English is not my first language but in my own language there's a really clear distinction between the sound of thunder and lightning itself. So while i get what you're saying there's still a clear distinction between in the two, at least in my language (which is also germanic, so i'm guessing it's the same in English)

I saw them the day before yesterday at Rock am Ring 🤘 For the oblivious it is the (mostly rock and metal)music festival that takes place every year at the Nürburg Ring race track in Germany since 1985. There is also a twin festival "Rock im Park" that takes place in Nürnberg on the same weekends. The line up is the same.
