Riddick (Vin Diesel) reunites with an old friend (Keith David) who believes Riddick could be from an extinct race that could stop a new threat to the universe.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Vin Diesel returns as the nocturnally gifted antihero Riddick in this sequel to the 2000 cult item Pitch Black. Riddick, on the run from the law and evading mercenaries eager to claim the price on his head, seeks refuge on the planet of Helion, only to discover he's walked into a world in chaos. Helion has been seized by the Lord Marshall (Colm Feore), leader of the Necromongers, a race of bloodthirsty warriors determined to wipe out humanity throughout the universe. Aereon (Judi Dench), leader of Helion's "elementals," pleads with Riddick to join them in their fight for survival; Riddick agrees, hoping to fill out some of the blank chapters in his history along the way. If you pay attention you will notice that Riddick did not kill any of the soldiers in this fight. The soldiers basically shot each other in the dark while Riddick only knocked those left alive unconscious with those wooden candle holders.

That's weird. In the version released here in Australia, and the DVD copy I bought, the shot where he extinguishes the candles is a fraction longer, and he says "You're not afraid of the dark are you? The light hurts my eyes."

Yes, this was part of the original DVD release. The 'Extended' / 'Directors' cut edition cut the 'The light hurts my eyes' part & also overdubbed the actual quote in question. The original was far more intimidating.

Apparently that's the plot of the 4th Riddick film that Diesel has a script for and ready to go as of a year or two ago. At this point I guess he's focused on Fast and Furious films to bother with Riddick for the time being.

There must've been some pretty powerful necromongers if they killed a whole planet of furyans at one point. I'd assume Riddick is on the higher spectrum, but even still, I know the necromongers recieve 'random' new abilities from visiting the underverse, I'd wonder how many of them were more powerful than lord Marshal? I'd assume Lord Marshal is like at the high end of the necromonger scale, but I'd also predict that with an enormous fighting force, that at least ten or so must have been stronger than him, or had different abilities that made them extremely capable of killing furyans.

Just to clarify to everyone saying and that was just one furyan. Not all furyan's where like riddick they where a normal race essentially. Nothing too different about them. The different one is riddick.

Supposedly, even the average Furyan was a little tougher & faster than normal humans. Riddick is an Alpha, which is a special sub-race. Each generation gets a few, and they're even tougher, stronger, and faster than the regular Furyans. The eye-shine and energy thing that appeared in the director's cut of Chronicles are apparently both attributes common to Alphas, but not other Furyans. Granted, of course, Riddick is probably meaner than usual because of his life in the penal system.

In the next film they explain a little bit about how wrong you are. You arn't TOTALLY wrong, they arn't all heartless badasses but the Necromongers talk about how a single Furyan wiped out hundreds of men each. They are a warrior species above all else.
