@wertj3977
@wertj3977 2 жыл бұрын
@@looty8982 that isn't entirely accurate, not all "good" microphones try to recreate the sound as realistically as possible. Even in this vid although he's using a sdc (most accurate type of mic), it's in hyper cardioid setup close to the cab. Meaning that he would have clean enough of a source to do wondrous amounts of post processing like you hear in the video. What you want from a good rig (for recording) is to give the mixing engineer as easy of a job as possible, least noise, most dynamic range, strong transient response and frequency range. But even without that, you can still get the balance relatively decent with a limited cab.

That’s because solid state amps are less expensive than tube amps, and solid state is a more transparent technology. Meaning, they stay really nice and clean, but just collapse when driven, whereas tubes aren’t nearly as transparent and clear and articulate but they break up in a nice way.

I started playing back in the late 80’s early 90’s and I can say without a doubt the “cheap” things today are 1000% better than the cheap shit back then. Guitars like squire are built with sooo much better quality today. Now there’s no doubt a high end guitar plays better but a $100 guitar today plays like a $1000 guitar from 25 years ago.

The rise of precision computer controlled manufacturing. Back when things were still done with jigs and hand tools, you might've had a point in whinging about the country of origin, but nowadays a guy from indonesia can run a CNC router just as well as a guy from america or mexico. I really enjoy that it effectively puts a pin in lusting after the "best" gear. I know academically that a $350 RG is 90-95% as good as a prestige model, which gets me off ebay or reverb and into my seat to practice, because time spent practicing will make me sound way way way better than spending 2 hours and 3 grand on the "perfect" instrument. Now that music man majesty can be a reward for learning to shred instead of a desperation purchase to get a playable guitar.

@@tychormthorp my friend buys and sells guitars from all makes and years etc so I'm playing different guitars constantly. A guitar that was $1,000 25 years ago does not compare to a modern $100 guitar. Maybe in terms of fretwork or nut filing, but in all other aspects the wood is always less dense and less resonant on cheaper guitars and has a totally different feel.

I just recently got into playing guitar, probably about a year ago. I wanted to learn and teach myself so I was telling my buddies I want to get an acoustic well my friend said he had a really cheap one he’s give to me so I was like cool! Played that for a while until i broke a string and didn’t want to get it fixed lol but a couple months go by, my sisters boyfriend got her a really nice Yamaha acoustic and we both played that thing for about a year. I felt like I was getting better, and I really wanted to dabble with electric. So i broke down one day, saved some money and ordered a Fender bullet Squier, in clamshell pink because I’m a fan of pink lol. Got the cheapest 50$ fender amp with it and i’ve been learning songs and trying to teach myself tricks and chords these past couple months. I got to say, music has changed my life and for the better. Great video man, gives me inspiration to be able to play just like that

A hobby of mine is buying cheap guitars second hand and setting them up. Doing the frets & nut then adjusting the guitar to factory specs and my own preferences. The cheapest guitars are most often strats. I've never had one that once set up wasn't very stable as far as tuning goes. And that's with a full floating trem. Action always ends up on the lower side of fender's specs. They play absolutely fine. As far as their sound goes, it's amazing to me how different each guitar sounds compared to all others. I've had tens of strats now and they're all unique sounding. Having said that, I've never had two of the same model guitar. So I've never had two 2010 Squires of the same model for instance. The same batch. I presume they would sound identical to each other.

I don’t get the ppl who blame their equipment all the time 😭 it’s usually the player, most cheap things sounds ‘average’ and not ‘horrible’. Usually expensive equipments does have a better advantage and sounds better than cheap one but that does not equate to cheap being horrible. If it works, then it works, now up to the player to creat whatever noises they want.

I'd played the guitar for years already and my friend's mother decided to buy him one also about 30 years ago,. To say that it was cheap was an understatement, when you plugged the cable into the amp and grounded the other end of the cable on the metalwork of the guitar, it would pick up the local radio.

A lot of it has to do with the setup and how well you can play, but the quality of the equipment can play a huge part in the basis of the sound as well.

I started and got by with a small behringer amp I picked up used for 10 dollars that had treble mid and bass trim luckily for its size, a used squire strat for about 80, and a reverb pedal later on for about 60 or so. It was loud enough for practice and small gigs. It made me dial in my playing and focus on articulation.

I think the biggest trap for guitarist is when they are "stuck" on a certain level, giving in to the temptation to get better gear to somehow get to the next level. For some people its all about getting the best gear. When they have the latest and greatest then they get vintage stuff, and there's no end to it. Too many amateur guitar players have waaay too many instrument. I think if you want to get good, go with the Willie Nelson method....play the same guitar for 50++ years.

I’m really starting to learn that setting up a guitar. Even with almost no knowledge or experience reading a 5 minute guide and using 2 Allen keys and a quarter will make a shitty guitar feel like it plays better than an expensive one that’s just out the box that’s been sitting in a store for months.

decent strings, some cleaning and buffing and a bit of care with the setup will make a massive difference to a cheap guitar. especially these days the manufacturing is pretty amazing on cheap guitars. upgrading any of the hardware (bridge, tuners, nut, electronics) is huge too.
@TheFrontyer
@TheFrontyer 2 жыл бұрын
A good setup and new pickups and it will sound just as good. Could also upgrade the hardware for better quality. Sound wise there will be zero difference between a $80 guitar and a $3000 guitar, if you install the same pickups.

It is just like in singing you can listen to a hundred singers and you will instantly know THE SINGER out of the group because there is a big difference between a decent singer and one that is destined for greatness. The guitar is no different the clarity of his notes are a giveaway that he knew what he was doing. The amp is impressive the sound coming out of the amp sounds full-bodied and clear. A good player can make even a substandard rig sound like a million bucks.

Ehhh. If you're recording or gigging you need to have a bit better fidelity, maybe something that weighs less to avoid hurting your back (because cheap instruments are generally heavy), and whatever sound you're going for. And a better priced instrument is probably easier to play for beginners because they're usually better set up, but Im sure he already set this guitar up pretty well. But yeah, you can still totally do well on cheaper gear, but your opportunities may be limited (your albums lo-fi), and your guitar might be slightly annoying to play, but it doesnt hinder the actual playing process.
