Hanson was awarded the National Humanities Medal in 2007 by President George W. Bush, and was a presidential appointee in 2007-08 on the American Battle Monuments Commission. His book, The Dying Citizen, was published in October 2021. And his latest book, released on May the 7th this year, The End of Everything, How Wars Descend Into Annihilation.

We appear to be at a civilisational moment. The west needs to take this very seriously. We need to openly examine western values of course, but we must also openly defend the many values that are of great worth. Political Islam and the communist countries ought not to be invited to view us as weak simply because we are open societies. The social ills of wokeness, cancel culture and unchecked immigration of those who are fundamentally opposed to our values need to be countered.

The space between major conflicts has been lengthening, it is now 80 years since the end of WW II, but humans are humans and tensions build. We have China with a collapsing economy and Russia trying to regain past glory. The USA which was for a long time the great moderator has become helpless due to internal division nearly as bad as 1860 and a generation of people obsessed with narcissism and loopy woke culture. It may be inevitable that a massive global war is coming again- like in those old 50's movies where the female lead goes into hysterics and the guy has to slap her across the face to bring her back to her senses.

The more I listen to people like you the more I realize just how broken our educational system really is. If there were some way I could make sure thinkers like you would be the only people allowed to run our educational system I would put that system into action. The so-called educated people I have had to deal with over the last fifty plus years are a testament to the failure of our education system to truly educate. We are our own worst enemies, but it appears we do not know any better and if we somehow finally figured it out I don’t believe we would as a whole know how to correct it. Please keep trying to get the word out as to what is really true. Hopefully, enough active minds will see the mess we are in and start collectively correcting things. May the good Lord help us if we can’t do this ourselves.

Don't do simplified Chinese translations. Besides the censorship, Chinese publisher do lousy job at translation because the job get outsourced many times and often end up in a translator paid a tiny fraction of the original budget. The Taiwanese do a better job.

Very wise. I worry about the West. The USA still maintains strong armed forces, but Britain and France don't, and one must compare them with potential enemies, not peaceful neighbours. Germany has relied on those two, and the USA. While I don't doubt the effectiveness of British armed forces, they are reduced relentlessly every year, and I see no end to the trend.

I seem to remember early in the war in Ukraine the Russian army was at the gates of Kiev then turned around and went back to the Eastern part of Ukraine. Apparently Zelinsky signed an agreement with Russia that they wouldn't join NATO and allow the Eastern border area to join Russia . Peace was literally sealed and then Boris Johnson shows up on behest of the European governments and the United States and puts the kalabash on the deal and a million dead Ukrainian soldiers later there's no peace and no chance for Ukraine who' rich farmland is currently being sold off to the highest bidders, guaranteeing Ukrainian poverty for the unforeseeable future.

US foreign policy has plenty of blemishes over the decades, but it isn’t comparable to ethnic cleansing. Attempting to nation build was probably a mistake, but it isn’t the same as outright annexation or eradication of neighboring states. The intention in many cases was to create governments that played better with everyone else (and even their own citizens) to tone down the international violence. It’s disingenuous to conflate these things.
