I am 65. I started playing when I was 10. After years of just playing the regular chords at about 17 or 18 I started learning about chords like the G/C chords. After a while it became second nature to me. I still use them today. I tell a lot of guys just beginning to worry about learning the chords right for a while then later on you will want to adlib things on those chords. Don't be in a hurry. It will all become second nature. Also, at least with me, I used to lay back on the bed and practice these chords with my eyes closed, to learn from feel of where you are at on the fretboard of the guitar. I still play a couple of hours a day. In my home. The guitar, in all honesty, has always been my first love.
