Yeah so many older folks get mush brain as they age, but Ralph is pretty consistent. To think he's been championing liberties since the early Sixties, if not sooner! I wasn't pleased he put confidence in the Dems this last election but glad he has self reflection

Holy shit, Mr Nader is still at it. He's older than anyone in my family ever got to, and he's still at it. I'm not even American and I respect the man. In old Yuma one old retired man used the referendum system and stopped the building of a huge indoor sports arena for which they were about to put out to bid without any discussion amon the citizens. He got a bunch of retired guys to collect signatures and who were threatened with arrest and had their locations barricaded, etc. I complained about this to high ups in the city government and had my historic buildings “red tagged” a few days later informing me to cease and desist all of my activities immediately-which I ignored of course. His referendum was successful and had the projected sports arena put on the ballet and the project was defeated. Why? Because 1) the people weren’t consulted, and 2) the City of Yuma already had a large baseball stadium that has been sitting empty for 20 years and is used only one weekend each year! It was stupid and was pushed by “the Yuma Twenty” and their lackeys in City Government! Use the Referendum! Listen to Nader. Get into action locally. You have power-but only if you act! Just loving these men is silly! Love must Act-or it is just another self delusion. Jay Warren Clark

I can vouch for the fact I was not taught how to participate in government and democracy other than voting , which I don't usually. I'm 54. Actually this hurt and rescue idea, which I have not heard of, is exactly the right wing conservative politicians strategy of fear mongering . Which is why we never hear a plan of action from them. Why? Because they believe the status quo is just fine.

@@shivathedestroyer2816: Yes you are right and Canada is in a mess. I listened to a bit of the hearings on the use of the "Emergencies Act" during the Convoy protest and some of the behavior and policies that were carried out under that Act were as stupid, unCanadian, and frightful as anything that was happening in Germany in the 1930 and later! And it's no different here in the U.S. Someone shouts, "Lions, and Tigers, and Bears, Oh my!" and everyone volunteers to give up their Civil Rights and do what the idiots in Washington say! We have become a nation of sheep. Frankly I'm high up in the hills and have a field of view for 500 yards all around and that's how optimistic I am. Of course I am a Teacher and I keep speaking to people trying to wake them up, but I am out of the cities entirely now. And I recommend that everyone who can do the same. The people in power are as monstrous as they are stupid. Take care. JWC
@jayclark2077
@jayclark2077 2 жыл бұрын
@@hanleyk: Actually Nader mentioned it briefly and also said that they don't teach this stuff in schools. It is a system like a petition, perhaps by other names as well, where you go to your local government, city or county or I suppose even the state, and take out papers to collect signatures to put something on the ballet for example. I suppose you will have to write up the idea or your intention, etc., and then put people around the city to collect signatures. It's a way to go around government and act directly as and by the People. No one mentions it because the Powers-that-be are afraid of it--for obvious reasons. And if you go to the city office and they say they don't have such a system, don't believe them. People lie and in general the various bureaucracies, city, county, state, and federal feel nothing but contempt for the People. They are the new class of Lords and Ladies and most of them are really stupid and contemptible people. There is great power in this system, and there is no reason to be embarrassed about not knowing. People just don't get together and discuss what our situation actually is and what power we have to fix it ourselves. Add to that the fact that we are divided along phony Party Lines, as Nader also mentioned, and don't talk to each other. But we have all been lied to and need to repeat that like the times tables so that we can get back to the Biblical idea of what a Neighbor is, eh? Take care Kerry. Jay Warren Clark

I remember hearing Ralph Nader once define democracy as "participation in power" and hearing him speak here with Chris Hedges, he clearly reinforced, for me, why it is so important that we get actively involved in politics if we want to have ANY chance of bringing about any progressive changes in this country. I am always, a little shocked that Nader is just as coherent, let alone passionate, at an age where most of us would no doubt be in decline. Citizen advocate...never have I witnessed a truer one.

I admire Ralph greatly and agree with him, but I will also say every attempt I have made to try to work with local political groups has been beyond discouraging. I have been constantly confronted with rigidly cultish "vote blue no matter who" group think. To propose direct action or -- God forbid -- ask a question is met with shrugs at best and usually open "how dare you" hostility. I tried working with the state and national Peoples Party and that was a complete cluster-f. In the past I did political cartooning for Ralph's group and recently I offered to do so again. Ralph announced it on his Radio Hour but none -- none -- of his staff would get back to me, and I can't get through to him. Ralph, if you see this and want my help, let me know. The country is circling the drain and I honestly don't know what to do.

I did too regretfully as our country is not yet set up strategically for this to work and instead we helped a republican win. I recall looking back even Nador said it was an error to run. Voting for a candidate is not always a love letter for them but instead is a strategic move such is the case where we are right now. We must get republicans in a weak spot and make demands on the democrats to get out of their comfort zone of the as usual.

Wow, this teacher has been on the job all my life, it seems. I am 84, a former 1963 CORVAIR owner, knowing lives saved by seat belts, still getting civics education from the master. The miracle of a media public square that BENEFITTED from a draconian sequestering is creating a contagion of learning. I KNOW I am not alone in believing in the American people. Ralph Nader does. The issue is, do we CREATE Truth or do we TRUST truth. Republicans are voting for CREATING truth. Talk about a house built on sand!

I agree totally with Ralph. The left who has a chance through independent media to promote each other's causes, and what organizers are doing. But most independent progressive independent media i.e.. TYT "independent" media only want to promote their label, and promote right wing podcasts, Fox etc, under the false premise that they are questioning their beliefs. When actually they are promoting the right wing to get their viewership. So yes, Ralph is correct it's time to get away from explaining the negative of the right wing, something most of us are aware of, and promote the positive of the left wing groups, podcasts, organization, etc etc.

I have been to local caucus and community meetings where the process is consumed and dominated by a few persons who skew the conversation into pointless dithering. Their reasoning appears pointless and frustrates the attempts of many to discuss the problems which action by the candidate could better or remedy. And then one learns, they are on retainer by those whose intent is to disrupt any attempt to attack or to regulate the expansion of their economic power or economic conduct. This is the consequence of Corporate Personhood and of the allowing of the escape of those of enormous wealth from any taxation. I am afraid that the redress of grievances by the people of the nation cannot be had by civil means. Nor do I think such a redress will be had, given the the advancements in technology possessed by the uber elite of the empire to surveil, manipulate, and control the rest of us, and to control the choices allowed to us. Despite this, I hope that I am wrong and that Mr. Nader is correct.

Chris...I admire and respect your intellect and perspective above most others and therefore I listen closely to every word you say. You said something, however, that needs correction. 10:36 vice president (Biden) is pretty appalling from supporting Anita Hill... Of course it was a slip of the tongue, because you know, as do I, that Biden excoriated Hill on the stand, in the apparent effort to appoint a radical right wing ideologue, Clarence Thomas, a Reagan nominee, to the Supreme Court. It began or furthered the process of establishing a reactiionary SCOTUS culminating into what it is today. What side of the isle was Biden on, during that appointment hearing? Either Biden has been able to whitewash the history of his horrendous, political motivations and/or the True Blue electorate have been effectively lobotomized to the schizophrenic, dissociative personality disorder that defines his character.

This is on those of us who are here. No one else I was a Republican for a long time. At 18 years old I voted for Reagan. My first election. I believe that trickle down economics would work. It made sense to me. If the corporation's supply the jobs than they deserved tax breaks. They deserved special consideration. If the company does well of course that would mean that the employee does well. I couldn't have been more wrong. Our government needs to be overhauled. We have to get big money out of the picture. There needs to be a hard cap on every election. If it's violated then that person is out. Lobbyists are bloodsucking vampires. They need to be rained in. I voted for Biden and I'm glad I did. I'm an independent voter at this point and I have reengaged in politics. Only the people can fix this. We are the ones who allowed our government to be taken by people that have no interest in the American people.
