I like the implication (at least to me) that when the confirmation Dias says it’s easier to decide when they’re younger, it just means it’s easier to coerce children into believing whatever the Dias wants them to believe. Also, in defense of Dream’s “are wizard brains different”, EVERYONE around her has been insisting that wizards are just “fundamentally different” then their non-magical peers, and that all standards they had for understanding human behavior “didn’t apply”, so it makes sense to wonder “are they actually different”.

This just makes me realize how Hufflepuff is easily the best house from a mental health perspective. Slytheryn tells children that they are destined to grow up to be terrible people. Griffyndor will undoubtedly raise a generation of narcissists, and Ravenclaw is just asking for a metric butt-ton of anxiety disorders by forcing children to live up to high expectations. Whereas hufflepuff is like congrats you are normal.

I love how they're deconstructing the school houses. I can just imagine goat house practicing really hard to win the local magic sport game only for the "Evil" house to beat them via catching the golden snitch (and they learn the sport was actually invented by an Aqrabus who included the snitch as a way to ensure the hero and evil houses could constantly beat the goat house. Obviously the nerd house would never have a good enough snitch-seeker to beat them). Then, for the school's written tests, students can get extra credit but all the answers to those questions are found in the advanced books only the nerd house has access to due to them living in a library. And finally at the end of the year when they're awarding the house cup, the hero house suddenly gets a whole bunch of points awarded at the last minute for bravely picking fights with the evil house and having a bunch of adventures off screen. If goat house asks why their adventures don't award house points, it's because they didn't fill out the proper paperwork.
@Jermbot152 жыл бұрын
I love it, all the way up to the point where hero house is expected to fill out extra paperwork, and then they actually do it. Heroes don't do paperwork, that's something goats do. To keep the pattern going, hero house gets credit for their heroics because of their bravery, virtue and access to the schools magical weapons arsenal, goat house loses points for their heroics because they put themselves in unnecessary danger while being ill equipped.
@JSmellerM2 жыл бұрын

Tracking is a real thing and it does work exactly as intended. The elementary school in the wealthier area of my hometown was the one that fed into the advanced language arts + social studies classes. Those 30-40 kids were lumped together starting in 5th grade as “the smart people” all through middle school, which created a particular clique among them. And to no one’s surprise they all were given the resources to succeed and went on to have a big advantage heading into high school and beyond. (And of course higher stress levels about living up to the “smart” label they got in 5th grade)

being in "gifted kid classes" meant i stopped caring abt anything but those classes and then when i stopped being "gifted" and everyone caught up to me i spiralled bc i wasnt special anymore. the kids who continued didnt spend any time making friends bc they were always studying and working and going to college classes after school was out. gifted kid programs are fucked up

I loved being in an environment with people who also genuinely cared about learning and doing well at the same level at me, but it was not worth it to see my friends' education fall to the wayside because doing bad on one test = bad at [insert subject here] = does not care so can be left to their own devices, according to too many education systems. it sucks. I think it's important to cater to students' needs, interests and desires but not at the expense of others' education. basically, don't make it a cheap way of getting out of educating the people that are harder to educate. ughhhhh!

So, I like to think this is the same world as The Unsleeping City. I know they'd never do a crossover but for the sake of fun, I thought about what DnD builds each of our Magical Misfits would have. I've made them all full casters for the sake of magic school, but none of them fit the stereotypical DnD Wizard. They'd probably start around level 5 or so. Jammer: Variant human with Athlete feat. Valor Bard with expertise in Athletics and Acrobatics. He's very strong, but not the greatest fighter, and he's constantly inspiring his friends with speeches. Dream/K: Variant Human with Warcaster feat. Swarmkeeper Druid to get those hordes of small animals, Wisdom based with some healing. Perfect for our bubblegum goth witch. Sam: Variant Human with the Talepathic feat, Charisma based for that emotionalsight ability. Glamour Bard with expertise in Performance and Persuasion because she is objectively cute, but can also hurt you. Evan KeLMP: Hexblood Lineage race. For his class, I decided on a multiclass to represent how he breaks the game when it comes to combat. That's right, our boys a Coffeelock (Warlock/Sorcerer). Specifically Hexblade Warlock and Shadow Sorcerer because he doesn't have much Brawn/strength, but CAN stomp you into the ground without magic. Anyway, that's all of em. It'd be cool to see, but both stories are rich enough on there own.
@romxxii3 жыл бұрын
For starters, Evan would likely a warlock with a Great Old one patron, although "patron" would be used loosely since he didn't ask for the powers. The rest would probably fit sorcerer more than actual wizards. Dream is the only high INT character and even she doesn't appear to use spells specific to the 5e schools of wizardry.

So I've never heard the term "tracking" before, reminded my of my primary school (age 4-11 in my country) So when I was 10 the teacher had a system of table groups. There were 6 numbered groups, groups 1-4 sat in rows directly in front of the teacher, 1 being closest and 4 being furthest. Groups 5 and 6 sat in squares off to the side. Each group had 4 kids. I was in group 1 at the start of the year, and I was the lowest scoring of those in group 1 in tests. Some kid in group 2 got a higher score than me in one test so the teacher swapped us. I cannot tell you how fucking crushing that was, especially when my dad found out and flipped his shit at me. While it probably made the other kid pleased with himself, I was just in this pit of despair, and I really don't think it's a nice system to make kids participate in.

"If I get put into the scorpion house, I'm gonna cry." I felt the same way about Hufflepuff. "I know just where to put you... Hufflepuff!" *snaps wand. "I would like to go home, please." "You know if you argued with the Sorting Hat for like three seconds you could be put into whatever house you want." *looks down at broken wand. "Ah..."

Tbh that reaction is a very Non-Hufflepuff one... trying to figure whether it's more Gryffindor or more Slytherin

Isn't a big part of this whole series how Hufflepuff is the only good house? I mean I get it if you're like a kid imagining harry potter stuff but this were literally 11 minutes of them explaining how Hufflepuff is the only house you should want to be in

In this case, I feel like it's more the players AND the GM teaming up to bully J.K. Rowling. Somebody who isn't even in the room.

Okay I SWEAR at some point I saw a clip of Aabria introducing the house and saying something along the lines of like. "And all of the houses are equally good" or something like that but with a specific hesitation that made it clear she was dissing Chimeron but I didn't see that line here or when I watched the full show. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

2:34 she's dissing on chimeron and afterthat the thing about all four equalhouses

Also listen. We need to have a talk about how many kids that were resourceful and cautious and cold because they were _abuse victims_ getting sorted into evil house while rich bastards with consistently violent impulses sit pretty in the white hats house Like. Jo abused kids are going to read your books and you’re telling them they’re manipulative and cruel for not trusting authorities or putting up walls. You absolute Buffoon
