I have all IGEM 11/13 TB's up to date. How many installers bother to do the same? So your post is so important, and that's why you go to the lengths you do to update and inform installers. I would say that ultimately gas meter inlet/outlet operating pressures are but a part of determining the safe operation of appliances, accurate gas rating is essential.

Great video as usual! Be great to hear your thoughts/a video on new guidance for reacting to Co alarm going off. Is it now required that Emergency service has to attend? Is there still scope for engineers to judge it was most likely a faulty alarm and replace it?

Hiya Derek. Has there been any new alterations since this video. The reason i ask. Yesterday, servicing a boiler. I checked the working pressure at the meter. 16mbar with a hot tap on full. I hadn't even put the fire or the range cooker on yet. Cadent came out. Fair enough they put on all of the appliances and the hot tap. The reading was obviously low. Cadent s response. We will wait a few minutes to let the boiler stabilise. Ok. After 3 or 4 minutes when the hot tap is almost boiling in the sink and the boiler is modulating down to accommodate this, hey presto, he managed to get the 18.5 at the meter. I argued that you have just waited for the boiler to module right down and it is now nowhere near at its maximum capacity. He said thats what they do and left. I tested again after he left and the boiler had cooled down. 16mbar with no fire or range on. I then phoned gas safe later when i got home hoping for a sympathetic ear and that is not what I got. All i got was. I need to understand the igem g13 and that it all depends what you are doing, whether it is a service, commission etc. He said the boiler (it was a 5 year old Vaillant combi) shouldn't modulate down if it is sized correctly and if the boiler was doing that it was wrong for the house. I will admit, the boiler was oversized in terms of kw for the flow rate of the tap. However i went to a 28kw Vaillant today and after the tap had been left on long enough it modulated down. I said to gas safe it would be impossible to size a boiler so accurately that it never modulated down with the hot tap running. I said to gas safe if the water pressure was particularly high there and it hadn't modulated down at all, then the gas pressure was far to low. He then said ignore the 18.5 mbar. There are 2 numbers and the other number regarding whether the gas pressure is safe or not and the 18.5 isnt it. He actually stated if you phone the boiler manufacturer and ask for the safe figure, it will potentially be as low as 9 mbar at the meter. Big long message i know. Im making my own little video of the experience but wondered if you could shed any light on this. Ive always called Cadent at anything towards 18 mbar. Is it actually worth it if you can just leave the boiler on for so long its at 50% of its capacity. Cheers mate and im still wanting to book my un vented cylinder course, i ve just been busy but will come and do it at some point 👍

@@northwestgascertificates it seams it’s all about the safe operation of the appliances. If they stay lit with the biggest appliance on full and the others on 50% they don’t seam to care. Igem/g/13 says if it’s reported they have to investigate it but doesn’t say they have to sort it out. Basically you have done your bit it’s now down to Cadent to do theirs if they deem it necessary.
@northwestgascertificates2 ай бұрын
@@tomkatgastraining very true. Gas safe said that as well. "You ve told Cadent. You ve done your job, Its on them, stop worrying about it" 🤣 Im still convinced there is a supply issue. All the pressures seem low and they will do anything to avoid dealing with it. Or they haven't got the money/ man power to deal with insufficient external gas piping. Anyway im going to sleep well tonight, it actually woke me up last night thinking about it 🤣🤦♂️

Can you tell me if an external Gas Meter box should be replaced or repaired if an extra knock-out hole for the gas entry has been removed but the hole is not used and left blank? I note the Gas Safe Register says holes bigger than 10mm should result in the box being replaced. But what if this defect has not been picked up until the purchaser takes possession? Should the gas meter be disconnected temporarily to allow a new box to be installed or is it acceptable to put a plastic patch over the knocked-out hole?
@shaunfoley46922 жыл бұрын
as far as im aware the repair of a 10mm hole is for a box built into a cavity wall where it is directly terminated within the cavity, a hole at the front of a box in the allocated cut out wouldn't require a repair or exchange as it hasnt damaged the integrity of the box
@shaunfoley46922 жыл бұрын
and more importantly wouldn't allow gas into the cavity if there is a leak within the meterbox
@Elfin42 жыл бұрын
@@shaunfoley4692 Yes but it would also allow pests an entry point into the box
@shaunfoley46922 жыл бұрын
@@Elfin4 nothing a bit of non setting compound cant stop my friend, cant say ive seen anything to suggest we need to take potential pests into account with regards to meterboxes, certainly not to extend that it requires changing for safety reasons but by all means keep asking, bs 6400 is for meter installation and i think bs 8499 (could be wrong) for meter box standards, maybe they might shed more light
@martinwright70932 жыл бұрын
It’s not completely clear to me what is meant by integrity of the box. If the door keeps blowing off in the wind or the door is missing is this an AR situation? Similarly an unused hole to outside. Replacing a built in box is not always straitforward.

Great video once again , although you say the GT will have to do something about low pressure,I like your optimism here,it's not what the document suggests . Supply requires further investigation. The GT will recommend the best course of action working in conjunction with the RGE to pragmatically address the situation and explain this to the customer/RGE with associated timescale. Looks like they can still go ,nah nothing to see here ,move on .

Great went to a service yesterday. Never done it before and it is its 1st service. 19.7 working and 16.2 at the inlet of the ideal instinct 2. Guess what in the Benchmark the installer has claimed inlet pressure as 20mbar so definately telling porkies here. Ideal say they would be OK with it but if it breaks down and the issue is with pressure the guarantee is void.
@shaunconnor75252 жыл бұрын
How does that make sense ? They say there fine with it but they wont cover it on warranty thats total bullshit
@paulgannon32612 жыл бұрын
@@shaunconnor7525 I agree they should say no ID it as it is not performing as per MIs but you know I have had that much aggro this year with registered installers and what they leave. 44 years in the trade is long enough and standards are not getting better even ACS has made no difference.
