work hand-in-hand, and really fall short. I wish Fujimoto did it like Sui Ishida with Choujin X, releasing chapters on his own schedule with more progression and solid art. All that said, in terms of writing I’m…satisfied. Not bewildered like Part 1, but definitely not asking for too much more. I’ve always liked fictional stories that feel grounded, street level, and mopey…and that’s exactly how it feels now. Im also an art/writing geek, and Fujimoto’s rough style kinda feels like I’m watching a friend work his craft or something. As somebody who aspires to do the same, even if he’s not at his best, I love Chainsaw Man all the same… …and I hope the best for its author.

CSM part 1 was an easy 9/10 While CSM part 2 is a 7/10 so far. What made part 1 so good was the fast pace story, likable side characters, great antagonists, better artstyle, chaotic fights, and decent worldbuilding and lore info while with part 2 it lacks all of these good qualities because fujimoto is spending all of his energy focusing on denji and asa instead of other aspects like making good side characters or making good antagonists and ever since the falling devil arc we haven’t seen any good action even during arcs where we could have such as the prison break arc to show off how much better Asa and Yoru have improved but fujimoto instead drew “fights” that lasted only a few panels at most with a bit of comedy that honestly felt mediocre and the arc as a whole felt a bit wasted cuz of how short it and with how Asa’s reaction to denji being chainsaw man feeling underwhelming.

its really hard making people care about new characters after the ones people loved are gone forever, reminds me of the MCU and how it just basically fell off after End Game, only character worth saving from Part 2 is Asa/Yoru and i honestly think Fujimoto couldve written a whole other manga with Asa and it wouldve been better.

I'll prolly reread part 2 when it finishes but for now I think it's like a 6/10. I think its really only been recent arcs that have been kind of a slog for me but I trust fujimoto to pick it back up. Ch. 168 was good and I hope it's only up from here

It's pacing confuses me to an endlessly unbearable degree-- A LOT happens that should be very plot important such as: Denji and Nayuta's argument and all of the fights that break out from Barem, Denji's pets dying, Asa VS Yoshida, the public completely turning on Chainsaw Man, almost entirely ruin Denji and Asa's relationship and even introducing who the final villain is going to be is all really big news and things we should care about. Yet... it's pacing manages to still feel sluggish and its characters outside Denji, Asa and Nayuta haven't really changed much which makes me feel very unmotivated to read its current arcs. Which sucks because I loved Part 2 at first with all of its early stories and ideas but now it feels like a challenge to go through And before people tell me about how reading it all at once will feel better I already have, I caught up to Part 2 not even that long ago and it was during the Church arc

I dont think people are paying attention at all to part 2. Barem and Fami are both really incredible villains, on track to being on par with Makima. I also don't think the art has dropped in quality save for some minor inconsistencies, but chapter 152 was one of my fave chapters to come out recently. Denji sawing himself in half along with spear before chowing down on him was AURA idc what anyone says.

I think people expect something very different from fujimoto than anything he has actually delivered. Fights are always just set pieces to Fuji, and slow burn character work is kinda his forte. The series will never have the pacing of an big battle shounen like JJK. While yes, this part is significantly slower than part 1, everything is super cohesive on a binge and we're nowhere near the end. I think dedicating yourself to a long form story in a weekly medium, then calling that story disappointing because it hasn't reached its climax halfway through is just kinda ridiculous.

So I've been off the chainsaw man story for like 50 chapters and I recently re read the entirety of part 2. To me it never really felt incoherent, binging it was definitely better than waiting every week, it flowed a lot more as a story and I enjoyed it a lot. I can definitely say that the characters aren't as compelling, the only interesting dynamic with the hybrids was sword mad and human decisions. I wish Fugi did more with them. I have enjoyed it but there are some pretty big flaws. I do worry for how the story is going, but no matter what happens Chainsaw Man will forever be my favorite manga

Honestly after today's chapter I can't keep giving Fujimoto the benefit of the doubt CSM part 1 was my favorite modern manga for the longest (recently JJK overtook that) but Part 2 is just losing it for me especially once the Falling Devil stuff ended, after that it just went down in my opinion, made very prominent once I realized it's almost surpassed the length of part 1 just 12 chapters shy.

Since no one is gonna read an entire essay that I would type here I’m just gonna say some of these takes feel disingenuous. Comparing two random panels(the yoru ones) is an example of that.
@BrokenRonin7 күн бұрын
Comparing 2 random panels is the entirety of my point. Fujimoto didn't suddenly lose his ability to draw, but GENERALLY the manga looks worse
@justasinglesummon39127 күн бұрын
@ I know, but you can also take a good drawing from part 2 and put it next to a bad drawing from part 1 and say he improved. There isn’t really a lot of credibility when comparing two random panels. Especially when one of the drawings is visibly meant for a smaller part of the panel compared to the “better one” from part 1. Now this may sound like I disagree with your take on his art declining but I actually mostly agree. I just thought your point would be stronger when giving more context in the comparison.
@BrokenRonin7 күн бұрын
@@justasinglesummon3912 If the climax of a battle that is capping off an arc in the manga (denji vs a bunch of fiends) constitutes "random" then so be it, but I'm not cherry picking for my argument. In any case, the feedback is appreciated it.
