You know, when you listened to songs such as this one, the Devil went down to Georgia, Still in Saigon, and others, the morals that are in the songs are truly a blessing and a warning about punishment for doing wrong, as evidenced by the words of this song.

@Rustyknife Actually, he could do both! And...he managed to keep his music simple. The man was the truest definition of the word legend.

This song used to scare the shit out of me when I was a kid in like 79, 80 era. Thank you Mr Daniels, for the image of the story that I created in my mind because of this song. Thank you for everything

It scared th' fire outta me, too, the first time I heard it! It made ya feel like death was comin' straight at'cha, especially when you heard the line about them mean boys gettin' caught in the quicksand, and then that line about Ol' Alucius Clay laughin' in a voice that sounded like Thunder! This song definitely ain't for none of them sissified soyboys out there....and that's for sure!!!!!

RIP Charlie Daniels of The Charlie Daniels Band. You know-🎻 🎶 The Devil Went Down To Georgia 🎻 🎶 guy. Now, I am not a huge country and western fan. Growing up in Montana disabused me of much of that. However, my first single 7" record in the late 70s or early 80s? The Legend of Wooley Swamp by The Charlie Daniels Band.

I love it, too! I especially love the lyrics in this song. Those lyrics make me feel like I'm right there, watching the whole story unfold, right before my very eyes. I can only imagine how Alucius Clay must've felt, as he was dying at the hands of these evil men...and I can only imagine, again, as those boys feel Death tugging at their heels...and then at their entire bodies, as the quicksand that they accidentally ran into in the dark, sucked them down! I know that it's just a song, but man, it's still very powerful to listen to, and, as you're listening to it, you can almost feel the terror that those boys felt, as they knew that their next stop, after being sucked under by the quicksand, was Hell itself! Charlie Daniels was a Christian, and he incorporated a lot of Bible lessons like this, into his music. May he Rest In Peace and Power! ✝️✝️✝️

As a 9 year old kid Full Moon Fever and LedZeppelin 2 were the first two albums I ever bought and both got equal and constant rotational play on my old record player. The vivid imagery of this song along with living in Louisiana in bayou country all my life permanently made an indelible impression on my musical growth and love for great music . Charlie Daniels was a true OG that bridged the gap between real country and rock as well as not being afraid to speak his mind in being not PC and speaking truth regardless of what people think . God bless you Charlie , RIP and you will always have a permanent place in my heart for great music and my sonic rotation of music 👍🏻🙏🤘🏻

Oh I agree with you. I sincerely hated his passing. Then I got really pissed off when I heard him on my local country music station. Why was I upset??? Hadn't heard him on radio in 20 yrs, then as soon as a legend passed, those panty wastes started playing his music again. WHY DID HE HAVE TO PASS ON JUST TO GET PLAYED ON THE RADIO.

I love everything about this song, but one of my favorite lines is “there’s things out there in the middle of them woods make a strong man die of fright”. That adds a whole nother level of scary to it, picturing a tough, good old boy scared out of his mind by the sounds and creepy things around him. I’ve actually had the same thing happen to me (I guess I consider myself a strong man), hiking McClintic Wildlife Area swamp at dawn, look it up. Very creepy place.

Music-With a very stern and strong message to it. Them there boys murdered Alucius Clay, but got themselves punished in a way that they never expected! Runnin' into a big ol' patch of quicksand...in the dark...can you imagine the sheer terror those boys felt? Even though this is "just a song" to some folks, it's a very dark, and very fearful warning, to those who even think of doing some dastardly deed to somebody else. No matter who it is, you'd better reconsider what you're about to do. The consequences could be deadly...and permanent!
