All laptops should have the largest removable battery possible that runs from one side of the laptop to the other.

Hi. I noticed that G5 comes with DTS:X. When i first bought my Acer Nitro 5 it also had poor sound quality. Then after a month i found out that culprit for a bad sound was DTS:X Ultra settings. Just open DTS:X Ultra go to Custom Audio and there turn on Volume Smoothing. To me that was night and day difference. I also put Treble Enhance on 70, Bass Boost on 45 and Dialog Clarity on 20 and also used Traditional Spatial Model. Hope it works because i'm planing to buy that laptop soon, but thank God here in EU comes with 2x8 sticks of ram.

@@markoistuk9458 Thank you for your audio solution. I am thinking about buying an Acer nitro laptop and want to ask you a question. Do you think it is possible to swap over the original battery to one with a larger capacity from the same manufacturer if the bay that normally has an SSD is left empty so that there is enough room for the longer battery ?

I picked this up for sale from Amazon Black Friday sale for $749, I also bought the additional Crucial 8gb DDR4 3200MHz stick of RAM upgrade for $18 & a 1 TB Crucial P3 NVMe for $49 for a total of $816. I also did a thermal paste upgrade & also used a laptop fan stand, with these upgrades which all ended up still costing less than the regular price of this laptop made this a very capable laptop. All of the upgrades were easy & took less than 15 minutes to complete.

in my country laptops are VERY expensive, i bought this on sale for 1000 euros. but it had 16gb ram dual channel, 4060 and 1tb ssd (and its 17.3 inch) and i am VERY happy with it. it is amazing, runs all games i play at very high/ultra settings without a single issue. it can be loud but i dont mind that part as that and sound is my only issue(sound could be much louder & better, but besides that its perfect for me) also to add, im seriously impressed with internet speed - im not expert but on my old lenovo legion with 1650 thats about 5 years old, i was having around 60 ping in online games, and now in same games i have about 20% less ping on same wifi just by using this laptop.

that's funny, in my country, if you know to shop, brand new laptops will outspec and outperform desktops slightly, despite having a screen and keyboard included, but USED, the desktops outperform laptops 3-4 times easily, as people ask stupid high prices for used laptops. at the end, if laptops are so expensive, just get a desktop or 2 :)

[05:33] Thanks for the detailed review! It's great to see the performance breakdown and comparisons with other laptops in the same price range. The battery life on the G5 seems surprisingly decent, and the upgrade options are a plus. [08:20] I'm curious about the cooling performance with the cooling pad. Did you notice any significant improvement in thermal throttling or overall performance when using it? [12:13] As for the screen quality, it's unfortunate that it's not up to par with some other budget laptops. Did you find the screen's performance to be a deal-breaker for gaming and content consumption? [19:33] Your comparisons with the Acer Nitro 5 are very informative. It seems like the Nitro 5 offers some advantages, especially in terms of build quality and keyboard. Based on your review, it does seem like the G5 is a decent budget option, but the Nitro 5 might be the better overall choice. Thanks again for the thorough review!

i think from now on you should also tell us what ram is being used in the graphs, clearly in this video, the 4060 was being hold back more by single channel ddr4 ram than the wattage. at 5:34 it shows more than 20% performance improvement by just giving the laptop dual channel ram
@JarrodsTech Жыл бұрын
All my testing is done with stock ram (which is mentioned in the specs) unless mentioned otherwise. The performance issue doesn't apply to DDR5, so the majority of 2022/2023 models won't have this problem.

I bought this laptop a few weeks ago. Key things were: Build actually feels quite sturdy and doesn't feel like a budget laptop. The power brick is also quite slim so the whole thing is very light and easy to carry around. The keyboard definitely isn't as flimsy as depicted, it doesn't just detach and requires a lot of force to flex. Definitely agree with the speakers - completely unusable. For the same price there's definitely no reason to go for 4050 or last gen 3060, when you can just stick an extra 8GB ram in it for $20 to achieve similar performance to the other 4060s that cost $100+ more. Ultimately you get what you pay for - G5 is good value for budget, but sits at that lower tier of 4060s.
@JarrodsTech Жыл бұрын
Perhaps I wasn't clear in the demo, I wasn't showing it "just coming off" on its own. I went out of my way to pry the keyboard off. I'm just outlining the reason that it is mushy is because it CAN come off, not that it will randomly come off. Most other laptops don't have that as an option, so the keys feel more sturdy.

The RTX 4050 6GB on the Acer Nitro 5 is impressive on many aspects, especially when using on full power 95-100w on games performing similarly to the RTX 4060 8GB 65-75W on the Gigabyte G5. I was really looking forward too these 40 series laptops but seeing as the 4070 laptop only has 8gbs of vram and they are selling it at 1440p from what I see is disappointing. Yeah dlss 3 blah blah blah..but why should a customer need to go in and enable these softwares when buying a 2000 + laptop? It should be ready to play everything at 1440p high. Not ultra not all RT on just everything at high. Come on man. I also really appreciate you doing all these unbiased reviews man, you put so much work into these reviews. It's just so awesome. It must take forever testing all these things.

Why buy a 4070 laptop for $2000 when the nitro 5 with the 3070ti is literally avaliable for $970? Performs the sam.e

Bravo 15 are on sale in Newegg at that 899$ too. Considering it have Ryzen 7 - 7735HS already, DDR5, around 90W-105W 4060, that seems more tempting than this performance wise.

Hey really need your opinion I should this Gigabye g5 laptop for school ? going to use it for work usually not actually for gaming and the acer nitro 5 cost here 300$ more than the g5

Right now at the moment in Australia the Acer Nitro 5 is about $600 to $700 more expensive, even thought it has the less 4050. With that much of a price difference, would you still say it was the better choice over the G5 with the 4060? Its for my niece to use at uni but also so she can do some gaming as well.
@JarrodsTech Жыл бұрын
At that price difference I'd probably go with the G5.

I choose between Lenovo Legion 5 2021 (AMD) and Gigabyte G5 2022 (Intel 12th Gen) both of them on 3050. I'm going to program, graphics, play games. What to choose?
@erizheizlan Жыл бұрын
if you care about build quality. take lenovo legion 5. if you want performance gigabyte 12gen is better. for me, if the price not so much different. i rather take lenovo. better quality = lower issues of the laptop

Thanks for the detailed review! I can't decide which one should I buy, this one (expanded to 32 GB RAM) or the Lenovo Legion 5 with RX 6600M (also, expanded to 32 GB RAM)? I want to play games like Starfield, Alan Wake 2, Hogwarts Legacy, Cyberpunk... The first two is not released to it's risky...but I don't think they'll be much demanding than Hogwarts so I used that game as base for my expectations One important thing is that I'm aiming strictly at 1080p gaming, so it doesn't matter for me how it could perform in higher res. Also I'm gonna use my monitor, so eg. in case of G5, I would bypass the iGPU with the displayport. I watched your and other videos on testing the RX 6600M lenovo also and it seems good, but G5 also seems to perform relatively well. Also right now I can get any of the two basically almost exactly for the same price. So I think the question is that from the perspective of pure quality, especially thermals and battery charging.

Thanks for the video. If two RAM sticks is used will this laptop worth it? For $60 more it will out perofrm the rtx 4050 in the Acer Nitro ? Correct
@JarrodsTech Жыл бұрын
I think the Nitro would probably still be a better choice. The G5 is lower power, doesn't have a mux switch and lower build quality. The RAM would definitely improve it though.

Weird. Ive got this laptop and the only really gripes i have with it is the speakers and the fans get a bit loud. My keyboard has almost no flex and overall my build quality seems a lot better than what yours is. I did only pick it up in november, maybe they did a revise? Anyway i am very happy with it.

I have the g5kc 2021 which is i5 10500H with 105wattage 3060 rtx gpu. Is this laptop just 4060 75wattage max? Would it be worth upgrading or the performance is the same?
@AaronTechman Жыл бұрын
IMO, the 40 series absolutely crushes the 30 series as it has Frame Generation where I can max out AAA titles with butter smooth play. The keyboard on my G5 doesn't flex like in this video. They released a bios update that fixes the mini display port. The speakers are very low end but some creative pebbles for 30$ will demolish $5000 laptop speakers , they are fine for on the road. Now there is a real issue, this laptop will pull far more than 150 watts, this causes performance issue especially if you have additional fans, controllers connected. It will bench better when the adaptor is cool, I have purchased a 230 watt adaptor in the mail currently for $70 Canadian. I believe that this laptop will perform much better once it can draw as much clean power as it likes. I am very happy with it, but the acer Nitro 5 is now on sale for only $200 more and it comes with a 280 watt brick and 16GB DDR5 installed, so that would be better at that price. Another thing is the 4060 has no advantages past 100 watts, it actually loses frames. I simply added a single DDR4 8GB stick when purchased and it worked perfect at 3200mhz for $20. I also don't think the build quality is cheap, they cheaped on the power brick tho.

If I understood correctly it runs off the integrated graphics if you don't have a monitor plugged in, is that actually the case? Sounds kind of awful if you intend to use it like that. I'm looking to buy one and I really need the 8gb of VRAM to be usable

When buying a gaming laptop do I need to consider a high gb in the gpu? And if I choose the higher tier gpy but has a low storage what will the effects of it?
@agastyeet8362 Жыл бұрын
8 gb of VRAM is generally enough for most games at 1080p on high settings, although some games do require more than 8 gb. anything less than 8 gb, and you'll likely have to turn down the settings on modern and future games. a high tier GPU is going to be powerful enough to pump out high frames even on max settings and higher resolutions, in which case having less VRAM is going to be artificially limiting your performance, which kinda sucks. on the other hand, having a GPU that is not very powerful but has a lot of VRAM, is also kind of useless although it doesn't hurt.

In canada the price for this laptop now is $900 with 16gb ram open box. Price difference is $200 to $300 to the nitro 5 rtx 4050 and to the lenovo loq rtx 4050. Is it really worth putting these $200+ more for a tier below grafics card?

@@JarrodsTech unfortunately Omen Transcend has not much to do with normal Omen because of limited TGP which matters in 4080/90 configuration as we know. It would be nice if You will also have opportunity to test normal Omen with 4080.
