After hiding out on a frozen planet for five years, Riddick (Vin Diesel) is finally tracked down by a bounty hunter named Toombs (Nick Chinlund).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Vin Diesel returns as the nocturnally gifted antihero Riddick in this sequel to the 2000 cult item Pitch Black. Riddick, on the run from the law and evading mercenaries eager to claim the price on his head, seeks refuge on the planet of Helion, only to discover he's walked into a world in chaos. Helion has been seized by the Lord Marshall (Colm Feore), leader of the Necromongers, a race of bloodthirsty warriors determined to wipe out humanity throughout the universe. Aereon (Judi Dench), leader of Helion's "elementals," pleads with Riddick to join them in their fight for survival; Riddick agrees, hoping to fill out some of the blank chapters in his history along the way. Love this movie. It is one of those rare gems that was completly underrated. The grim atmosphere, the soundtrack, the cast, the action, the vast number of badass moments, the villains....it was all good. There was not a boring moment in that movie. To this day I have no idea why it wasn't a massive success. Ppl got no taste these days.

Makes sense for a light weight ship like that. Instead of adding the additional armor and electronics etc etc. Just adds weight, especially considering the ship seems to have VTOL capabilities which means weight balancing is that much more important ^^

The reason I like these movies so much is cause they felt so 80s-ish. Even the dialogue and how the actors like Tombs delivered there lines. Had Alien/Predator character vibes to it.

A lot of people think the ship is DESIGNED to strap gunners to the sides like that but its more likely that the ship is just a troop transport and the Mercs DIY'ed some straps onto the sides for hunting their targets.

This is one of those rare cases when people throwing around the term 'underrated' (which somehow applies to even the most popular things nowadays) are actually correct. This movie is underrated, and is quite full of awesome.

@@pfalky2k Excellent point. I shoulda said that. All the Riddick movies, and the videogame too, are pretty badass. The second movie borders on silly - 'Necromongers' is a very silly name for the badguys, and they're pretty stock standard, but Vin Diesel is just so good as Riddick, and the character is so cool that it ends up being awesome anyway. The 3rd movie is kind of a return to the roots kinda thing, but that just means it's awesome. 😊

@@lk6912 No. Different planet but pretty much the same circumstances. Riddick is being chased by Bounty Hunters. He crashes on a planet loaded with vicious space monsters that only appear at a certain time. Everything jumps off in the final act of the movie - monsters vs bounty hunters vs Riddick. There's a few twists and pretty much everyone dies. The movie ends with potential for a Part 4, which I would totally be down for.

The third guy definitely was killed. Rocks broke his fall. Riddick wasn't purposely saving them. It's more accurate to say he didn't care, he just wanted the ship. All he had to do was cut a strap/ pull a guy out the door. Gravity did the rest. By this point, Riddick is in survival mode. Though he does occasionally kill for sport (the tea cup was him entertaining jack and killing him quickly got the idea across to the rest to piss off).

I don´t think Riddick has respect for him. He rarely has some respect for anyone and Toombs is no real danger for him. He caught him only when he wanted to be caught. It seems more like Toombs is such a loser for Riddick that he even doesn´t bother to kill him because it´s more funny when he´s alive. :D The only mercs Riddick had respect for were daddy Johns and Dahl. They were obviously professionals with professional gear. BTW are the bounty hunters a real thing in the USA or is it only movie stuff?

There were some rumors about TV series called Merc City, which should be about mercs from Riddick´s universe but I don´t know if Toombs would be there too or if the series will ever be made. But this universe is so cool and interesting there could be made endless number of spin-offs and backstories. Unfortunatelly this is probably never gonna happen because it´s not mainstream, commercially extra-successful stuff.

Onboard my old destroyer we used to love watching pitch black, riddick and ff so much that our captain went to IT and confiscated all VD movies, so for a long time the only place we could see VD when our ship was at sea was at the end of tokyo drift once a week on sundays (since the captain diddnt know about thr cameo)
