Even at Cinemark (where I worked at) you’d still have a pretty good chance of getting a theater to yourself as long as some conditions were met. It’s a weekday (kids and people at work), it wasn’t a holiday, and it was any season but summer (yet again bc school would be out).

Oh my god I know which one your talking about!! It was so cheap and so nasty, hahaha thanks for jogging that old memory
@EchanteDante
@EchanteDante Жыл бұрын
@@nickpassion123 nope it was a legit projector theater situation. Basically this theater would buy the reels from theaters or studios or something after they were done playing in regular theaters. So the discount theater I went to all the movies was like if you hit rewind of the movie release schedule until 2-3 months ago. Which honestly isn’t all that bad because at the time movies took pretty much a full year sometimes give or take a month or two. So you’d get to watch a movie and have bomb movie theater popcorn for less than $6 which would have been what you’d rent it for from Blockbuster (hence why they are no longer in business because streaming and Redbox exist). I’m not quite sure how a discount theater would handle that now considering movies stopped being shown on film years ago and switched to having a fully digital system where the movies either get shipped out on special encrypted hard drives, digital files, or via satellite. I worked at a theater a short time in college and got to help with switching the films in a theater only once before I left. But from what I gathered there is no way a discount theater could buy those hard drives they sent us because we had to send them back so the theater could get their deposit back plus there would be no way of playing them because it wasn’t a normal hard drive usb connection it was this weird giant white thing that was shaped super strange that connected to the projector system. Then you had to go down and select to start the movie. However I’m sure there is still a way for a discount theater to operate though the cost would have to be way more than a dollar for a ticket.
@EchanteDante
@EchanteDante Жыл бұрын
@@zachadcock6160 lol yeah I only went once or twice so I don’t recall it being super nasty or anything but I’m sure that it eventually got grimey. But I will say the audiences were a bit on the rowdy side. That was about the only drawback I saw when I went at least.

I went and saw Barbie, the Sunday after it opened at a near midnight screening, with only two other people in the theater - a couple. Well, really, I did check on Fandango many times to see how full it would potentially get and supposedly there were only a couple other seats booked, but surprisingly, none of those patrons turned up. The movie was fine, considering the overall message and appeal, though the story was paint by the numbers. I’ll see about seeing it a second time much later.

When I was 14. My friend and I went to one of these. I think it was called MJR. Or MGR. I can’t remember. Anyway. Two older 40 year old guys sat behind us, and the whole movie kept trying to get us to sit with them and take their candy and stuff. Then offered to drive us home and waited for us in the parking lot. We had to get an employee to wait with us till our parents came to pick us up. I’ll never forget that 😂

Hey over where I live there’s a Cinemax squished between an apartment complex that’s really nice where you can get tickets for like 5$ at the most and they have 2$ Tuesdays every week. The food is pretty decent and the theater is amazing. I recently saw the new trolls movie (which they had a very very early release which was like a month before it released in other theaters) and mean girls which only like 2 other people went to go see. They also have all the popcorn buckets and an arcade which is pretty decent 😂

Well I certainly didn’t expect to see my old friend Movies 14 in one of these videos lol. There was (and still is, to my knowledge) one right around the corner from my high school. I only visited it a handful of times because it was not worth what that non-elevated seating did to my neck, but it was an extremely popular spot for drug deals, apparently. Not sure what the high school drug spot is now, because according to my younger siblings it started to be constantly patrolled by police shortly after I graduated. For those curious, yes, it also had those yellow and black checkered bathrooms, shut down concession stands and claw machines, and nearly flat seating on torn chairs.

It's honestly sad to see places with such unique design and character not be appreciated. Im certain a young child will go to the theater once, and vaguely remember it. Years in the future, the place will be torn down and forgotten. In an attempt to remember where the child saw a yellow and black tiled bathroom, they won't be able to remember, and the memory will be lost to time.

I haven’t been to a theater in over 10 years. Took my young kids to see Wreck it Ralph, and there was a group of really drunk adults in there, with a couple of their kids. Loud as hell (which was annoying but well, there are kids so, it’s kinda to be expected) but then it escalated, turned into a fight, and ended up just leaving. Not even 30 min into the movie. Also, went for a refund, and got told after 20 min, no refunds. I spent $120 for 5 tickets, popcorn and soda. Tickets alone were $75. Recently bought a nice large 70” $600 HD tv, and $200 surround sound, and now that most movies are streaming within weeks of release, there’s no reason to go to the theater anymore. Just not worth it.

years ago one of my then-friends said they did not have any money to go to the movies and insisted on going to the dollar theater. I thought she was joking, these are real.

I love the retro look! I also hate crowded theaters tbh ^u^ Like, it's nice when you're alone in a theater but it's also cool when there's a few other people spaced away from you. I got a funny story of a time when my mom, dad, and friend and I were the only ones in the theater (and I can't remember if my uncle was there or not). So, we went to see Pirates Band of Misfits which is a terrible movie btw, but my friend and I were like 8 so we didn't care. My mom and I were huge Aardman fans so we thought it was going to be like Shaun the sheep/Wallace & Gromit but it's NOTHING like those. At the time we thought the movie was funny but looking back, it's not the type of movie you wanna sit and enjoy, it's the type of movie that's only fun to make fun of. Being the only ones in the theater, you could sit and roast the characters as much as you want, crack as many jokes as you want, without disturbing others.

I haven't been to the theatre in almost 10 years. Last time I checked what was showing it was a bunch of old movie that had already been released years ago.
