Knowing that Jesus was human and had normal relationships and normal playful conversations is so comforting. Also knowing Mary grieved her husband and her son is also comforting in a way. It shows everyone experienced loss even the mother of Jesus. Jesus did to also with losing his father.

I think the guy who played the Rabbi did an excellent job. You hear in his voice and see on his face a real struggle. One of shock, anger, sorrow, pleading, unbelief, and fear. He is about to have someone he watched grow up and taught - killed. The actor made this Rabbi a bit more of a complicated person than what he started out to be at the beginning of this episode. Kudos to him.

There was tremendous pride in being a child of Abraham. Not much went right for the Jewish people. They were under Roman occupation and they held on to the pride that they were the chosen people of God. One day God would rescue them and show the world that they were His- they were special. At tough times like this, it was all they had to hold onto. When Jesus told them their nationality wasn’t enough- wasn’t what saved them- it was more than they could take. It diminished everything they thought was special. Israel was chosen to bless be the voice and testimony of God to the nations. Their calling came with a tremendous responsibility. Instead, they took it as a point of pride and privilege. Jesus was finally shining a light on their misunderstanding and showed them the truth.

Great to bring up questions like why Jesus had to suffer. Helps us think through our beliefs. One thing is that by suffering, dying and rising again, Jesus reversed the curse of sin. The curse being that we die (physically and spiritually). It's incredible the things Jesus reversed. Think about how Adam and Eve walked away clothed by God but they had to leave because of their sin... Because of Jesus we are clothed in his righteousness and do not have to walk away because of what Christ has done. Redeemed and adopted. Beautiful. Hope that adds to the discussion.

Just thinking how many times in the Old Testament GOD was rejected by His own chosen people, and even cheated by them bowing down to idols , so this episode made me think of just how grieving this may felt to Jesus who is God in the flesh. God is long suffering for the sake of saving His sheeps! His LOVE ENDURES FOREVER GLORY TO His name
@blairstarwalt8127 ай бұрын
I think one reason Jesus had to suffer was because God wanted to show us the depth of his love, how much was paid on our behalf, and what our sin actually costs. If God just gave a blanket pardon of sin with no sacrifice, then we would grow to take it for granted. The true measure of Sin would be diluted and we as selfish people would grow content with sin knowing that forgiveness is just freely dispersed. Knowing what was paid and what I truly owe brings perspective. That perspective orients thought and behavior.

It's in old testament scripture that if someone claims to speak words that God has not commanded him to speak, they'd be known as a false prophet and the punishment is death. And scripture says a profit is never recognized in his own Hometown. Because yes as you and others were commenting they look at him as someone that they know and someone that was nothing special and so its easier for a stranger to believe in him then people that have known him his whole life.
@jorinebustraan9659 Жыл бұрын
Yes, punishment for this was death. But there should have been a meeting first (at least in the days of Jesus, according to the Pharasaic law) In this case they let their emotions take over and acted out of human motives, far more than of zeal for the Law. Legalistic, you might say. And actually, while under Roman occupation, they were not allowed to carry out any death sentence (which is also why they had to go before Pilate eventually)
@kristinerobb51097 ай бұрын
So I am new at diving into this but if someone claimed God to command someone to speak...how do others know if it really happened or not? God would only speak to that 1 person so how are they to decipher if it's real or not?

God sent His only begotten son purely out of His love for His creation. Because in the event of the fall of man, we committed, and continue to commit through sin, offenses against an infinite being, which is our Heavenly Father. We who are finite, could never produce any solution, appease, or remedy an offense against an infinite being. So God sent His Son, who willingly humbled Himself and willingly gave His life as an infinite sacrifice for our sake. In Christ's becoming human, we have been elevated to be more than just God's creation, but to now be the children of God through adoption. In His coming, Christ had not only mended man's wounded relationship with God, but He also, in love, invited us to be a part of His family.

Quite a heavy thought that he loved us so much that he became a simple mortal for us knowing all he had to do was speak a word and everything would be exactly what and how he said for it to be. Leonardo- Sorry I couldn't catch the livestream. I have a couple thoughts about the question of Jesus having brothers and sisters. There is the scripture that says at one point Jesus' brothers, sisters, mother went to "talk"/do an intervention with Jesus because they thought He had/was going mad (psychiatrically.) Someone told Jesus they were outside waiting to see Him, to which He responded with the verse rhetorically asking "Who is my mother? Brothers?" etc. Then saying that the ones who do His will are His true family. Others here have also have noted two brothers came to belief and actually wrote 2 of the letters (James and Jude) in the New Testament. I think most all Bible scholars agree there were brothers and sisters, the debate comes in how He got them. For Protestants, they believe that the verse that says Joseph "kept her (Mary) a virgin until after Jesus' birth" (did not have sexual relations with her) indicates things changed after His birth, and there is no reason to believe that Joseph and Mary did not have a normal marital relationship that produced other children. The Roman Catholic Church (possibly equivocating sexual activity with impurity) has historically maintained that Mary remained a virgin her entire life-that she was a pure vessel/person qualifying her to carry the Savior, and never was "fallen" or became impure in any fashion including sexual activity, which qualifies her to now also reside in heaven as an intercessor, and hence her title " the Virgin Mary." It is offered that the brothers and sisters were Joseph's children from an earlier marriage, and Mary was in essence a step-mother. Protestants counter that Jesus, Paul, Peter all maintained that " ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" and that " there " is one Mediator between God and man-the Lord Jesus Christ." P.S. Thanks for doing this series. I can only watch the show on You Tube on my phone, so miss much of the cinematography and sound because I also have some hearing loss and vision changes. Seeing and hearing it on your channel helps so much. Thanks for leaving the closed captioning on also! And one of the best reasons watching it here? Being with other people to watch it! Thanks, again!!!

I’m not saying it’s because of this, it’s just a thought but He probably had to suffer because there is no greater love than one dying in the place of another. And that is what every Good thing is founded on, God’s love. I think before everything else God wanted us to see and realize that He truly does love us in the most intimate, painful and beautiful way. Because of Jesus we can truly understand the concept behind “Love is Sacrifice”. “ There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:13 NLT

11:18 - there are two people Jude and James who wrote some books in the New testament that say that they are the brothers of Jesus. Now brother in Jewish could have been our brother to brother relationship or brother to cousin relationship. Protestant's usually go with brother to brother, Catholics believing in the perpetual virginity of Mary believe that they were cousins yet all who were related closely were called brother or sisters in Jewish time. Honestly we do not know and in the After party on the chosen app Dallas went into detail that he acknowledges them as being around but he does not or will not go into detail if its brother or cousin. All we know is at this time they did not believe, but later did. hope this helps.
