Forgiveness is a vital part of life. Asking for forgiveness for what we have done is not only rare these days but is one of the foundations of life. When we forgive it frees us of the burdens we carry. Asking God to forgive gives us blessings of heaven to intervene in our lives.

Exactly why Peter is the Rock. He is the disciple with the most character development. Love it. His hesitation to forgive Matthew outright, was so well acted out. Peter has to come to terms with what it means to be the Rock. He has to forgive Matthew before such a role is to be fulfilled. Love it. Perfect.

CORRECT,by seeing this movie,it's almost like you can peer into the past and see the bible come alive,IT'S ALL ABOUT FORGIVENESS,BUT until JESUS CAME, there was nothing but the good in man,but strife was in the world a million times worse

Jesus is the Rock Peter is the stone petros
@HailChristTheKing
@HailChristTheKing 18 күн бұрын
@@timothydirig8843 Then why he is also named Cephas? Which is Aramaic for simply, "rock." You see, the Petros/Petras distinction comes from Matthew's desire to not use the feminine form of the Greek word for rock when addressing the man, Peter. St. Peter is plainly named "rock," and the Aramaic form of his name proves that, in the Matthew 16 section, Peter is that rock upon which the Church is built, not to say that Jesus isn't the ultimate foundation, but that Peter is a great source of unity and his name proves that he was given this role; just as Abram's name was changed to Abraham (Father of Many Nations) to signify his new role, Simon turns into Peter/Cephas (Rock) to signify his new status as a leader of the Apostles and of all the Universal (Catholic) Church.

@@raymondfryar1533 In a small group intimate setting at church, we were to forgive someone that it was difficult for us to forgive. Realizing that that person was me brought a whole wave of misery along with cleansing tears. The misery doesn’t pop up as strongly anymore, just Jesus’ forgiveness, compassion, and grace.

"You don't apologize to be forgiven, you apologize to repent. Forgiveness is a gift given from the other person." I waited for 25 years for an "apology" that finally came, but I had to give endless forgiveness even when it hurt. I wanted to hear more in the apology, but as a wise person told me "That may be all he has to bring to the table." Sometimes we don't hear all we want to hear when someone apologizes (or asks forgiveness); but our responsibility is in the "endless forgiveness."

But this show and I’m sure the Holy Spirit has made me dive in deeper to my faith. Christian faith is being attacked all over the world but we must be strong and keep the faith and speak out . My other advice is to pray, read the Bible and pray the rosary it works!!!!

Im certain we have all been in a situation where someone has hurt us and we were too stubborn to forgive them. its such a good feeling when we do swallow our pride and forgive. The end of this video was the most meaningful moment of all 4 seasons. So much is made of forgiveness being a gift for the one who gives it, to be free of the hatred or whatever negative emotion is there, but it is also a gift to the one who is forgiven. Forgiveness is the only thing that can break the cycles of violence in the world.

I agree. But even if the person who wronged us is not repentant, we need to forgive them for our own sake, so that we can let go of the anger and bitterness. Sometimes that person isn't even still alive, but still cause us grief. Doesn't mean we have to allow them back into our lives.

One of the things that touched me is how tender Jesus was with Mathew. After discussing the problem He kissed him on top of the head. He was also understanding with Peter. Jesus also said something to Mathew like, neither My Father or I are happy when two of my followers are holding bitterness in their hearts towards each other. We would do well to remember that. Being unforgiving is displeasing to God.

The story is all about forgiveness. Its always important to forgive, even when people do not deserve forgiveness. 70 times 7 is one of the greatest commandments to live by. Jesus wants his children to always forgive even our enemies and to love them as the way he show us love. The best part of the story is that both Mathew and Peter forgiven each other.

I loved every part of this scene. I love how the others were stunned and wondering what's going on, but Thaddeus and Mary are smiling because they are happy for matthew for finally experiencing forgiveness and friendship, even from Peter. And of course the wide eyed childlike reaction from Matthew. Peter who had to do the most noble thing and sincerely forgive the one he was most angry at.

Christ calls us to forgive one another. You might have faith that can move mountains, and hope of life eternal because of surrending to Jesus and accepting him as your savior. But if you dont have love, you have nothing. And it is better to give than to receive. So forgive one another with absolute truth and total love. It is a delight to him. And nothing comes to the Father except through Christ.

In my experience apologies are usually empty, or a manipulation tactic. I find people tend to apologize it because society demands it or they feel entitled that they deserve an apology, encouraging an empty apology. It’s hard to tell if the other person is genuine when they apologize, repent, or even forgive. It’s only beautiful and powerful and liberating when it’s sincere.

Definitely a point worth chewing on; rather than focus on someone not forgiving you, consider have you actually apologized or just asked to "sweep it under the rug" and pretend it didn't happen. "Let's just move on" is not apologizing

This is true. Sometimes God has to show the offender just how much they hurt the other so they can truly repent and not just move forward or sweep it under the rug. Our hearts are supposed to be soft, but offences not taken care for makes people hard hearted.

I love Jesus' patience and love for his disciples and the willingness to show difficult emotions and conversations. I love the empathy of Jesus. I do wish they also would also show Peter acknowledging his mistreatment of Matthew at times and apologize and ask for forgiveness from Matthew. This seemed one sided at the end. They both had wronged each other and both needed to apologize and extend forgiveness. Matthew did not deserve to be made fun of or mistreated by Peter. There still seems to be a power dynamic here. Peter just said "it's over" without also considering Matthew's emotions or giving him time to speak before walking away. Matthew approached Peter privately and Peter came and responded more publicly. Did they have a follow up private conversation?

forgiveness is a gift given from other person

I would say it’s a gift given to yourself. When you forgive someone who wronged you, you free yourself. Notice Peter had moved on to the point that he seemed confused when Matthew started to apologize. Matthew has held the memory and feelings inside him all this time.

Forgiving someone is never for them. It is for you. It is so you can lay your burden aside and see that person with new eyes as an innocent person so you may start anew your relationship with them and with the Creator. Sure, it does give them solace and a surcease of their pains and helps them to start anew with you, but forgiveness is an act that washes your hatred and your clinging to the past away.

When you forgive someone it's not for them it's for you so it will let your heart know it's time to move on and forward with your life no matter how much pain the other person has inflicted
