Just saw The Church tonight at Gramercy Theatre, a mere 42 years since I first saw them as a 14 year old on their first album tour. What a legend these guys are! Steve is in great form at age 68 and they were presenting their 26th album, The Hypnogogue, an instant masterpiece. But they brought down the house playing Tantalized as their next to last song. 10-minute 3-guitar aggression- absolute trance-like experience. Check their tour dates and go see them - incredible show !

Love watching Marty play -- he radiates such sheer joy.

I had such a crush on him as a teenage gal in the early 80s. Still love watching him play decades later. I met him once after a show, what a lovely, intelligent & funny man he is.

I saw The Church live around the Sometime Anywhere tour. I was a teenager at that time and I had found Priest=Aura a couple of years earlier and fell in love with it and inspired by that went through their back catalogue. It was a small venue and I was right next to the stage (incidentally, where I later performed as part of a band during my university years) just staring star struck and enjoying the music. Between the main set and the encore I asked Marty and Steve to sign my copy of the Sometime Anywhere CD (still got it). Steve seemed rather irritated and stand-offish (not blaming him at all about that, he was entitled to feel exactly as he did.. but I put on my best puppy eyes and called him Mr Kilbey, so he seemed to soften a bit and signed my CD in the end), while Marty was incredibly friendly and energetic. At the end of the encore Marty just wailed his guitar and then passed it on to me as they walked off the stage. I wish I had learned any song by them at that time, but now I was just stood there with a stupid grin on my face -- which was rapidly getting red -- as I gingerly put the guitar on the stage. That moment was one of the defining moments of my teenage years.

The boys ripped it up - the Orchestra didn't know WTF was going on - but just hung on. Brilliant 8.38mins. Awesome Lyrics & music. SK was pumped this night - prob because his mum was in the audience! - see the acceptance speech! Playing a few gigs around - can't wait.

The perfect song for this moment of hall of fame induction. This looks like a huge release for Steve (and probably the rest of the band) with what the band went through to get them to this point. Some of the people in this audience would have been involved in the "seductive logic"; "hired, fired yet never inspired" etc. Still get those shivers up the spine listening to this.

The genius of this band is their relaxed interpretations of each song (humble opinion). They never play it quite the same way. They jam! Kilbey is a true musician. They all are. They never compromised.

Just..... Wow. All of it. The build-up, the improv across the board, the tension of the music and the pure amount of fun these guys are having doing this is simply amazing. Well-done. Standing ovation, well-done.

Had tickets to see the 2011 tour in Chicago, but the snow was so deep from Dallas I couldn't get there. I have no idea how they got there, but I'm glad they did because the bootleg sounds great. Wish they would release a well-produced DVD of that tour.

@AitkenBogen No way dude, Steve still sounds great. He's a little exhausted maybe and caught up in the moment, but it's all pure. Saw them play 3 full albums in a row live earlier in this year and Steve's voice was dead on. In fact, you can hear him now better than ever over the music.
