Was in China last month and this Douyin brain rot is no joke. Saw a group of people in a fancy neighbourhood, one was shouting at his phone obnoxiously. Another girl just scrolling sitting in front of the camera. In ChongQing there was a guy grilling and dancing singing the same thing over and over, a small girl wanted to join in and dance with him, and the guy shoves her away like hes doing important business. Also almost all the aunties and uncles are playing this Taobao game, where you scroll through ads to "grow virtual trees" and earn miniscule amounts of money. Fun fact the returns are so *high for these Chinese sellers (in China) it averages around 70%, many sellers losing money even when selling so much product, because of free shipping, stocking costs, and the fleeting fashionability of clothing
@zg33426 ай бұрын
Once china is taken off the “developing nation” list first international shipping so they have to pay what the rest of richer nation pay the flow of super cheap products will be done. For example right now some business in china can ship an item for 1 dollar internationally to Canada while if that same person in canada shipped the same item to that same person in china they’d pay 15 for the same item taking the same shipping route. China, the largest or second largest economy in the world, shouldn’t be considered a “developing nation” since they aren’t anymore and haven’t been for decades.

Seriously, you're going to tell someone to do research when your research went as far as watching an episode of Sherlock? That's not tea being poured on the pot it's just water, you brew the tea in the pot so it wouldn't be outside to pour on it. Also the Japanese would be incredibly insulted if you just started pouring their tea over things. If you bother to research you would find out this practice is used to help keep the water in the pot hotter while brewing. You either do this or you put it in a shallow basin of hot water that you keep to temperature.

~long rant about taking surveys as gospel~ Its also just a dumb point to bring up in general. I don't know how things are in China, I'm a dirty American, but in America no one gives a shit about space travel anymore! Why would the kids aspire to be astronauts when no one else in your society gives a shit? Maybe China is pushing space stuff more lately. Maybe Chinese parents are pushing their kids towards respectable careers because they view that as more important then doing what you want. Maybe its because China has more job opportunities for people interested in space. Maybe the study that found those stats is just bad. I don't know, but I do know that the matter is so much more complicated then "social media ruined the kids" But also: who the fuck cares about what job kids aspire to do when they grow up? I wanted to be a zookeeper when I was a kid. I'm a software developer now and working at being an author on the side. Kids' aspirations change. From what I can gather, this survey was done on kids between 8 and 12 (also their parents? I would not trust a parent to answer that question accurately, I'm sorry). I didn't start to realize what I wanted to do until I was already into _college_ I didn't start to consider writing professionally until high school. How can you even ask a kid that young such a question? They have very little context into how the world works, so they repeat the jobs that they see the most. That's why the other top ranking jobs on that list are things like "musician" "athlete" and "teacher." These are jobs that kids see, thus they are ones they can identify with. Very few kids aspire to be accountants, and yet, we have no shortage of accountants. This survey (not a study, a survey) was done in 2019 as well so...probably a bit out of date. Though the part of me that almost got a BS in Psych is curious to know how those specific kids' answers have changed over the last five years.
