seeing this video really made it clear why the devil lost. half of the devils turn in the fiddle contest wasnt even fiddle playing, its just the devil standing there and holding the fiddle while the demon band plays non fiddle instruments

Its like the end of Pick of Destiny when the boys challenge the devil to a "rock off", the devil accepts and plays heavy metal because its his favorite music and loses because the challenge was contractually for a "rock off", not a "metal off". His own hubris made him lose.

I’ve said the same to others. The Devil needed a band to sound awesome, Johnny was awesome by himself.

How beautifully fitting is it that, when performing the song about Human Heart and Soul beating pure mechanical technical precision, he makes a small mistake, just rolls with it, and the performance winds up amazing.

Is it just me, or is there something about how he plays the fiddle that gives you goosebumps. Whatever the case may be, he was a legend, and just like the rest of the greats, he will go down in history as one of the ones who pave the way for all country artists who came after.

How does no one give him an award for keeping that gum in his mouth with this song and all the while playing the fiddle. Wow! What a humble and one of a kind performer!

Holy crap! What a great bunch of musicians behind ol' Charlie. They followed his lead flawlessly! Wow. Very impressed.

While I'm not a big fan of country music in general, listening to Charlie Daniels is always a real treat! He just has this knack for getting down to the nitty gritty and playing his heart and soul out for the crowd. As a musician myself, I can and do respect that, no matter what kind of music you happen to play.♥️
@That70sGuitarist Жыл бұрын
@konkeydong9893 And you're welcome to it. Personally, I'd much rather listen to rock or blues any day of the week. You *do* know what happens when you play a country song backwards, right? You get your wife back, you get your truck back, you get your dog back, you get your house back...🤣
@That70sGuitarist Жыл бұрын
@konkeydong9893 Yeah, I'll be playing (and listening to) oldies rock n' roll/classic rock/hard rock/Southern rock and some sweet, wailin' blues 'till I finally join that "great gig in the sky." I may be a relative unknown (outside of a few areas in Canada and Ireland, that is), but I reckon once they hear me play, they're sure to let me get in on the jam.😉 This, by the bye, is the *only* country song I ever actually liked; "Well, I was drunk the day my Mama got out of prison, "An' I drove my pickup through the rain, "But before I could get to the station, "My Mama got hit by a train!"🤣

Yup, probably a little too much Jack Daniels before the set. But he made up for it when he played the fiddle. I'm not much of a fan of this kind of music but I can not help but be mesmerized by his talent on that instrument. Makes me want to learn to play the fiddle.

I was at this concert.... CDB was great as always.... but the opening acts were misbooked. The Swimming Pool Ques and Jason and the Scorchers. Swimming Pool Ques came out played a song to silence, realized they were in the wrong place and were honest. Said we have to play 10 songs for 45 minutes or we don't get paid, crowd cut them a break. Especially since they had a cute girl dancing playing tamborine. Jason and the Scorchers sucked. Crowd was walking out on them - more people getting high in the bathroom than watching them. They kept waiting for applause, and got pissed when they did not get it. Finally played a Southern Rock song, got some applause, then went back to playing their stuff. Crowd started chanting CDB. After that we had to wait another 40 minutes - I guess for MTV to get their shit together for the taping for Rock Influences. It was a warm November night, and Taz DiGregorio must have sweat off 10 pounds working. I saw CDB 3 times, (at Garden State which was also great) and at Waterloo Village (which was not, Charlie's voice had began to go by then) and it was this night I realize that he ran the concert. They also did some a few of their new, lesser known songs that night, including Class of 63, which was a hidden gem . CDB was huge in NJ - more than people would have thought, especially in the Greenville Section of Jersey City

You beautiful musicians, thank you Mr. Daniels, thank you band. Your song was prophetic in the deepest sense. The devil did come down to Georgia looking to steal. He was in a bind, he was way behind, but we have music, and we have recounts. And recount we did. And again. And one more time. And you're gonna regret. And Fani said, let me show you how it's done.
