Steve McQueen is “The Cincinnati Kid” and stars next to other great personalities, such as Karl Malden, Cab Calloway and Edward G. Robinson, who are all focused in a thrilling game of either: winning- or losing everything. The music was provided by Hollywood’s jazz legend Lalo Schifrin, whose “Mission Impossible” fingerprints shine through the Cincinnati Kid score. He composed a great main title, that sung by Ray Charles, became a legendary recording. Due copyright reasons it won’t be featured here, but give it a listen on KZbin or elsewhere. The score, besides the main theme, contains also tender moments and a great “Cockfight” sequence. This program was selected from Film Score Monthly’s 5-Disc set “Lalo Schifrin Film Scores Vol. 1 (1964 - 1968)”, featuring not only great soundtracks by the composer, but those in their album- and (for the first time) in their film versions. Thanks to them we now can enjoy Schifrin’s appreciated work as heard in the movie, conducted by Robert Armbruster. To give you a feel of completion, I included a round arrangement of the main theme at the end, which was dropped from the movie (or rather replaced by the Ray Charles track, if you ask me). Enjoy!

I had the film on VHS in the 80's and Istill have the paperback book. In the film, Tuesday Weld is dreamy.

That opening riff is exactly Mission impossible isn’t it… But anyway, I still prefer his Medical Center theme. That’s absolutely number one…. After MS Hawaii Five-0, I mean, of course.😂

Hi Fred.
