Chucky creator Don Mancini revisits every movie in the classic horror series with CraveOnline's William Bibbiani, starting with 1988's Child's Play.
With the 25th anniversary of Child's Play upon us, and the release of the sixth film of the franchise in a big Chucky: The Complete Collection Blu-ray box set, we thought it was the perfect time to sit Don Mancini down for a series of exclusive, extended interviews about each film in the franchise, and answer all our biggest questions about Chucky. We're calling it The Chucky Files.
Join The B-Movies Podcast host William "Bibbs" Bibbiani as he interrogates Don Mancini about every film in the Child's Play series, from Child's Play to Curse of Chucky, in our six-episode mini-series.

ENOproductions1 Wrong. Tom Holland directed AND created the first movie. Tom Holland is the one who wrote the script. He drasticaly rewrote the story from what Mancini originally had. Holland created the character of Charles Lee Ray/Chucky, made him a voodoo practitioner, and brought Brad Dourif on to voice Chucky. All Mancini did was present a story that wasn't even used that had the concept of a killer doll. But the doll in Mancini's story wasn't even a character. It was the manifestion of Andy's subconscious. Andy combines his own blood with the doll and that's what brings it to life. Does that sound anything like the movie we got? No. That's because Tom Holland CREATED the first movie.

+David Wright yes, but as a franchise Chucky is very big in pop culture, not so much of a cult following as say Puppet Master and the like. Chucky is more embedded in the mainstream than it would've been had they went with the original idea, that's what he means. The original story would've made it a standalone "cult classic", and we probably wouldn't have gotten such a big franchise as we did.

Yeah I have and I still stand by that Mancini is just trying to downplay this as much as possible to just ask us to "let it go", his vision wasn't including Eddie so he just allowed himself to just do a "redo" which is crazy. Eddie was very much part of it "IM GONNA GET YOU! IM GONNA GET EDDIE!", and in his Curse flashback Eddie is just nothing, and apparently "She got him killed".. like I said once Chucky TV show started with Devon Sawa being multiple characters same face and Jake is just "oh yeah that tracks" I decided to treat the whole Chucky verse as a "Interdimensional Cable"

I've been hearing Don Mancini tell his original idea of Child's Play for years now (and i'd love to read the script) but he always seems to be backtracking his statements to appear unbiased/unafffected toward the changes, but I can tell he thinks differently. Why can't Don just come out and say "I was pissed that they changed my original conception of the movie even though it and its sequels were big hit, and I still think my idea was better, but had to go along with it because i was new to the business and couldn't do anything about it.." ?

Its clear he hates the voodoo gimmick. I think its the only thing that drags the film down, his blood concept sounded much better. The angry side of Andy in a physical form sounds interesting. I was so scared of chucky when I was a kid too. I remember we went to block buster to rent movies, my parents rented bride of chucky, and just seeing the cover scared the shit out of me. On the way home I was so intrigued yet scared shitless of the vhs cover that I keep trying to get a glimpse of it. When we got home I immediately went to my room and watched cartoons. My parents put the movie on while I was in my room but when I walked out for snacks I saw chucky on the TV, flipped a u-turn and had my younger much braver sister get the snacks. That same night and many months after I slept in her bed with the hallway lights on bc all I can think about was chucky killing me. It wasn’t until high school that I forced myself to watch child’s play and now I’m hooked on chucky.

This interviewer is really annoying. The way he laughs at the original title, probably not even getting the fact that there was a Speilberg related movie with the same name.

heck i saw 1st childs play at the movies and I really thinking back I wasnt a little kid. I mean I was 12 in the 6th grade but still felt scared going to bed that night.....also the people saying chucky is under your bed lol. I guess this could really scare a 6-8 year old.

Xehanort10 Really? I could have sworn it was Caputo because when he drives off, its him saying it because if u look closely at when that quote is said, we don't c mike Norris saying anything, he's just running. it had to b Caputo man

MetalHorrorMusicFilm19 Jack is Mike Norris's partner in the other police car. Mike says "Jack get the van" because he's telling Jack to go after Eddie's van and catch Eddie. Chucky was the only one with Eddie so Eddie had no reason to say Jack. Mike stops and says it to Jack before he starts going after Chucky again.

Yeah I love that idea but the only problem with it is that the voice actors are getting very old and Brad dourif he getting very old and I don't want no one to replaces him at all

Hold awn... now the Blood Buddy but someone in the mass produced factory killed themselves because of the working conditions and put some of their blood in one of the dolls, which Andy got and did blood buddies with>>>> (i know it sounds similar to the reboot without coding techy stuff)
