Infinite Respawn (trademark) versus PLENTY of Dovahkiin's counters. Marked For Death, soul trapping, Dawnbreaker and other undead-specific weapons, the Wabbajack, and the infamous OP enchantment cheesing.

@@shinymainespoon They specifically called out that losing thier soul doesn't stop Chosen Undead. Dying doesn't stop the chosen undeath. Dawnbreaker adds fear effects, but will run out of charges eventually. They don't acknowledge system exploits and glitches. And the wabbajack only functions for damage on a decent list of enemies, it might not even function. and if it doesnt will often just make things worse. The Dragonborn wins 99999/100000 times, but I'm not sure the dragonborn can permanently put them down quickly enough. excited to see though!

In their own universe there is holy damage that does bonus to undead creatures, and yet does nothing special to the CU so it is very unlikely that weapons that are good against zombies, skeletons, and ghosts will do much to the CU. Transmutation to an unliving form just sends them back to a bonfire without staying dead (you get turned wholly to stone and yet still walk it off after revive) Marked For Death only makes them easier to hurt, nothing there keeps them dead They've had their soul ripped out before. Still isn't an escape from their horrid existence Dovakiin is totally the much stronger combatant... But, I don't see any way that he can keep CU down. Looking at how they would have let Lobo keep fighting after dying if it wasn't for Ghost Rider's ability to attack the soul, it seems they likely will allow the Dark Seal to revive the CU to keep the fight going

@@followeroftheprince Frick. You make good points. Ghost Rider did indeed have a way to permanently stop Lobo and would've been doomed otherwise. Maybe there's extra lore that gives Dovah the win, maybe Undead wins by default purely from respawning.

@@followeroftheprince a reminder that both universe’s rules usually apply to the character so it doesn’t matter if in the dark souls universe they don’t count as undead if the god imbuing the Blade says that’s on dead their powers affect them, you would have to argue why Meridia wouldn’t count him as undead. The blade is meant to hurt things that specifically piss her off, if you don’t match how life is supposed to be she doesn’t like you. I think there are some counters but I honestly don’t see a way the Dragonborn can lose just be exhausted honestly. I understand the concept because both of them are supposed to be in between mortal and immortal but the Dragonborn eats immortal souls I know it says dragon but that is just because that’s the main immortals he fights. Even the way to weaken a dragon is by putting mortality in its head which it cannot comprehend.

Differences, Dragonborn gets hit by an arrow while wearing the wimpiest armor and wonders when it started drizzling. Chosen Undead gets hit by an arrow while wearing armor so good you could get it through mods/hacks/exploiting the glitchy unfinished boundaries of the game and the biggest piece left of him afterwards is his left little toe.

I can remember effects for high damage and insta-killing - Dawnbreaker is bound to hurt - but Undead will just respawn after those. -I remember the Dragonrend "cutscene" where Alduin is thrown forward in time, so in theory Last Dragonborn can do that too -Depending on access to divine intervention and First Dragonborn's immortality status, Hermaeus Mora could pop in with the KNOWLEDGE needed. Daedric tentacle monster sees all and appears as will...

Dragonrend works by basically introducing the concept of mortality to the opponent, which the Chosen Undead is very well-acquainted with. Undead know they can die, so it doesn’t mean much to them.

afaik it just depends on whether the AoE exists for longer than the i-frames last and/or is too large to get through its area in a single roll. So anything that's a shockwave or projectile-like should be fair game.

@@SKy_the_Thunder Nope. Open debug mode in Skyrim, the shouts have a very specific projectile that is released. It is not a continuous wave nor is it a huge beam. It is a very thin wave that is released for ALL OF THEM. Event he things that should be huge waves or persistent...they aren't. There is a single projectile released and if it hits then the damage ticks over time regardless. The visual doesn't match what it actually is at all in Skyrim. Which is why the most insane builds require you to cancel actions early as you already get the full effect.

As a Souls fan, I must say that the Dragonborn has the edge by far, considering its arsenal (just think of the daedric artifacts). The magic and beauty of the Chosen undead, bearer of the curse, Ashen one, etc is not that they are unstoppable machines; it is that they stand up over and over and over again and learn through the process. They do not have the story of a legend fated to be victorious; they do fail, and die and do it over and over again. What keeps our Undead from going completely hollow and losing their humanity is our will to finish the game. What makes the lore beautiful in the Souls games, is that at any point our protagonist could have quit, but they did not

being unkillable doesn't mean an easy victory, especially if they can't deal enough damage to take down the dragonborn. He's capable of using healing magic, and considering that magic regen exists, he can heal infinitely.

The question is if they only consider it a win if they STAY dead, then it comes down to if the Dragonborn has anything that can sever that. Otherwise, if there's a single way to avoid the attacks, the chose undead will eventually find it. The Dragonborn wins 9999/10000 times...but does that matter with infinite tries? Given they said the Chosen Undead can't be stopped by losing thier soul, even the Daedric Artifacts don't have anything that can shut him down. Wabbajack only does explosive damage or very specific transformations on a list targets, no guarantees as it's subject to Sheogorath's will. Dragonrend is the next best option, but it specifically functions by making the target comprehend thier mortality, negating dragonkind's specific immortality. The chosen undead is already very aware of thier mortality, so I doubt that'll work. It really is just down to a battle of wills. And Bend Will doesn't work on undead.

the main issue is not necessarily the Chosen Undead but the Dark Soul at work here specifically. It's entire thing is to thrive where other things don't. The souls of the Lords burned out and the Dark Soul grew stronger as those flames dwindled. It starts out as an underdog but inevitably dwarfs everything in the end.

Oh! I just had an awesome idea for how the fight could be framed. Have the Chosen Undead and Dragonborn meet while they're still near the start of their respective journeys in their starting gear. They scrap and the Dragon Born kills the Chosen Undead before moving on. Fast forward in time and the Dragonborn is wearing intermediate gear with some new tricks up their sleeves when they run into the Chosen Undead again, who has also found better equipment and learned more spells since their first death to the Dragonborn. Again the Dragonborn triumphs after one hell of a fight. Then we have a montage of all the times the two of them have fought throughout their respective journeys in locations from both games, each time employing a different set of skills and wearing different armour. Each and every time, the Dragonborn has won until finally, at the very end, they are old and grey but no less powerful. They stand alone at a snowy mountaintop, decked out in the finest endgame weapons and armour as they await their greatest foe and only equal, the one person worthy of sending them to Sovngarde. The Chosen Undead ascends the mountain to greet the one who has bested them time and time again, weapon in hand. The final battle commences with both sides using everything they've ever learned throughout their long, tumultuous lives. At this point it doesn't even matter who wins. The loser will get what they want: An honourable death, and rest at last.

Ya know, there is one thing I always wanted to know. Are the bonfires indestructible? Can the dragonborn shout it to pieces, thus preventing the chosen undeads resurrection? I know they fade away if an hostile is near it, or if the firekeeper 's soul is taken away, it'll go inactive, or if the coiled sword is removed.

in ds2 there are some bonfires that have their coiled sword broken, but still with some of the blade in the ash and you can still use them as normal, so I guess so long as enough of the coiled sword remains it stays active? Also, there's usually quite a number of bonfires in any given area, so the dragonborn would have to destroy them all... and this is only after they figure out that the bonfires are the source of their opponent's resurrection.

So as it turns out, the Guild have special forces made to kill rogue hunters who break the rules. The hunters are experts at fighting the many monsters in the world but have no such skills against actual humans hence their effectiveness.

Fatalis destroyed an entire civilization over night and melts castles with his fire but the Hunter somehow survives that like it's nothing. Also, as much as trick weapon can be cool Monster Hunter weapons can have way more devastating power. I think it's a close match, it can go both ways

I am a heavy researcher and really knowledgeably on Dovahkiin,I only know minimal stuff for CU. From what I have heard and seen from people who talk about Cu is that they know DB is fully capable of killing him or CU is guaranteed to to be killed. The supporters for CU mostly claim that they believe that Dovahkiin has no way of stopping CU immortality which will allow CU to eventually defeat Dovahkiin.However stats wise the best scaling for CU is Star to Universal level.If that is all he got than he is in massive trouble because at the beginning of the game Dovahkiin is already beyond Multiversal levels of power.Given that CU is Undead Dovahkiin not has artifacts and weapons that are extremely effective against the undead but all of his spells from elemental to Light magic are very effective against undead due to his passive buff that a ton literally makes spells and enchantments more effective against the Undead.On top of this Dovahkiin has a ton of enchanted gear,myriad of Soul manipulations,He can not only summon and reanimate powerful creatures he can also Banish or directly take control of his enemies Summoned or raised creatures. Overall I see this as being a wash for the Dovahkiin.

A couple of corrections, because of the nature of the Undead in Dark Souls, they are actually not weak in the slightest to light magic or holy weapons, as being Undead is, in a sense, not being one with their own darkness. Next, across the series, we've seen multiple examples of the undead protagonists being hit or dying to things meant to destroy or steal their soul, and things like being turned to stone or disintegrated, no matter what, an undead will come back to life with a completely separate body and soul, and this is true unless they hollow, which only happens if they lose all purpose, though the purpose they need can be anything, shown by Andre, a blacksmith, living for thousands, possibly millions of years just because he enjoys being a blacksmith, or Gael, who had a purpose that allowed to live from the beginning of life and death up until the end of time when all else was ash

@Anti-Life Equation not really, as there's only 4 known ways to circumvent the Curse of Undeath, the first is to link the First Flame, which created the concepts of life and death, but that comes with a problem, namely number 2, the Chosen Undead links the First Flame, as linking the flame leaves you to permanently be it's defender, also lifting the curse of undeath, number 3 is for their own humanity to go wild, namely becoming tainted by the abyss, but the Chosen Undead defeated the creator of the abyss so that doesn't really count, and 4th is of course, hollowing, which is, in most cases, a very long process, as shown with Lucatiel in Dark Souls 2, or Patches, surviving from Dark Souls 1 until past Dark Souls 3 simply because he found a purpose in being an ass, and it's only at the dreg heap, when space and time has collapsed in on itself, that he begins to go hollow, the only exception is Gael, who survived from the creation of life and death past the collapse of space and time, and only hollowed at the end of all when he finally achieved his goal, no attacks or magic can get past the curse of undeath, you can't trap an Undead, mind-control spells don't work (as shown with rapport), you just have to survive until they lose any purpose they can have, which is a problem as the whole "Chosen Undead" prophecy was actually made up, the main character just believed they were chosen hard enough to get past any obstacle

Even after being used as cannon fodder by Gwyn, he survived until the end of everything before going hollow. I’m feeling that the chosen undead will win, as they put it he can keep coming back over and over, they have no soul and with a vast pick of weapons where as the Dragonborn is limited to one life, he can’t take the soul of the chosen and his pick of weapons are cut to a smaller pool of variety the one thing I can think of in the Dragonborn’s favor is his shouts but beyond that I doubt he’ll be able to kill the chosen undead before he’s worn down

I agree. The Shouts are often just physical damage, utility for traversal, buffing companions (which are often disallowed in Death Battle), or elemental damage. These are powerful weapons, no doubt, but still just a normal day in Sen's Fortress for the Chosen Undead.

So right out of the gate, the question of this fight is if the Dragonborn actually has a way to full-on kill The Chosen Undead. Even a Black Soul Gem seemingly wouldn't work, since the Chosen Undead can continue fighting without their soul- though, the fact that the Chosen Undead's soul would be trapped in the Soul Cairn at the very least prevents the Chosen Undead from getting it back during the fight. The Dragonborn has a *lot* of ways to steal the Chosen Undead's soul, with the most effective of these being the Soul Tear shout. However, he doesn't really have any means to destroy a soul completely. As far as Souless beings in Elder Scrolls lore go, there's really only one example. Dadrea, but when they're killed they simple reincarnate. Otherwise, it's not really possible to not have a soul in Elder Scrolls lore, as not having one leaves a creature's body as an unmoving lump of flesh and bone. Even the undead in Elder Scrolls lore still have their souls. The Draugr found in Skyrim, for example, are just corpses who's souls never left their bodies due to magic from the Dragon Cult. The concept of something living without its soul is completely unknown to The Dragonborn, and he likely would have no way of fully killing the Chosen Undead. He would probably dominate a lot of the battle though, especially thanks to spells like Bane of the Undead, Guardian Circle, and Detect Dead giving him a huge advantage over the Chosen Undead. Dead Thrall might even work on the Chosen Undead, since they would technically be dead by the rules of Elder Scrolls lore. Either way, the Dragonborn has a lot of stall tactics...which, combined with his ability to steal the Chosen Undead's souls, may actually result in the Chosen Undead becoming weaker as the fight goes on and, eventually, Hallowed. Either way, Soul Gems are going to be a huge advantage for the Dragonborn, as taking the Chosen Undead's Souls would greatly weaken their power. However, I could not find a single spell or shout that could permanently destroy a soul in Elder Scrolls, so there's a very real chance that the Dragonborn loses this fight by default, having no actual way to put his opponent down for good.

I think if we want an idea of how The Chosen Undead will fight, we can think of the Soul of Cinder fight, at least the first phase. A little spear, a little greatsword, a little sorcery, etc. Though probably the most extreme examples of weapons in game. Personally, I got a lot of mileage out of the Fume Knight Greatsword.

The Thu’um is such a crazy power it gives the Dragonborn automatic advantage no matter the situation. Near a cliff? you know what happens. Gets kicked off said cliff instead? Become Ethereal. Bend Will to control the Chosen Undead for a death, Marked for Death to make them weaker, and if he gets injured, he has the power to call upon not 1, but 2 dragons, one of them also being Undead.

I'm a mega fan of the Souls series, and I'm fully read on all the available lore from hundreds of peoples perspective, I know all there is to know about every rock in these games. I'm a bit of an Elder Scrolls fan too, I love the lore a lot, and boy is there a lot of lore. So here's some insight; as much as I would want the chosen undead to win, Dovahkiin has the power to reshape reality with their voice and bend it's very laws to their will. He can speak Death into the chosen undead and successfully unalive them by bending the reality of the Dark Sign. Just. By. Speaking. Dovahkiin is a reality bending time-monster in human form that will definitely win. I love Dark Souls and I know full well how powerful the chosen undead is, but against Dovahkiin is a fight that not even prime Gwyn would win. The only way to actually win here is for the chosen undead to exploit their immortality and crush Dovahkiin's throat; because in a straight melee the chosen undead could actually win. Even then, Dovahkiin can heal themselves, so the fight has to be ended before Dovahkiin could use the Thu'um again. Now I'm off to play more Elden Ring. Oh, the Tarnished might've been able to do better than the chosen undead, they're also Deathless because the rune (words) of death were removed from the Elden Ring. Buuut, Dovahkiin could just ''speak'' it back into the Ring I suppose.

This doesn't really work because the undead are already broken from reality and time, it's why in dark souls 2 they can take an elevador from a windmill and end up in the middle of a volcano. Reality bending doesn't affect the undead because they are outside of reality.

The undead in the undead asylum are not outside of time, Lordran itself is. In Lordran time has little meaning, and the people in it can walk right into the past and future. Here's the deal: the Choosen Undead is a being that has suffered death after death and keeps coming. They are also a jack of all trades in weapons and has killed those who claim to be gods. I dont know much about the Dragonborn, but I have a feeling this fight is gonna be close. That being said if the Dragonborn was fighting the Pale Blood Hunter or a Tarnished it would be a different story. One has fought at least three gods and the other fights demigods on a regular basis.

@@Fingleberrys Elder Scrolls is a cosmically very small story, actually. Nirn is the mortal realm, they don't have suns or stars, and the daedric realms are limited in nature. I'm not saying the gods aren't more powerful but any cosmic scale in the Elder Scrolls is incredibly small in comparison to other stories because cosmically there's nothing. So they can warp reality? It's a small reality.

Which matters because there's a list of strong enemies that the wabbajack can only do explosive damage to, and certain people will always have the same transformation. Or special ones, like mudcrabs just growing in size sometimes. So it's up in the air on whether Sheogorath wants to help, and if he even CAN transform them if he wanted to.

In reality tcu would win simply because the dragon born can't counter the fact that the chosen undead is completely unfazed by anything ldb could use against it as tcu's revival is actually time manipulation that is on par with shouts. But it depends on how much they understand dark souls lore and what limitations they put on the chosen undead. So many of ldb abilities are useless or outright give advantages to tcu (like conjuration) and it all comes down to if they think bend will works on the chosen undead

@@redskull2011 he would regain his original form (being cursed literally turns you to stone and blows you away in the wind) yet again it comes down to how much they understand dark souls lore because tcu has defeated reality bending foes before (manus literally reaches through time to find you) like in not denying ldb power but he simply doesn't have a counter to tcu revival and tcu can also negate magic (vow of silence) whether that works on shouts is up for debate yes tcu would "die" but every time without fail he gets back up as long as he has the will to do so

When i saw that the chosen undead was going up against the dragonborn i instantly thought the dragonborn would win but now im remembering just how dangerous the chosen undead is with their curse to come back to life, the dragonborn has everything else going for them but the chosen undead is constantly outmatched, this may be an even fight

@@gravelordnito38 Incorrect, that was just his soul. According to him, Azura, and the fact that you literally see his body still in the overworld, it was just the soul. It's a SOUL gem, and the chosen undead doesn't NEED a soul. None of the other daedric weapons matter either. They either trap souls (pointless), kill undead easier (useful but doesn't stop the Chosen), or are the Wabbajack. Which is not actually random, it's the will of Sheogorath. Which is why for many creature types or characters it just refuses to work or only chooses 1 specific effect. Can't count on Sheogorath to actually help, or even be able to depending on where the fight takes place.

Glad they mentioned the undead, while they can be crushed and stabbed, their bones are insanely durable and never seem to break or dislocate. And i read it in a fanfiction, but our character, depending on our background, doesn't know any fighting style. It just know to swing a weapon and copy moves if it can. Which explains most of the wide swings and haymaker-like attacks. Also the undead are supernaturally stronger than a normal human.

@Vervet Wrydavigy it's a crossover- fanfiction actually, it's of Dark Souls×Familiar of Zero, "Twisted Reflections". If you enjoy cynicism, reality checks, and close to in character accuracy of both the game and the anime/manga, this is one of them. And it's the most well liked of this kind of crossover with each other. I'll be honest with you, it's a rough start to read, mostly because the author tried to enter game mechanics in combat like stats and all. But he quickly learned to drop it after reviewers complained that it made the fanfic worse. So he takes criticism and rework things and it has become better and better. But yeah, this guy is insane when it comes how undead works and how it mesh well in FoZ. Also, and this is one of my personal interests, but this isn't one of those power trips that this character is OP in another world. This is one of those stories that the character is OP to the max in one world, and shipped into another world as a Deprived. And it's justified.

This one is really hard to judge since you're using the Dragonborn, and it's impossible to say which version is most accurate so far. We don't know exactly what armor he wears, what weapons, spells or shouts he favors, and even whether or not either of those characters can stay dead. The Chosen has his reforming ability, but it's hard to be sure how much it takes to wear that out, and the Dragonborn is never completely confirmed as to whether or not he can just eat dragon souls for sustenance like Miraak. There's also the consideration that Miraak is written as being partially the cause of splitting the entire island of Solstheim from Skyrim, which means the Dragonborn's durability needs to be enough to compete with that in order to actually beat him. One character here has a confirmed method of potentially just being impossible to actually kill, while the other has so many potential variations, it's impossible to say for certain which version of him is canon. And how do you decide if it's a vampire lord, a werewolf, or neither? Personally, I'm leaning toward the Chosen being the winner despite how overpowered any version of the Dragonborn is, simply because soul trap won't be enough to get a permanent kill, and there's no concrete method by which the Dragonborn is definitely able to outlast that reforming indefinitely.

​@@EchoAwakens you're working under the assumption that the DB can figure out that determination is what's keeping the chosen undead alive. What would the CU do to convey that to him? Just because he keeps returning to fight doesn't mean the dragonborn will suddenly think "if I just tell him he's no longer determined to fight me, he'll die." You know that, but the DB has no clue why this person keeps returning to kill him.

@@justinccole0990 Regardless, the dragonborn can indefinitely stall the fight with a few different methods. Stopping time, banishing to the soul cairn, becoming ethereal, paralyzing/freezing indefinitely. soul tear isnt the ONLY win con the dragonborn has.
