Hi Friends, Happy Monday !
Hope you are having a wonderful day today so far. Today I wanted to talk about Tim Mclean and what in the world happened to him on the greyhound bus. The whole story is strange.
I hope the family and passengers get the justice they deserve but most of all are able to heal and move forward. Let me know your thoughts down below. Love and appreciate you guys so much and I hope to be seeing you very soon
xo

A big THANK YOU to Mary Rogers for helping me find information on this case

This was a messy case. The parents of Tim filed a case against the police. The police really did bad in this. They just watched and waited for 4 hours while Tim was being mutilated, eaten, and decapitated. What parent could accept that? The police were so lenient. They could have stormed the bus to stop him from desecreting Tim's body but no, they just waited and watched for 4 hours!!!!

If he's medicated which he is he has to get his sho5 once a month if he doesn't go get it then he gets put back ... wouldn't you want to be released if you did something not in your right mind CLEARY as this man had undetected schizophrenia? I sure would want a second chance but do me a favor think of how Vince feels in his right mind knowing what he did. It's sad all around but he deserves another chance that was criminal justice working correctly

Schizophrenia is a known disorder that can convince the person not to take meds or get help. If they take meds and get better they get convinced they're better forever and don't need it. It literally degrades your brain matter it causes actual brain damage from the moment it manifests. It literally eats away at your brain and is similar to dementia. Like I hate to do that but it is the one condition that literally is complete shut down of the brain making any sense. It's really messed up Bailey didn't do any research on schizophrenia to understand why it works this way.

Armani berg I have a psychology degree and I agree. What I DON’T agree with though is his full release. Considering what happens when his condition goes untreated, he should have been kept longer in a mental facility I think. Statistically, very few schizophrenics are violent and if they are, they’re most likely to hurt themselves than others. The issue is, the ones who DO hurt others tend to have more severe forms of the condition. It’s fine when they’re on their medication but unfortunately the OP is missing a HUGE part of the issue with schizophrenia. It’s not like bipolar. Schizophrenia is true madness. Your brain literally cannot tell the difference between reality and imagination. That part of your brain is disabled. If he’s late taking his meds due to an unavoidable occurrence (eg. Lost his keys and can’t get into his house for hours, or a blizzard prevents him getting home from work etc) those paranoid thoughts quickly manifest! Those paranoid thoughts say things like “the medication is poison! They’re trying to control your mind! Don’t take them!” ☺️ Their ability to rationalise is completely affected, so unfortunately they don’t have that awareness to have responsibility. Bipolar can have manic episodes, but the vital component is you still can separate the real world from imagination. If you suddenly saw a tiger in your kitchen, you might initially get a fright, but you would think “how is this possible? How could it get in?” Etc. Schizophrenia is unique in that the part of your brain that reasons this way is entirely impaired. 💖🙌🏻

I remember when this happened. I was kinda young, so I was mostly shielded from the story, but I remember the hatred for Greyhound after it happened. Probably because they did nothing for those affected. Incredibly scary that he's just out here, allowed to live life. I suffer from mental illness, and am very against the idea that he was just allowed to walk free. He failed to take his medication, resulting in a lost life and lives clouded in PTSD, therefore he's responsible for the action. I really hope everyone affected managed to get therapy and are able to find some peace.

But why couldn’t they have kept him in a facility... if he wasn’t “criminally” responsible, he’s still clearly a danger to himself or others. Regardless of that, though, he wasn’t taking his medication. That is a willful action, so yes... he was responsible. Maybe in that moment, he wasn’t himself, but he knowingly stopped taking his medication that was prescribed to help him... and then he mutilated someone and ATE PART OF HIM. But yah, sure.
