My father put this on and said he would be gone in 6 months due to cancer in his brain and both lungs 8 tumours taken out Christmas Eve then they were starting the lungs but my hero my world lost his battle and passed away but he told me that I had to be the man of the family that the other family members were going to look to me for guidance and to help them with their issues I said ok dad but who’s gonna be there for me when I break down and then he whispers to me I will be there son in your dreams just talk to me and I will hear you.

Every time I listen to this song, I can remember how I’ve witnessed my sister knelt down crying and begging for her then husband to stay when he was about to leave her for another woman. My nephews were just months old and 2 year old at that time and I was just 12. Since then, he never made any effort to show up and see his own children. Now that I am all grown up, I still can’t comprehend how a person can be so selfish and cruel, especially to their own children.

My mom used to sing and play guitar to this song all the time when I was little, and I could hear the emotion in her voice. My parents’ marriage was never great, and I spent my childhood wondering when it would end. This song finally came true, he cheated, and they were divorced in January after nearly 30 years together. I think of my mom playing this song all those years ago and it’s like she always knew it would end up this way. I’m 23 and listening to this song still makes me cry every time I listen.

Robert, I'm 60 years old have been around awhile. I've met a lot of "nice" women but in my experience they were only that way to get what they wanted and get security for themselves. Period. I'm sorry for your troubles. Thank God I met a decent, down to Earth woman that only wanted to be happy and raise a family, be a family. 37 years together and I've never looked back. I'd do it all again in a heartbeat..... God bless you and yours..

Came across this just now. I am 65 already and experienced a nightmare because I gave my heart to a bipolar person that controlled even my emotions. To be realistic and honest: I allowed it. Until I couldn't anymore. I can go on and on this , but I won't. I am just saying this: I am still alone. I have not been able to trust anyone ever again. Too much pain. And at this point and age of my life I am not happy because I am constantly alone but I don't have to protect myself from an obsessive unfaithful scumbag. There is a brighter day around waiting for you

Becky Torres my daughter is 15 and listens to a lot of the songs her dad and I shared and we separated when she was almost 2! It's definitely is bittersweet

this song hits a broken man like a hammer.. man i miss her touch so much.. she hasnt gone anywhere its just a love that can not be... every time she crosses my mind my my heart pauses.. someday it may shatter.. i cant even seem to care all i can desire now is to simply put my arms around her for 5 minutes... Some life goal huh?? but what do you do?? im beaten broken and completely lost....

I know exactly what you mean, Jack Lastly. I want nothing more than for him to come back to me. I think of nothing else. It's been six months and I can't imagine being with anyone else ever again. I can't imagine spending the rest of my life alone but if it's not him, what's the point? And I'm not a teenager, LOL.

Dixie Chicks are and will always be one of the greatest country acts of all time! It's pathetic how the Country Music industry has completely shut them out. All because Natalie said she was ashamed that George Bush was from Texas....Guess what I'm ashamed that he is from America!!! All my love and support to Natalie Maines and the Dixie Chicks

Agreed. They were amazing. Still are.

And the country later turned on Bush anyway. If you dig into his history, there's a LOT of awful bad there.
@HMpov11 жыл бұрын
Couldn't have said it better myself. I could do with all the "jacked up truck" or "moonshine" talk that's in Country music now.
@Alaina420ful11 жыл бұрын
Shame the country turned on them. & That they haven't been able to make a comeback. Their Bush comment & the fruhaha was what got me turned on to them. Not really being too much in to country to begin with.
@Scorchcast10 жыл бұрын
Alaina Reilly Same here, I loved country but wasn't too much into them. Then they said that and I immediately jumped on the YOLO train, but seriously, good singers that I probably would have never gave much thought had they not spoke out about George Bush.

This just made me sob.. my mom used to listen to this after my father passed. I haven't listened to it since. What emotional music they were able to create back then.

this song took on a whole new meaning for me when my wife passed away, about a week earlier we were singing karaoke and i sang this tuned down for a guys vocal range, and now i am raising my step daughters without her, i can’t believe she is gone, it happened so fast so unexpected and i still love her. 18 years came to an end so abruptly.

Same for me I lost my wife 2 years ago today 6/20/22 and if you replace a few of the lyrics if fits. Her vocals make tears flow. I've had this song in my head ever since I got up this morning so I've sat alone on the couch and listened to it a lot today
