I think the water they have access to is just not good or feeding on sugar permanently altered their taste buds. If you've ever had to avoid sugar for a good while and make your own meals from scratch, when you taste "outside" food again you notice how strong they are. Sugar is a scary drug.

I used to hate plain water as a kid, but I didn't like to drink those sodas aswell.. by the time I got older I got more into sports and my favorite hobby is dancing now. So with that, I tried to drink more plain water everyday until I got used to it and now I like plain water :) sometimes, when it's 'boring' for me, I make infused water to get a bit of a flavor, not too much tho because i hate too much flavor, and I feel good again

I’m someone who naturally since birth has kidneys which can be prone to failure if I don’t care for them. Usually what I drink these days are maybe half a bottle of water a day and a cup of tea (maybe 8-10 oz serving, usually mint, 2 light sugars). Which is not much, but I’m doing good (I think). Then I discovered peace tea. Once I drank a whole can in pretty much a single sit down. Just that one can (I think on it it said 1 can = 2 servings 🤷🏻‍♀️), was enough to make my kidneys ache something fierce. Maybe it’s cause of my specific kidneys or the fact that I don’t really like anything sugary, but if I couldn’t handle that ONE can… these people drinking EIGHT of their sugar with water drink A DAY. I mean maybe a peace tea isn’t the same amount of sugar as their “water” but still… oof… I just did some unnecessary math of the sugar: Razzleberry Peace Tea = 35 grams = 8.5 teaspoons My mint tea = 8 grams = 2 teaspoons (One teaspoon equals 4-ish grams) It’s generally recommended Americans (w/ 2,000 calorie diet) consume = 12 teaspoons (48 grams) of sugar daily I mean I’m failing math, and not for the first time, but I think this time my math is mathing but their’s isn’t… 👀

Completely agree! As someone with POTS, I can say that some people can't get hydrated from water alone. They need electrolytes in the water such as tiny amount of salt and sugar (I'm talking REALLY small amount of sugar) for the body to absorb it. Also, check your local water chemical levels. Some people are very sensitive to chlorine and fluoride which is often added to tap water to clean it or for "benefits". If your area has a lot of chlorine or is really hard, get filtered water jugs that you refill. I physically can't drink tap water in our city without feeling sick and nauseated, but it's because of the amount of chlorine they put in. Once I switched to filtered water from those big 5-gallon jugs and a water dispenser, water has been far more enjoyable for me. It's always nice and cold, and if I want hot water, it's on tap, too.

TW// ed A little while ago, I actually used to drink flavored water (not as outrageous tho, more like a little squeeze of a lemonade flavor water enhancer) and to call it “water” encourages a… weird mindset. Firstly, I adore plain water, and I drink like a gallon a day, and so my mom got me a water enhancer because it contained sodium in it. Drinking too much plain water, can cause your sodium levels to drop and it can harm you very much, so my mom thought it would prevent me from dying lmao. (That’s why drinks like Gatorade or liquid IVs have sodium, to replenish your body of the sodium it lost from for example running) Later on, I developed an ed and I missed juices, sodas, smoothies, and basically any drink that wasn’t water or unsweetened tea. So I would continue using my enhancers pretty frequently so I’d drink more water to prevent me from drinking a simple orange juice, because I did not want to drink my calories. So, it’s true, these aren’t THAT harmful from an objective point of view… but many of these syrups and what not, have a very high sodium content, and it’s not like they are drinking just PLAIN WATER to counteract it… because these drinks ARE their water. So, on top of the sugar level some of these have, they’re drinking copious amounts of sodium in one sitting! Moreover, if one is struggling with an ed like I was, and resorts to these types of things, it might make them more inclined to drink these mixes in very large amounts to suppress their hunger…. So although not that harmful, the side effects from it CAN affect these people and their viewers…

I have actually heard that for some people who've had bariatric surgery, plain water can upset their stomach. I don't understand the science behind it, but there are doctors who reccomend sugar free flavor packets to patients who are getting nauseous from plain water. Hydration is super important after bariatric surgery so if the difference between you meeting your water goals and not is a few sugar free packets, I'd say it's probably a good thing that you're drinking water at all.

They're doing everything in their power to avoid just drinking tea. Seriously, I have a birthday cake flavoured tea I bought like a year ago that I still haven't finished because it's so incredibly sweet that I can't have it too often (and it really does taste exactly like birthday cake). It's a loose leaf made up of dates and a few different kinds of leaves. Only natural sugars. I cannot fathom how you can go THIS full circle about drinking "healthy" flavoured water and completely ignore the existence of tea. You can have it hot or cold, and it's infinitely less expensive to make than buying a million syrup pumps. Tea actually has health benefits too, it's caffeinated but doesn't dehydrate you like coffee, and it may even help PREVENT cavities by reducing bacteria and acid in your mouth. Tea comes in so many varieties and flavours, and unless you've tried every type of tea in existence, "I don't like tea" is simply not an excuse. People who think they don't like tea have probably just tried black tea and assumed all flavoured teas still have a black tea-like flavour. Try blueberry tea once and get back to me, it's sweeter than any soda I've ever had.

@@Scott_Inksmith Some dyes (both artificial and natural) have been shown to cause to increase ADHD symptoms, but it is important to note that the amount of dyes given to the children in the study was the same as two coloured drinks & 100-200g of lollies. If it makes people feel better to cut artificial or all dyes out, then that's all good people are allowed to do what they want. Also a lot of the marketing around 'natural' dyes being better is untrue. With the history of natural dyes a lot of them ended up being toxic/poisonous but not known until *after* it was put in food. Natural has no legal definition when it comes to food and products, so a lot of the time it's just greenwashing. (Sorry for the infodump, I'm just someone who likes learning about this kinda stuff)

I do wanna help clarify one small thing. If you are nauseus, or highly susceptible to nausea like a bariateic surgery patient, water really will be more likely to make you feel ill or vomit. I forget the specific mechanism but when you are nauseus and drink water it can trigger the vomit reflex (I think its how your mouth waters before you vomit so you accidentslly trick your body into vomiting). This is why when sick, people grab things like gatorade. So yes, I do beleive them about water and nausea. But I wouldn't call these drinks water. Water plus a lemonade packet is lemonade

I dont know if its a dutch thing though, we have many flavours and theyre actually made for children so they at least drink something. You can provide your own measurements so it isnt sickly sweet and at least for the syrups that we have here, with the intended use it is at least half as sweet as coke for example so its a great step down if you cant go to water instantly!

If you do not like the flavor or water: may I recommend fruit teas. Most are decaf, and they add a flavor that isn't too strong but are somewhat sweeter and smell really good without any added milk or sugar. There are a lot of options on the market if you go looking. You can prep a lot of it at a time, let it steep for a long time for more flavor (try experimenting with starting with boiling water or room temp, there is a difference). But if you get into more traditional teas (i.e. Chinese teas) which are known to have many benefits, make sure you eat something with them if there is nothing in the tea, cause they can and will make your stomach upset.

9:53 This is what happens when you are highly desensitized to sugar due to chronic overconsumption. You _need_ these huge quantities just to be able to taste something. After a period of staying away from sugar, the sensitivity resets itself. Trying those drinks then feels like death. Also, she says it is "refreshing". So I also had weight-loss surgery and drinking water in the beginning was SO difficult for me. My stomach was reduced to the size of an egg and I was on a liquid diet. I ended up passing out and going to the hospital for fluids because I was dehydrated and my blood pressure dropped. Now I'm three years out and can eat healthy size portions and drink about 100+ oz water a day no problem. But plain water has always been difficult to drink even before surgery. I literally would gag trying to drink plain water. Anywho, I rely on a little bit of mio, crystal light, or zip fizz (vitamin flavoring that's a little fizzy) to flavor my water. I tend to dilute it quite a bit. For example, one packet of crystal light suggests you add it to a 16 oz bottle and I'll add it to a 20+ oz water bottle. That little bit of flavor helps me quite a bit. I can't imagine adding zero free syrup too, sounds way to sweet. Anywho, I lost 135 LBS (from a size 24/26 to a size 10) and kept it off. Drinking water is critical and according to my urologist, adding the bit of flavoring is OK.

@@katiekat2074 in my case, I think it was, 1. I drank more pop than water before my weight-loss and surgery and I didn't hydrate enough at that. 2. After surgery I was forbidden from carbonated beverages and was told I had to drink minimum 40 oz water which was hard to do with my new stomach. All in all, it was a sudden change that took time to adjust to. Now I have no problem with it but I do still have to flavor my water a little. Right now I'm working on a 24 oz water bottle with two modest squeezes of sugar free crystal light. I can do infused water too. I just have to have something in the water. The only time I can drink plain water is if I'm working out and very thirsty. Anywho, I don't know why I've always been like that.

Background in organic chemistry here, just wanna say that there's this thing called 'sweetening power'. Normal sugar has a power set at around 1, while artificial sweeteners are sweeter... way sweeter. I've checked the ingredients of the syrup they used (Skinny syrups), the two main artificial sweeteners they use is sucralose and acesulfame-K. Respectively, the have a sweetening power of 600 and 200, which means they are 600 and 200 times sweeter than normal sugar. With the amount they put and consume, it's safe to say they are, in fact, sugar addicts.

The acid degrades the enamel of your teeth, causing cavities. While brushing your teeth frequently and correctly to destroy bacterial colonies is very effective to prevent tooth decay, so is consuming food and beverages in intervals of no less than 3 hours: your saliva is a natural buffer solution, working on neutralizing the acids bacteria produce to get back to the slightly alkaline pH of your mouth. The more frequently you eat sugar, the harder it is for your saliva to get back to that alkaline pH, slowly destroying more and more your teeth. Drinking one of these drinks a day? Fine. Drinking these like you would with actual water (8-10 times a day)? Cavities speedrun.

Thanks for the clear explanation, may I ask, would it be the same with sweeteners, like aspartame for example? And what about alcohol?
@sadegodfrey4738
@sadegodfrey4738 Жыл бұрын
@@sarahd.4782 Aspartame, although acidic, would not be a problem in itself just like other artificial sweeteners wouldn't: they aren't actually carbohydrates and bacteria will not consume them. However, the acid MAY contribute to noncarious lesions (like erosion) that can cause sensibility of the tooth; a quick Google search tells me that many of these flavoring packets also include lactic acid, further decreasing the pH. Like I said, consuming one or two of these drinks a day is fine, just like drinking lime juice (an acid drink), but consuming it 8-10 times a day like you would with water is not going to be good. Regarding alcohol, if you mean alcoholic drinks, yes, these may cause cavities. Alcoholic beverages like beer are made by fermenting the sugars of fruits or grains into alcohol, so the less alcohol it has, the more sugar the drink has; beer has a lower % of ethanol than vodka, and because of that reason it has more sugar than vodka. Ethanol in itself does not cause cavities, though. I would advise against it or at least consuming alcohol with moderation because it is a co-carcinogen, meaning that it increases the risk of oral cancer, especially if you smoke tobacco. I would also advise against mouthwashes with alcohol: besides being a co-carcinogen, it weakens the enamel of your teeth and does not distinguish between good and bad bacteria (throwing off the balance of your oral microbiota), while also causing irritation of the oral mucosa.

My grandma once told me to drink water with sugar to prevent muscle soreness after exercising so i tried it and i HATED it. It tasted like a really sweet medicine (and of course it didn't work) so watching this video reminds me of that flavour and makes me wanna drink a lot of plain water so... Two years ago my family and I switched from soda and energy drinks to sparkling water, then after a year of that we switched to those zero sugar juice packets you can get at the store. We drink those for special occasions or when we just want a treat. There’s also tea, I drink a lot of tea nowadays. I used to pile in the milk and sugar but I’ve managed to lessen the amount over time there too and now enjoy plain tea all the time!

Hearing people say plain water makes them feel ill or that they hate the taste is always interesting to me because mostly all I've drank since I went to college is water, decaffeinated green tea, and unsweetened black tea (if I get fast food or eat at a restaurant). I have juice or a soda maybe two or three times a year, if my go-to drinks aren't available. Makes me wonder if it has to do in part with the water quality depending on location because most of the water I drink comes from the well on our farm.

@@ivyrose7751 Yes, that's why I said in part. Clearly surgery has a major impact on a body's functions post-surgery, but I'm wondering if water quality has any impact since not everyone who gets these surgeries feels sick drinking plain water.

I tried this a while ago. Drinking water made me feel sick (found out later that my body was craving more electrolytes and didn't want them diluted), so I tried those Mio water flavorings. I dramatically increased my water intake, but the artificial sweeteners gave me all sorts of health issues. Now I drink gatorade until I get thirsty and then drink water for the rest of the day. Also my body likes room temperature tap water and not refrigerated filtered water. Who knew? 🤷

The lady why started the trend should’ve talked to her doctor more about the feeling of “throat erupting” from drinking 64floz of water. Either she was chugging all her water at once (and 6-8oz feels bad when you do that) or her stomach can’t hold 64oz. It just seems weird to go from “my stomach is too full” too “artificial flavors helps me stomach all this water”

i like those little drink mix's because the water bottles my work provides kinda taste bad, and we pretty much HAVE to stay hydrated because of how fast we have to go to get our jobs done and how hot it can get constantly going in and out of the store, and those little drink mix's just help me to get all the water i need for the day. when i get home i have regular water too, so it's not like im scared of how it tastes, but just having the option to have a strawberry drink or a pinapple drink instead of water with a weird aftertaste just makes it easier to stay hydrated
