I'll be honest for a moment; the main reason I've been so addicted to watching for these past couple of years is the underlying horror of the spiraling costs of an average fast-food meal being played out in real time. It's absolutely terrifying once you realize that it's only growing larger and larger. Edit: For example, in his video "5 Spicy Chicken Sandwiches in 1 Day! Will Popeyes WIN?", this sandwich was $4.25. That was only four years ago. Today's was $8.00 for the same Popeye's chicken sandwich.

This is why I tend to enjoy spending a few more dollars for a complete meal sitting in a restaurant. $17 could get me a large bowl of kimchi stew, plus 5 little plates of side dish foods, and a good bowl of rice with its own lid. The stew itself comes with some flourish, being presented in a VERY hot stone bowl, and arrives to your place while still at the boiling point. Just one example.

I wait for the local coupons to come. They have a 5 pc tender, with 2 sides and 2 biscuits here for $10.99. Still steep in my book. Years back when I was in NJ, they would have a 10pc mixed chicken or tenders, no sides, for that price. Prices everywhere for Fast Food are just getting crazy. Grocery store near me has 8 piece fried chicken for 7.99-9.99, depending on the current promotions. A box of the banquet (frozen) chicken is just insane. For me, it reaches a point that it doesn't matter how good it is.

I got 2pc, reg side, biscuit and drink for $6.99, $ chicken sandwich, reg side and drink for $6.99, 5 pc chicken or tenders, 2 sides, 2 biscuits for $10.99, and 10 pc mixed chicken or tenders, 2 lg sides, 5 biscuits for $22.99. Our Arby's coupons are even crazier, and I'm in a major metropolitan area. Deals are out there you just gotta find them and take advantage of them.

I feel that we're nearing a tipping point with fast food. The items are ever increasing in price and largely decreasing in quality, with nothing to indicate the trend won't continue. At what point do consumers just stop buying? When does the pricing structure drive away too many of us? If these companies can still profit when serving garbage wrapped in foil for $8, $10, $12 per sandwich, when do people just give up?

I tried this today and had the polar opposite problem. I thought the sauce was quite flavorful, but my location was SUPER skimpy on it. it was lightly applied to the center of the top bun in a very thin layer; I couldn't even taste it until biting like 1/3 of the way into the sandwich because it was only applied to the very center of the bun. So despite being so minimally applied, I thought it tasted great, but they didnt apply nearly enough as I only got to taste it on like half the sandwich.

I understand costs increasing. Inflation. Rising costs of operations in general. I am not a stranger to economic trends. But you would think that because costs are increasing there would be an equal increase in standards and quality to match. That's not happening. Costs are going up while quality tends to either drop or stay the same. For $30 at any fast food establishment I should be absolutely blown away with the service and food quality. I'm glad people are realizing that the increase in cost for fast food is incongruent with what we as a consumer get out of the transaction.

I had one yesterday. I agree with your comment about the BBQ Sauce. First, It just didn't deliver on either a punch of heat nor the depth I would expect from BBQ. Maybe they were trying to play safe? My sandwich didn't have as much sauce applied. I would say under-sauced for me. I added the bacon and cheese but here again, nothing special about Popeyes Bacon or Cheese. I think that in general, Popeye's has more breading that KFC or Chic-Fil-A.
