This is the cheapest brake upgrade for the C5 corvette! C6 Z51 Caliper Brackets and Rotors! I got KNS Rotors for their superior heat dissipation technology. They dissipate heat 20% better than straight vane rotors can.

Great video, I’ll definitely be swapping mine out and maybe upgrading to a Z51 caliper while I’m at it depends if they will clear my stock Z06 wheels

The c6 Z51 caliper is the same as the c5 base/z06 caliper. Just a different bracket and rotor. Idk if they’ll clear a 17 inch rim. You may need an 18

Great parts bin, or Factory part up grade. Look into the Wilwood caliper upgrade, which is fixed mount 4 piston, using the factor rotor. Bolts right up to spindle, with minimum shimming. I also attend the NYST on the reg, and what a difference in braking from factory brake set up, to the Wilwood upgrade front and rear. Amazing upgrade in how much you get, for the price. Just up- grade the pad, going down town into the first turn burned up the #10 pads that came with the kit. Cheers!!

Thanks for the tip! I’m on ST47 pads now, I will upgrade to Wilson’s 6 pistons at some point, but I needed new rotors anyway so I just added the caliper brackets and viola! Plus I’ll need new wheels when I get the wilwoods.
@NY-DIYMECH
@NY-DIYMECH 4 жыл бұрын
@@LowBoostFilms Anytime . The wilwood kit I have allows me to run a factory 4 piston with a 17 zo6 rim, they do have a 6 piston that also may work with a factory 17 wheel, may just need a spacer and more money...lol. Great job so far with the build, keep it up. Maybe I'll see ya NYST. Be safe

Hey there. Didn't find a dedicated video update on this brake setup. How has it performed? Have you had more issues with cracking? Do you have a video going over this? Trying to figure what setup to go with currently but so many people on forums either have crappy recommendations for the street (such as drilled rotors...) or expensive setups, usually which also require moving up to 18" all around, and some simply swap out the rotors every other track day as a consumable. Was really hoping to find a setup that will take the heat without cracking or adding/changing around too much especially as my car is my daily, so very curious how this has worked out.
@LowBoostFilms

That’s a good idea for a new video. They have held up flawlessly even now with more power. I do need new brake pads, but that rotor has held up! I’m sure at some point if I really want to start breaking even deeper, I’m going to need another upgrade though. But I give myself a little bit of room so I don’t cook these ones.

Would be great if the rotors were available. You paid $60, the cheapest ones available now from KNS are $950. My C5 is due for rotors, I'll still use the bracket and auto store rotors. So thanks for that. I have 18's on the front now, but like you said trying to save a couple bucks until I get better than the car at the track.

Yea last I checked they were very hard to find. I’ll prob use regular rotors as well when these go but at least they’re still bigger.

Just called KNS for the rotors and they told me they are making them or selling any more as very low demand / sales. They also mentioned that hard to find C6 Z51 rotors from other manufactures due to limited sales so would love any other options you might have as not ready to go with Big Brakes / spacers and new wheels just yet. Loved the idea as was hoping to test your idea out. Open to other options that have been tested...

Do you think these brackets would fit the C6 Z06 rotors as they are only like 13.9”. Just a little bigger than the Z51. That could be a low cost solution if it fits. You have the brackets and might get BBK so might be worth a test as you have to go to the Z06 brake next anyway? Just a thought as you might be able to eye it also?

Also, they don't have a Z51 option but do a Z06 / Grandsport option so would like to know which one to chose? Thanks again for the great videos.

I'm eager to see what will be the outcome on lap times. More efficient brakes, but more rotating mass... Keep us posted, that's a setup I was looking into; front and rears to keep the balance :)
@LowBoostFilms
@LowBoostFilms 4 жыл бұрын
Yea I’ll take the extra weight and hopefully have better heat dissipation. I don’t think it’ll improve or worsen my lap times. I think the rotors will just last a lot longer and I’ll be able to stay out on track longer before they get too hot.

Beezy is great content too! I’m doing my upgrades slow and steady as I improve as a driver. Getting a square wheel/tire setup is a must, and I’d say my sway bars were another huge upgrade. Next I need cooling it gets too hot on track.

I haven’t found your impression on the upgrade, just that it dissipates heat better. What about stopping distance? Feel on the street? Do you feel the additional rotational weight?
@LowBoostFilms
@LowBoostFilms 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry I haven’t done a follow up video to this yet. I have a track day on them, there is no noticeable extra weight, stopping distance remained the same because the brake pads stay the same. But I was able to stay out much longer during sessions and I had no fade and my brakes did not overheat at all

@@LowBoostFilms thank you so much for this response 🙏 because I have a basically all stock braking system on my C5Z and am looking for some sort of upgrade but didn’t know (and can’t find too much on the forums for this specific reason too for some weird explanation) where to take the build because I want to do SS brake lines in the future (maybe change the fluid to DOT4 Motul 660 like you mentioned but unsure because of the upkeep you mentioned too) and then my questions pretty much pop up there because I really like to retain that stock appearance and ride height and I think perhaps just the bracket and rotor mod would be okay but my next question is can you do that same mod on the rears just the same as well or you can’t do that specific mod on them ? Also with the bracket mod would you be running C5 model pads or C6 sized pads to go with the Z51 sized rotors I’m guessing right ?
@LowBoostFilms
@LowBoostFilms 6 ай бұрын
@@Joey856721there’s no difference in the rear sizes so it doesn’t matter. The front uses the same caliper and pads, it’s just the bracket and rotor are larger. So cheap and easy upgrade. You can always test fit the wheel on the bracket it wouldn’t take long to figure out and swap them back until you get an 18. I suggest getting 18s all around anyways easier to rotate. I change brake fluid out every few track days
