It was a time when Americans were shocked and hurting. It wasn't the time to say what she said. That wasn't how people acted back then. It's okay that you don't understand that, but it was a huge betrayal during a very difficult painful time. People got along better back then. They weren't as nasty as they are now, and her behavior was nasty. It's fits today's time not back then. I know you don't get it, and many young people don't, but life isn't always about being right sometimes it's about being respectful and caring about your country. I know that's got to be a strange concept now a days, but it wasn't back then. The betrayal was so deep that it was never forgotten by those that felt it.

@Brian Dahlen Appropriately named..Gaslighter. They've been doing that for nearly two decades now, Gaslighting the public. Read the playlist...many are the tunes they originally recorded. They finally had to give credit for writing to the original songwriters on the rest, but you can see where they laid claim to "songwriting" wherever they could. Four days in, and Itunes had them at #1 for a day. Seems despite creating thousands of online accounts to request their new song, they got a one day blip there. You see, itunes list is developed from both actual sales and play requests with 100 spins equaling 1 sale on all major platforms. They have an easier time recruiting others to create multiple accounts in Canada, so expect it to be a raging chart hit there for a while. Even I can write a script to get on multiple accounts and repeatedly request and play any tune over and over again. I would not be surprised if the DC's spent the last year or so lining up any recruits they could to start repeatedly spinning the song. It's not doing so well on any other charts. I do expect that Sony (tho they aren't connected now, but were big time in the 90's), being the big dog at the table at RIAA, will be issuing a Gold award prematurely as they did when the DC's were on top of their game. I'm sure you WILL like it, as it contains a lot of old material.

I've come back to this video every few months for almost a decade and the blonde lady in the crowd at 2:16 always gives me life.

Saw them live a few years back and it was a fantastic show. This song is perfection with a message for the ages.

Wow this live version is crazy good. I feel like there is so much more conviction and power than the studio version. These ladies are amazing!

OMG. Can't believe that it took 8 long years before I hear this song for the first time. I am absolutely stunned. Right now I can't imagine listening something else than this song. Whatched also "Shut up and sing" and was shocked about so much ignorance I saw. The Dixie chicks will become a place in my all time favorites. Thank you so much girls.

This song and its message have gotten me through some times. Everytime I want to give up, I picture all the hurtful words people have said, doubting me, and I gather myself and claw my way forward. And I thank you for giving me the words to find my strength

Such a powerful song. Reminds me of the music of the 60"s when many of the songs had a message, especially during the war years.

Saw them a few years back at a show in Austin, TX honoring Lloyd Maines. They sang this song and the entire audience, on their feet already, screamed the words in unison, pumped their fists, stomped their feet and wept uncontrollably. It was one of the most emotional experiences of my life. Miss them terribly.

This might be the best record made during the 2000s....I never thought they would be able to make a better album than "Home" and boy, was I proved wrong by "Taking the Long Way." Their artistry is outstanding and they are brilliant musicians and songwriters. I'm a massive fan of their music and I'm glad they are still out there touring and doing things their way!

I just want to say, I saw their first round of tours in Canada after all this Bush statements happened. I think all three of you are so brave, you stood together, solid and strong, And I was so proud to be a part of that Toronto audience. I honestly think I’d it as piece of music history, and I think these women honestly deserve an apology. Ahead of their time.
