Free advise from an architectural historian for the lalande team: bricks are one of the oldest building materials in the world. Bricks existed in the C16, the Romans built in brick (see the baths of Caracalla for an amazing example), and even older buildings than that exist. The bricks in this little clip are very thin and look hand made to me, they could well be C16. By the C19 bricks were fare more standardised in their size (industrialised production begins), similar to our modern bricks. You can get a tiny 3D Scanner down there that records the room properly and allows you to analyse and virtually reconstruct with an expert what this space was. If you do that (a good scanner will do this in half an hour), then you can quickly get back to finishing the loo. It doesn’t look like a septic tank to me and could well be part of a tunnel entrance and old cellars. If you want some fun and beautiful literature on brick buildings, I recommend James Campbell’s ‘Brick: a world history’ (Thames and Hudson, 2003). Have fun discovering more of your building’s history!

@janaschuster28134 жыл бұрын
@@danellis-jones1591 i definitely agree with that, though you’d be surprised how vocationally useful it is to be an expert on bricks. Or anything else to do with building history really. The professional architectural heritage industry (everything from building restoration, conservation, curating, development, archaeology, socio-political history, to interior design) is huge: buildings are everywhere, and especially in a continent as densely built up as Europe over a long period of time, looking after buildings is a big task. And, depending on the country you’re in, it’s heavily controlled and regulated by conservation laws that protect our heritage.

I personally think that you should receive some sort of award for your large contribution to public good in so many countries. On the topic of time periods: I was born in 1944 and I lived in a tiny hamlet in Marple, NW Uk where there were no other children. My best friend, Carol was a bed ridden white haired old lady of 98 who was born in 1857. I found out her date of birth during family history studies many many years later. In the woods behind the hamlet was a 17c hall called Marple Hall which Agatha Christie visited; it gave her the idea for her character "Miss Marple". The rooms were over ten feet high with at least 7 layers of wall paper; each one was like cardboard. The patterns were very colourful and fantastic. Photos of Marple Hall are online.

I'm betting it was an original septic tank before the 19th century addition. The vaulted ceiling would be necessary for the roof of the tank (see Roman tunnel work). This feels like a cliff hanger to me, can’t wait to discover what kind of room it is. My guess? It was cold storage; wine cellar, cheeses, maybe dried meats hung from the root cellar roof, vegetables harvested from the garden, preserves made and kept cool and (hopefully) dry. It’s close to the kitchen. Before refrigeration was a thing, that is probably how they would store food harvested from the garden... maybe the entrance is on the garden side?? I imagine when that part of earlier structure was burnt down, in the rebuilding they might have closed it off because by then refrigerators were a thing... But this is all just idle speculation! Secretly hoping there is treasure buried for emergency purposes by some former noble owner. In any case -what fun!! Indiana Jansen (sp) 🤣🤣🤣will discover it!

I too can't wait to see the next existing episode of Indiana Jennsen.

@@germaineholmes2247 I hope Stephanie edits in some dramatic archaeologist- adventure-explorer music. Hoping they find something more interesting than what was discovered during The opening of Al Capone’s vault with Geraldo Rivera!

I am glad that you have the storage room you have for all the Christmas decor! I wish I had more storage. The tree looks so beautiful still, with just the lights on it. I just have to say it is comical to me how you all like McDonald's hamburgers so much. Of course your homemade ones are much better!! They looked yummy!

I've decided to leave up both of trees, but decorate them with the coming seasons....Valentines, Easter, Spring, Summer, Hallowe'en, then it's Christmas again!!!!

The plot thickens lol. Could be some sort of cellar. Perhaps it was used to hide in during the revolution. Im assuming its not shown in the plans if you have any. My friend's chateau plans had all the secret rooms etc marked on them by a relative, but, he has still managed to find at least 3 that weren't on the plans. He did find a number of things in them too. You might be lucky and find something interesting.

So excited to see what you find under the chateau! There must have been more cellars given the time period during which the chateau was built. Have ALWAYS wondered what could have happened to them.

Marie IS a marvel. And I will henceforth think of Philip as Indiana Johnson!

I could not love this show more!!! I felt sad but also happy for the peacocks, intrigued with the mystery of the space under the loo, delighted with the camaraderie of all of you, annoyed that anyone would dare give this a thumbs down, and excited to see what happens next!! xoxo

I love how Selmar refers to the pretty, but small “skeptic tank”. In general, we might need more of those everywhere!

Maybe it's an idea to make a peacock tree or a woodland tree next Christas. Themed trees with a colours sceme something like that. Exited about the new found space, can't wait to see what will happen. Loved your outfit Stehanie, and the burgers looked great. Marie can really cook.

Look up industrial endoscope on Amazon. This will come in handy to film and look at things where Philip doesn't want to go
