Honestly... Considering that Atari and Universal have _finally continued their partnership_ and that the former owns Nightdive, anything could happen with the Riddick games. But for now, we have to make do with pirated copies of them (or physical ones if we have consoles like the Xbox Classic, Xbox 360 and PS3). And that stinks because Butcher Bay and Dark Athena were my first big boy games with adult content like violence and swearing, and by god was it good. They got me into the Riddick universe, and they still hold up as the best movie-based games that don't involve James Bond. The amount of Metal Gear Solid 2-style non-linear approaches to a linear problem encourage you to experiment and think like how Riddick himself would, and the variety of stuff you do throughout is varied and fun, even if Dark Athena leans harder into action much like the film sequels (Dark Fury and Chronicles) did.

This game holds a special place in my nostalgia and to see that the original version looks even better than I remembered is delightful. This is one of the first games I point to when I bring up to my friends how important it is to have access to abandonware, alongside Unreal Tournament.

@@n-tertainmentx-tended4760 Well, to be fair, people probably didn't give it a chance because it was a licensed game, and this was one of the only licensed games to not suck because vin diesel wasn't just acting during its production, he was also allegedly overseeing development of the project, since he's a gamer himself and wanted it to be good.

i feel the remaster adds a lot to the tone, feels dirtier, grungier, more opressive which fits the atmosphere of a supermax prison in the riddick universe

You certainly have an interesting point of view. I like the sharper graphics of the original, but the remaster certainly does add to the atmosphere.

RPCS3 version has a glitch halfway through where you play as the drone’s and take them over in a chair. When Roddick jumps into the seat it just goes to a red screen. Be aware that if you get past this part, it’s still a fun good game but the only way to get through it is EXTREEEME amounts of patients, trial and error, as you are literally only able to see if you pause and unpause the menu a billion times at the speed of light 😂

I managed to get pass the inital crash error but my mouse is not working in game and my Xbox One controller is acting very strange. The directions and the whole camera is acting weird. Left stick is right stick, etc. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks in advance!

I played both versions and my conclusions are the same. Even the "improvements" the Remake brings are not worth all the downsides. It totally changes the graphical vision of the designers.

Im only play the Dark Athena one, and never touch the Butcher Bay remake because i've finished playing it during its original release windows and dont want to ruin that memory. (Seeing butcher bay graphic with my modest Pentium 4 2,4A and Radeon 9550 honestly make me in awe because a couple year prior we dont have that kind of graphic fidelity on PC with sharp stencil shadow, bump mapping, shader 2.0,etc. btw, Im not yet play Doom 3 at the time of this game release though, only Half Life 2, which is next gen but still depends on bake light most of the time)

Dark Athena has a more emotional story. Butcher Bay is definitely a bit wilder on the gameplay side. Both games have their merits.

It's not so cut and dry to intimate that the remake is ostensibly better than the original. If you continue watching the video, you'll see what my point is.

I'm still on Win7 64 bit with an nVidia card and have no problem running the game. The original PC release is in my opinion the superior way to experience Riddick. The additions and visual changes in the remake look disgusting to me. What neither of the version does is improve the lack of replayability the game has.

Today you need a 4090 to get the same level of sharpness gamers already had on a high-end PC in 2008 with a Nvidia card. The graphic of Riddick is absolutely gorgeous not only for its time, for today as well..............and Im talking about the output of a "obsolete" Geforce 9800 here. So yeah, why not spend 3000,-€ or more on the next gpu? 🤔
