The Wonogiri - Solo lines is the last of the inumerable "stoomtram" (steam tramway) lines which once blanketed the Javanese countryside, especially in central Java. These local lines used a mix of street, roadside and private rights of way to connect villages to the mainline railway. Alas road competition and lack of maintenance did most of these lines in, leaving only the Solo branch.

Just a little information about this line : Purwosari-Wonogiri was built by local tramway named Solosche Tramweg Maatschappij as part of Solo-Baturetno line construction, they operated local tram using horse as locomotive. But since their horses were dead due to disease outbreak, they replaced horse with an steam locomotive. Not quite a long, this company was acquired by Nederlandsch-Indische Spoorweg (NIS) due to financial difficulties. After the Independence of Indonesia (around 1970s), the line between Wonogiri to Baturetno was demolished for the construction of Gajahmungkur dam. The rest of line still used today which described in your video.

In Poland, there's a railbus route between Parczew and Lublin, operated by PESAs. These trains run via closest larger town to my mom's village (Sobolew, not the city in Masovian), Lubartów, using the line, which was closed in 2000 and reopened partially between 2014 and 2017, as between these years, there was only cargo traffic here. Also, in Czechia, the railbus routes are very common here, but Petr from Prague (owner of Pete Brandy channel) would say more about them, as these are served by class 870 railbuses or modernised RegioNovas.

looks like a good train. it gets all the major boxes cheecked. on time, seems to be reliable and it is reasonably priced for the local population to use. and the interior might not win design awards but it seems to be sturdy and low maintenance. I guess, the quality of the rails prevent the train from going faster, aswell as the higher fuel consumption at a higher speed (which would mean higher maintenance and higher operational costs).

Everything looked good for loading at Wonogiri up to the steps. No ramps. Sad. Were there stevedores present who might be willing to help?

@@NonstopEurotrip If one was in a wheelchair, everything looked very level until one got to the 2 steps to get on the train. So I could drag myself up two steps, but not my mobility scooter, so I was wondering if there were luggage handlers around who might be induced to help out of kindness or for a small gratuity?

@@ryadi1703 That's incredible. I noticed Wonogiri already had some nice ramps. For a poor country to invest in a remote station, that shows some real heart. I really hope it helps the local folks.

I don't know why Java is always portrayed as the most populous island in the world, while in reality most of its cities are pretty much quiet and laid-back. Not to mention Java has lots of villages, rural areas, plantations, and huge national parks, making it possible to walk for hours without seeing a single soul.

@@PAWANGAERU but still, when we were told that it was the most populous island in the world, I was expecting to bump on people everywhere i go, but in reality that's hardly the case.

@@End-w8f maybe many foreigners said that because they compared it with large Russian territory with just has 145 million total population and now Java Island which are much more 10 times smaller than Russian territory has almost over 150 million total population in Java, that really crowd actually

@@PAWANGAERU by that logic then yeah, our milkyway galaxy is also crowded with billions of stars, while in reality they're millions of light-years aparts and it's pretty much empty in between.
