@@MoviesinDepth Also of context- not mentioned in the book, but would have been understood by the original audience- they have been on rations for YEARS at this point. People saved for months to have enough vouchers to make birthday cakes. Edmund has not had sugar beyond that since he was LITTLE. Turkish delight might be the last candy he can remember haveing before war wrecked everything. And then add witch magic addictiveness. And nieve kid who didn’t believe she could be that bad until the wolves run past. Like… everyone hates Edmund the first time they meet him, I know I did. And then you think about his age and the situation for a bit and yeah… it’s messed up.

12:03 Please dont forget Edmund is a 10 year old boy in 1940 during world war 2 when there was sugar rationing and had been sent away to some stranger's house with his siblings who (particularly the elder 2) were being real jerks and had no idea that the seemingly kind lady offering the turkish delight was the literal embodiment of evil who would kill his family and himself once she no longer had any use for them.
@CatarinaMaia1619

Yes! People are so harsh to Edmund and forget he's a LITERAL CHILD in the middle of a war. Also, I'm pretty sure it's explained in the book that the turkish delight that the White Witch gives him is enchanted and will consume the eater's thoughts until they get it again. Poor boy is like a heroin addict looking for his next fix, and he doesn't really get that the White Witch is evil at that point, so to blame him for selling out his family for candy is just wrong.... Of course most people who only watch the movie don't know that tidbit, but still, hes a child, hes going to make mistakes! the others aren't perfect... except maybe Lucy (for now).

14 years is how long they spent in Narnia before going back, they were all in their early twenties at the time. Also fun fact, since you mentioned Peter Pan; the girl who plays Susan auditioned for Wendy but didn't get it, however her younger brother played Michael in the film. Another fun sibling fact is that the older version of Lucy is played by the actor's actual sister.

Actually it's funny that you made the comparison with Harry Potter because there are some fans (inculding me) who really like to think of them as the four Hogwarts' founders So Lucy is Helga Hufflepuff (her kindness and empathy), Susan is Rowena Ravenclaw (her wisdom and smartness), Edmund is Salazar Slytherin (he is cunning and also really good at reading others actions: qualities that are shown later) and Peter is Godric Gryffindor (his title gives it all: The Magnificient, that totally sums up a Gryffindor) And it is strangely accurate

CS Lewis and Tolkien were contemporaries of each other at Oxford. They and a few other literary types from Oxford had a club called The Inklings. They met in a local pub. They read each other stories they were writing... encouraged the writing of fantasy stories, etc. So Tolkien and CS Lewis and others were basically reading each others stuff and making suggestions. Narnia and Lord of the Rings are the OGs of the Fantasy genre.. Everything else copied them. Just as Dune is the OG of the science fiction genre and everything else copies it. Tilda Swinton does such a great job as the White Witch. Lewis late in his teens rejected Christianity and lived as an atheist. It was a decade or so later that he kind of accepted general theism. And it was while a member of The Inklings that his good friend J.R.R. Tolkien converted him back to Christianity. Though those who knew him while he was writing the Narnia Chronicles often said that while Christian symbolism played a large part in his stories, they were not written as Christian stories, but always as fables first. They're kind of a blend of his new found faith and his life long passion of myth, fable, narrative storytelling.

Good to see you enjoy this movie, it’s a great adaptation of some of my favourite books. One thing that is better explained in the books is that the Witch’s food is enchanted if I remember correctly so while Edmund is a pretty bad person at the start he’s not completely awful. Also, if you read the first book, The Magician’s Nephew you get an explanation for why the professor seems to know about the wardrobe and see more about the Witch as well. My favorite part about Narnia is that it isn’t an “allegory” per se, but actually a multiverse series. Narnia is supposed to be an alternate reality, but God is bigger than any universe he creates so Aslan don’t just “represent” Jesus - he literally IS Jesus! He even says, “In your world I go by another Name. You must learn to know me by that Name.” Aslan, true ruler of Narnia, Son of the Emperor-Over-The-Seas, Long may He reign.

And watching it makes me happy not only because I love the story and characters, but also because some of the pictures for the film were shot in my country. Both parts - the lion, the witch and the wardrobe and prince caspian - were shot in one of the Polish mountain ranges and if I'm not mistaken, in this movie it's the scene where children and beavers walk across a frozen river.

I remember reading or hearing somewhere that the reason we shake hands is because in medieval times a sword was normally sat on a soldier's non-dominant side so it could easily be grabbed by the dominant hand (most likely the right). Shaking with the right hand when meeting someone was a sign of goodwill and truce, since you can't draw your sword on someone when your dominant hand is occupied.

The reason we shake hands when we first meet is actually rather simple. It originated as clasping forearms which was a way to make sure there wasn't a hidden weapon up there sleeve, over time the people who trusted each other only half heartedly would clasp hands which evolved into shaking hands.

THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH FOR REACTING TO THIS!! This franchise was my entire childhood, alongside Harry Potter. Amazing video. Keep going! Btw, Narnia fan giving Narnia facts coming ahead... Please, you don't need to read them all if you don't want to, this is extremely long, sorry!! 2:23 Yes! It was World War II and the train scene was the first one they filmed on June 23, 2003 (I swear, it's worrying that I know the date) 2:31 This Narnia movie was actually Disney's highest grossing film of 2005! 3:21 Nope, in this movie not. But I'm telling you, after this one, Edmund becomes the best character in the whole franchise, mostly in the books. His character development is amazing. “But even a traitor may mend, I have known one that did” -Edmund Pevensie 3:44 This is actually Georgie Henley's (Lucy) real reaction. They blindfolded her before entering the set, and started filming when she entered it for the first time. 3:51 There is! It's explained in one of the books (which unfortunately doesn't have a movie) but long story short, that lamppost came from London and the one who put it there by accident, was the White Witch, a century before Lucy stepped for the first time in Narnia. The only ones who saw it, were Digory Kirke (Yes, the professor) alongside his friend, Polly Plummer, when they were kids. But C. S. Lewis (the author) main idea to put a lamppost over there was because he made a bet with J. R. R. Tolkien (author of LOTR) who was his best friend, because he said it was impossible that a fantasy world had a lamppost in it. 6:04 He is the lion I- HAHAHA 7:20 HE IS HERE TOO HAHAHAHA 7:53 Ok, something that they never mention in the movies, but the books describes, is that the hot chocolate and the turkish delight were enchanted. They would make Edmund obsessed with them, therefore, he would search them no matter what. She basically drugged him. Which still is no excuse to be mean to your family, since 10-year-old Edmund approached her and was interested without them at the beginning. But the decision to sell his family and betray them, wasn't made with him being “sober”. 7:48 I had the same question, but it actually makes sense. In WWII, candy was limited since it was given to the soldiers who were on the field, so people at the time rarely ate chocolate or some other sort of candy. And of course, as a child, this would be one of the first things you will ask for if you haven't eaten one for months. BUT A FUN FACT ABOUT THIS PART OF THE MOVIE is that Skandar Keynes (Edmund) had to eat 37 pieces of turkish delight for this scene. He hasn't even tried them again after that. 9:39 Would you believe me if I told you that the majority of the locations that you see here, are real? Except from the entrance of Narnia and the White Witch Castle and some others where you can see the difference in the background, they filmed this in New Zealand. The second movie is the one where each location you see, is real, with no exception. 10:18 The director of Shrek is the same one of Narnia HAHAHA 11:28 No wonder why both authors were best friends… 18:36 I'm sorry, but I can't with this too HAHAHA 19:11 PREACH 21:44 I think you know it already by the comments, but yeah, there's the theory about them being the four founders of Hogwarts. And although maybe a lot of people already told you that Edmund is a Slytherin and Susan a Ravenclaw, in the books, your predictions are all right! 22:14 15 years, to be exact... 22:54 PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, WE BEG YOU. YOU'LL LOVE THEM. PLEASE. 23:03 Lucy entering Narnia, the coronation and for some reason, the transition to the battle sequence with the map and the soundtrack on the back, chef kiss. -There are 7 books in total and if you read them in chronological order, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is the second one, actually. But in publication order, it is the first one. Disney made the movies following the publication order. -The audition for the 4 Pevensies took 18 months for the kids. The most creepy thing is that in her first audition, Georgie Henley was asked which of her family members would she eat first, if she was in a desert without food. She was 6 at the time... But also to achieve a genuine performance, they didn't allow Skandar Keynes (Edmund) to meet the other three actors (who already knew each other) until they were on set, to have him more uncomfortable and isolated for his character. Again, thank you so so so much for this!!

These movies were always super special to me! I love that the cast are still in touch to this day! They did a reunion a year or two ago and it was amazing to see them all together again! Georgie Henley (Lucy) has grown into a beautiful young woman! I still have hopes they someday do another Narnia movie. There's a book focused on the Pevensie siblings' time as rulers before they returned to the real world. Would love to see them all reunite to do a movie adaption of that! Although I think Skandler (Edmund) no longer acts so I don't know if it's a possibility.

The professor is named Diggory, and is in fact the main character in the book the magician's Nephew, one thing he does in that story is bring an apple from Narnia back to our world that has the ability to cure his ailing mother. After curing her he plans the core which grown an apple tree. While the apples are not magic or have healing powers like the original there the best apples around. Once the tree gets cut down some years later the wood is used to make the wardrobe in which the kids travel to Narnia on this movie.

So in Sunday school my sister and I really didn't want to talk about the bible, so we convinced our teacher to let us watch these movies in class since they're based on the bible. The teacher was really curious about what Turkish delights were and decided to make some so we could have them in class, and she really enjoyed making them. This actually led to her starting her own business where she made and sold Turkish delights.

I love that you’ve reacted to this movie!! I don’t think there are many reactions, so thank you so much for doing this! I would LOVE to see you react to the sequels!! 😄 I love the movie, but I can’t think of a favorite part. I will talk about one moment though (warning for possibly heavy topic), you know that part when they escaped on the frozen river? When they got back on land, they noticed Peter didn’t have Lucy with him, only her coat, and there was a brief moment of panic with Susan shouting at Peter (if I remember correctly). Then there’s the relieving moment when Lucy shows up and Peter places her soaked coat on her, which to me felt like trying to make up for an almost tragic situation. I describe this part to say, as an oldest sibling, I could FEEL that alarming situation, and maybe even how Peter felt in that moment. The possibility of a younger or youngest sibling in danger when YOU should’ve been watching them. It is TERRIFYING. This might be one of the only moments where I feel like I can actually connect/relate to in media 😰 Sorry for that downer, and thank you again for this video! If you did react to Peter Pan, I’ll go watch that video too, because I love that movie as well!! (Edit) Oh wait! There IS a possible favorite part of mine! When Aslan says, “Don’t cite the Deep Magic to ME, Witch. *I was there when it was written.* “

You're almost right, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is the originator of most British fantasy stories. C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien (Lord of the Rings) were buds and wanted to create some type of folklore for England since most of it was lost. Plus they were both Christians and put a lot of hidden meanings in their stories related to the Bible.

Ok I have two things to say, so bare with me. First I wanna talk about the lamppost, I've seen several people explain the lore reasons why there is one but not the reason that the author put it in the book in the first place. So, fun fact: Tolkien and Lewis were friends, and Tolken made the comment that "no good fantasy story would have a lamppost," so Lewis put one in his story xD Second, Edmund is my favorite character, and in the first movie my heart hurts for him. He asks for turkish delight because it's during ww2 where they couldn't have sugar and a bunch of other things, so that's the first thing he asks for, his favorite candy (also its enchanted candy). But what breaks my heart is that when he is captured, you actually get to see what kind of person he really is. As soon as he realizes what kind of person she really is, his tune about her changes. She is abusing him and hurting him, but he is still tries to protect people. How? He tries his best (he's like 10) not to tell her where his family is but then she threatens Tumnas who he put there in the first place and he tells her some info to protect him. Sadly she turns him to stone anyway. Same with the fox, he tries to protect the fox. He really is kind hearted, even though this woman is abusing him he still is trying to protect people from her. He only let's out new information when someone is being threatened. It breaks my heart when he thinks he has to go with the Witch again. The actor does an amazing job 👏 👏 👏

Mr Tumnus has a Pan's flûte because satyres play music in mythology and this instrument was created by the greek god Pan who is a satyre himself. The " floating flower " is a dryad, a nymph of the trees. Oh, and for answering at your question, they stay in Narnia during 15 years. Fun fact : the two actresses playing Lucy in the movie (child and adult) are sisters in the real life You should watch " The little vampire " because Anna Popplewell (Susan) plays on it (she was very young)

The lamp-post was actually dragged into narna by the professors unkle I think? Or maybe the professor... But when he was a kid he witnessed aslán creating narnia and accidentally brought a bar from a lamp with him as well as the white witch his evil unkle a horse and 2 civilians. The bar got stuck in the ground and as aslan sang the lamp grew like a tree. The wardrobe didn't exist yet so they travelled by magic rings which were buried beneath the tree that became the wardrobe
