Using the argument that drones can carry bombs is like banning pockets because they can carry guns.

Criminals, drug dealers, poachers and terrorists etc. really don't care about regulations. Regulations should be there to keep manned air flight as well as the general population below the drones safe.

No technology comes without risk, and being risk averse will make Kenya not realize the advantages of drone technology. The uses of drones far outweigh the negatives associated with them because their use impact many sectors across the economy. If the minds of regulators are stuck on a bad guy using the drone and therefore resulting to draconian regulations, then the winners are the bad guys. Average Kenyans will be losers. Keep in mind a bad guy who has the ability to acquire such a bomb will have an easy time acquiring a drone. Embrace the technology and let Kenyans show us their potential through their eyes.

The fees by KCAA are ridiculous

Those fee are just ridiculous. I'm living in South East Asia and you can buy drone in simple supermarket for equivalent of 8k Kshs. Its just a toy and Kenya like taxing everything indirectly... There is a place they are prohibited and we go with in most of the places ...yes we have categories and even a small drown which looks like a mobile phone for selfies. They should have different classes of drones . We don't refuse it can cause some security threat if it's a big drone but most are just small drones which can't do anything .

Registration and operation of drones should be free. Regulations should be focused on safety, not milking drone owners.

The fees imposed on the permitting drones in Kenya are prohibitive. In the US, there are regulations for recreational hobbyists and for commercial uses. The main purpose of the regulations in the US is to ensure the safety of manned aircraft as well as the safety of people below. The new drone regulations and Remote ID requirements and low registration fees make it possible for both recreational and commercial drone pilots to be educated and their drones to be registered and identifiable.

Regulation is okay by most of interested parties but the picture portrayed by the Aviation authorities has already turnish the whole positive side of these technology.. have been working on the software part of a drone for 6 months now and it has so many advantage possibilities which can help out in many fields in this country. So let's focus of the positive side which literally outweighs the negative ones.

why should i pay the fee,and the technology is still growing out there and the govt hasn't done enough to support the youth or create institution that will properly help buyers to understand drones. flying a drone is fun and can help in the community acting as watch dog....

This is really stupid, drones have more advantages to our economy than disadvantages. These politicians are ignorant, stupid and greedy. They should take the time to understand what exactly these drones can do instead of quickly jumping to conclusions.

Mwaniki Mageria is very ignorant on drone matters. Not everyone buys a drone to make money off of it, just like not everyone buys a camera to make money.

@@vincentokello738 Here in the US online training for a recreational drone is free. The registration for all recreational drones is $5.00USD. The commercial fees for the training, license and registration is a bit more. Those proposed fees in Kenya are incredible.
